Ok,wow, so I now have a lot of rebuttals to this that I never had before. Just call it looking out for a gem of a game that virtually no one knows about. So first off, the reason why her legs are so long is actually for the gameplay. Kicks are a very common thing in the game, and so if her legs were short that means the hitbox would have to be short, and by then everything would play much more poorly. Secondly, the PS3 version of Bayonetta is utter shit(or so I hear). It's a high-intensity hack n' slash game and the PS3 version not only doesn't play at 60fps, but rather plays UNDER 30fps at some moments. I played it on 360, and not only is it 60fps, but loading isn't really a problem. The story is, as you may have figured from Yahtzee's review, is very unique and can be a little too much for some people. Luckily, you can skip most cutscenes(with the exception of the shitty QTEs, which are in cutscenes) so that you can get back into the action quickly. The game has an AMAZINGLY well-made combat system, putting it up there with DMC4. Tons of different combos, different weapons, different outfits(yes you can unlock outfits for bayonetta). I recommend it to anyone who's interested in the hack n' slash genre.
@RobertAniFreak10 жыл бұрын
To be fair yes, this game is a bit sexualized but shes a 300y old witch, can transform, has 4 guns, very strong, can transform her hair into gigantic monsters, and pretty much control time by slowing it down Arguably she might be more powerful then Dante (( original one, not Dante may Cry )), she does not put herself low to backstabbing or going in bed with anyone to get her job don And most of all she is not a helpess, nagging, little dumbass that keeps getting into trouble and you have to save her *cough* *cough* Peach *cough* Ashley Graham

So in other words, she is every 2000's female Hollywood asskicker. Outstanding; and here I thought game characters were beginning to become creative!
@Slider120710 жыл бұрын
One3673241 The problem is that game developers appear to have difficulty making complex female characters; they're often either empty shells that are only present for the purposes of eye candy or one-dimensional "badasses", such as Bayonetta. The former is done for the sake of exploitation, the latter is a ham-fisted attempt to over-compensate for the exploitation and claim, "No, seriously, she's a strong female character!" I really don't understand why some developers have trouble making female characters that are human. It's no different than male characters, really; if you have a guy that's a "pure badass" with no flaws or emotions outside of self-assurance and aggression, you have a flat, boring character. There needs to be more characters like Aya Brea and Heather Mason; people that do awesome, kick ass things but have humanity and depth to them. They're not defined solely by their combat abilities.
@Azraelseraphim10 жыл бұрын
Slider1207 Well since I bought The Eyes of Bayonetta I just want to let you know there was a lot of shit that was dropped because there was no time. For example Jeanne was supposed to be a high school teacher. The characters were meant to have a life outside of the main story. Also the sexualization of Bayonetta does have a purpose. The angels are based off of Christianity. In the Bible (i.e. Deuteronomy and Timothy) tells women to be submissive and do as they're told. In the end Bayonetta kills Baldr (Patriarchy) and rejects her destiny to give birth to god (Feminist revolution against Patriarchy. Women are not incubators yadda yadda yadda...). You see ladies Bayonetta killed God for you. You're welcome...

I usually dig ZP reviews, but...I actually played Bayonetta. And honestly, the only part of the review I agreed with was the overt sexualization (which seemed to constitute about 73% of the tirade). I'll admit, it kicked my ass for the first few levels, but I fell in love with the combat system within the first 5 minutes of playing it. In fact, the game actually lets you fiddle around with blending basic combo strings and cancelling said combo strings during the tutorial level, allowing you to actually recreate many of the same feats seen in the cutscenes. -__-

I find it hilarious, that Bayonetta actually turns off so many guys, yet call it hypersexualized. She's a hypersexual character. Just not for you, but herself. She's one of the best examples of a female character in a sex-positive light in video games. Everyone in the gameworld respects her power and identity. They talk to her and treat her as equals. Not ONE person in the game talks about her appearance. You'd think a game that was meant to be tittilating to people would be more adequately fetishized for its audience, but that was never the point. That discomfort you feel isn't the sexualization, it's the nature of seeing a female character with the confidence to not be ashamed of her sexual identity, how shameful.
@ElectronNDubstep10 жыл бұрын
I swear to god both of you had a point and then I read the second part of your comments. First of all: Women are not greedy money-mongering bitches like you said..well okay the majority isn't. On the other hand..who doesn't like money? Please grow up and surround yourself with women are not mentaly FUBAR. Second: It's not the fact that the main character is very sexual and confident with it,that disgusts (me). Heck that's what makes her sexy! It's the fact that the game is shoving it in your face like "Hurrr Durr Sex sells! Here you like dis! Like dis1!". Do men love sexy characters? Hell yeah! Do you want to be burried in Titties and asses all the time while playing a game? Not all the time. It's just simply too much. And for real honey..most men are not really afraid of strong women it's actually quite the opposite ...I thought you would know that.
@Krystalmyth10 жыл бұрын
Why because you say so? This is hardly resembling anything close to the truth, but there really is the an argument being shared here so this whole thing is pointless. Fact of the matter is Bayonetta is not 'butt fugly' but is no surprise called that way by men like you looking for the cheesecake you so crave.
@AlexandreBatalha_Sharkuel10 жыл бұрын
***** i like how you question Grayfox's comente by replying "Why because you say so?" and then make a statement that goes in the lines of "No, it is because i say so, and i am bitchy about it." Bayonetta is ridiculous. Simply. Not pretty, not sexy, not a feminine icon, she is just ludacrious. It is like they strapped Dante with a hair dress and huge legs and ass. But i agree with you, this is pointless. Of course there are men (and specially women) who will worship her, and then there are people like me who simply doesn't get affected over the "oversexualized" theme that Bayonetta represents. it is just too ridiculous and in my modest opinion (note it is na opinion, even if you don't care), i find for example Miranda Keyes (Halo 2 and Halo 3) a far more stronger female character than most of the current days "strong female characters" (i am looking at you, Lara Croft), so there. I think Bayonetta just gives a slutty persona to women in general. But who am i to jugde? lol
@Akilroth23410 жыл бұрын

If by "male gaze" you mean something designed to appeal to hetero dudes, then yes, Bayonetta's appearance was clearly designed with that audience in mind. Montesama314 its slightly harder then hard dificulty, but they also take away your perfect dodge slomo attack, which is basically your only defense against enemies such as grace and glory.

While I don't think this game was horrible I do agree with Yahtzee about a few things. It's got a good story, and a nicely-woven complex story is always nice, but he makes a good point. Given the type of game this is, the selling point is meant to be the ridiculous spectacle and epic scale of the game. If you have to focus on that but there's a complex story behind it all, a lot of players could very easily get lost in it. It's not necessarily hard to understand, it's just that putting something so complex towards the back of the shelf really takes away from it and makes it easy to miss things. I also felt that the controls were a bit clunky. Sure they worked well for the game and with some practice you could kick some serious ass, but it was a hard scheme to get used to and the reliability of each command's responsiveness wasn't all that great. I don't need to say anything about the sexualization. Yahtzee pretty much hit the nail on the head, there.

Fully agreed. I also like Fly Me to the Moon (Bayo remix) and Mysterious Destiny. And now I have Bayonetta 2 demo (waiting for the game to arrive, and bought Wii U just for her, hehe) and I already love her new design and can't stop listening to Tomorrow is Mine.

Don't know why people always complain about Bayonetta being hot or sexualized, and its kind of stupid that people say its 'shameless'. Its a character who's hot, lets just stop being crusty prodestant fucks and enjoy something that happens to be sexual to some people its not going to kill you.

I'm not sorry to say I've beaten this game many times. XD I used to suck balls at it, and I still suck balls at it, but somewhere in the intervening years I went from hitting the buttons randomly to hitting buttons randomly with good results. Don't be fooled by the silly wrapping, *this game is hard*.

For anyone who thinks its weird for a witch to be sexy, witches actually used to represent temptation, unrestrained sexuality, and lust, so Bayonetta is actually pretty well characterized.

This is why I hate "stylish" hack and slash games from Japan. They try so hard to combine style and substance but at the end of the day, you can't tell which is more asinine, the "style" or the "substance."

***** Jealous of what? You do realize that Bayonetta is a fictional character, so she doesn't excist in real life. Even if she did, Regene McTornth is mentioning that she would destroy you, so he wouldn't want to sleep with her himself, since she would most likely destroy him as well. Unless he's just insulting you, but I'm fairly optimistic, so I'm going to say that he's not insulting you.

A immature overly sexualized game with a over zealous speedy pace giving you no time to learn the combat mechanics and a convoluted story with dmc concepts that pulls you in 20 directions at once meaning it lacks consistency and repeated boss fights makes ninja gaiden look like a fuckin work of art (speaking sarcastically)
@SOV72410 жыл бұрын
And don't forget those fucked up unwanted qte scenarios that pop up randomly during intense boss fights giving up less than a second to react and losing in a qte scenario could almost kill you instantly..... this game is sooooo overrated

I find it odd that yahtzee didn't talk about how cruelly unforgiving this game is. DMC never penalized badly for using items and of course damage didn't matter. In this game everything penalizes you to the point of miserable frustration. I guess he just didn't care about the scores and just kept going.
@JHaru77710 жыл бұрын
I think Yahtzee honestly doesn't hate Bayonetta, he's never been a fan of the JRPGs and Japan has it's own branch of video games that are distinct at times. I personally did find enjoyment in Bayonetta but I do agree with some of the things he said about it. Either way it all just comes down to personal preference and such, so a good review on Bayonetta I believe.
@Scrillls10 жыл бұрын
I love this game because the combat is deep and stylish, I like how your enemy's are angels, shape shifting, a parry mechanic that is very useful on a harder difficulty when some enemy's can use "witch time" along side you, the boss' are huge and creative, I have a glasses fetish, "Fly me to the moon" plays during the game which makes me happy and nostalgic, different weapon combinations (like skating around with rocket launchers strapped to your arms for example), Bayonettas dancing and finally I played it on my Xbox360 and the load times were fine for me.
@roboguy756 жыл бұрын
I played this game on PC which btw thank god the load times are nonexistant but yeah some of it was hard to dodge and more often than not I kept getting the stupid stone trophies, especially since using items can count as a death for some bizarre reason. I really enjoyed the game and thought most of the characters were pretty good and memorable and the music and fights were awesome but other parts just made me groan and almost bang my head against a wall. Since the sequel is coming out on the Switch I'm just hoping it's a bit better.

But there were a lot of God of War ripoffs out there. They didnt even try to change the formula. Not saying Bayonneta was a GoW rippoff, and i'm really done with the argument that GoW is a rippoff of DMC just because DMC came out first. excuse my english.
