This song is the only reason I exist; my mom is from Japan was OBSESSED with this band and this was her favorite song. She really wanted to know whay they were singing about, which motivated her to take studying English in school seriously. She was a translator for the Ringling Brothers while they toured in Japan, and eventually moved to America where she met my dad and I was born.

What about Maggie Bell with Stone the Crows, let's not forget Ian Anderson who formed Jethro Tull a proud Scotsman, and finally and most important of all, Alex Harvey of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. That would be because it's so incredibly difficult to drum and sing at the same time that very few drummers are even singers, much less sing lead. He is incredibly talented to be able to varry this off.
@crystalp7242 Жыл бұрын
Spoiler alert: He’s not the band’s regular drummer. That actually was lead singer Les McKeowan, and he was lip-syncing in this video (which was a very common practice for shows like this up through at least the 1980s). The actual drummer at the time was Derek Longmuir, who for some reason or another wasn’t present for the taping and they had Les sit in on drums. It’s not a Milli Vanilli thing, though, as Les was lip syncing to his own vocals. If you want to watch actual singing drummers in action, check out “Up on Cripple Creek” or “The Weight” by The Band (all of the members could sing, but drummer Levon Helm was one of two with the most prominent lead vocals), or live performances of “Hotel California” by the Eagles, or live performances from Genesis (their drummer Phil Collins took over as lead singer after Peter Gabriel’s departure, although Phil no longer drums these days due to various health issues).
