Delayed drifting (if it’s anything like MKWii) works because your mini turbo doesn’t start charging until after you land from the hop, so more of the turn is used to charge the mini turbo. As for the glider thing, I don’t know this for sure, but it’s possible it has something to do with vectoring, which is used in a number of speed runs such as Mario odyssey and the original doom games. Basically the game stores forward speed and sideways speed as separate values, and because there is a cap on these values rather than overall speed, moving diagonally allows you to move slightly faster than you otherwise would. Think of it like a square, with one edge being forward speed and one edge being sideways speed. The line from the centre to the diagonal corner is longer than the line from the centre to the middle of an edge. It’s possible that the reason this only works with gliders is because I they offer 3D movement, hence pulling backwards and left/right.
@Bayesic3 жыл бұрын
Very interesting information, I had kind of a rough guess about the delayed drifting, but I legit had no idea about why the glider strategies work. Thanks for explaining all of that!

@@Bayesic For motion glider I know you press the stick back and to the right or left, but what about the controller angle itself? Is it sufficient just to tilt the controller to the left or right or should the top corner of the controller come up as well to sort of create the same angle as the stick? I ask because I actually play with motion controls by default lol.
@noah43712 жыл бұрын
@@WhiteLightnin38 The controller’s motion sensor is more precise than you think, so that means the top of the controller should come to play as well, and generally you want to make the angle of your controller at 45 degrees to left/right. What I like to do is to put my stick fully back, maybe slightly left or right as well, and I make the tilt control do the turning. This really helps me in the Mario Kart Stadium’s most optimal way to do the 150cc Nisc.

I only very recently found out about brake drifting, and only because I couldn't make turns in 200cc and had to figure out how. It's pretty tricky to learn to use at all for me since My brain is already nearly 100% occupied as is, and a fair bit more so to use competently, much less well. Slip drifting I learned accidentally and has served me very well. It's one of the best ways I've learned to be good at 150cc and make several of those tighter post-jump turns.

Great video to become an advanced MK player! The only thing that is not correct in this video is that motion glider is also an essential skill to have to compete with top players on online racing, and it is not only for a speed run. I have seen quite a lot of players quickly switching on and off the motion sensor before and after the final corners of, for example, Mario Kart Stadium and Dolphin Shoals. When it is crowded around that corner, it is possible to move up in the final place by 3~4. But of course, this technique shouldn't be the first one to learn before mastering the others.

Thanks for the video, I've got three questions, perhaps they're related... 1) the standard ghost that you play against in Hyrule Circuit jumps over the fountain just before exiting the castle and yet there's no ramp and it's impossible to clear on a standard jump, so how? 2) Also during Hyrule Circuit, I watched the top ghost and after they exit the castle but before the snake trail, they make a monstrous jump without the mushroom between the castle and the first tree over the grass, how? And 3) The standard ghost during the SNES Rainbow Road uses somehow the mini jump between the two thwomps just before the last corner but it doesn't appear as if they're helped by wavy road, and I always fall short of clearing it even with a mushroom, so again, how? It's almost like there's some secret big jump pro tip which causes you to get a lot of air and I can't find any information about it online.
@Bayesic Жыл бұрын
I’d have to watch the rainbow road ghost since I’m not really sure what you’re talking about, but for Hyrule circuit, if you hit the three spin boosters before the fountain, it opens up a booster ramp that you can take. It’s actually slower to do that though because you have to take a bad line to hit those spin boosters For the jump before that snake turn at the end of Hyrule circuit, just search through my videos for “Hyrule“ and you should see a couple of videos that explain how the shortcut works.
