Valentino Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2018-2019

WHAT A THRILLING BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION! There were no "filler" designs shown to bulk up and extend the show. Every piece mattered. Every gown counted as its own beautiful work of art. There has been a debate, in certain circles, as to how much Maria Grazia contributed to the success of Valentino during her 12 years of collaboration with Pierpaolo but now the debate is over. Clearly, he was the talented one of the two. He carried her all these years and now we know. And to have the glorious voice of the late great Maria Callas, soaring above the clouds was just icing on the cake. This is what haute couture is about. It's not about being practical to the point of being pointless, a la Maria Grazia at Dior. It's about giving flight to our dreams and aspirations, to give us, whether or not we can afford the clothes, a few precious moments of joy in an increasingly dark world.

There are so many things in this show that I love, from the gorgeous voluminous hair and then the contrast of the beautiful black models with there shaved heads and there was a lot of clothes that looked like they were straight out of the 70's which to me was the best fashion era ever. Thank you Pierpaolo for your exquisite vision!!!

Pierpaolo has breathed life back into a house that was first and foremost about 'beauty'. But, not just any kind of beauty, what Monsieur Valentino Garavani did was created a brand that brought a smile to the viewers and wearers of his clothes. He celebrated ruffles, frills, bows and lace when many were welcoming the era of latex and ultra-minis, but he did it without any apologies or fuss. There was femininity at its finest and all its sensual glory. Pierpaolo seems to have metamorphosed into the very same man, albeit with a more contemporary approach to execution. The silhouettes and colour tones are what couture should and always be about; a sense of fantasy and magic. I do believe I would have cried, if I saw the clothes in person to this music. Incomparably breath-taking and worthy of a MET exhibition. I'm so glad he had the ability to helm the brand. Now the next question is, what is anyone going to do about Maria Grazia?!

I loved the gorgeous colors of each piece. The music was able to compliment the show in much a way that you felt as though you were being touched by Angeles' wings. Bravo 👏 !!! 👼💜😇
