I've been watching a few videos on this particular repair on multiple different models and years. But I think this is one of the newest years I've seen and it's the absolute worst position for that outer DRL LED controller. On my 2016 x1 mSport all for are easy to see and work with, right on top at the rear of the headlight assembly. But I just had to say. Kudos. And the dremel polish bit was the best fix I'd seen. Usually it ends up being too charred to save. At first I thought you had an electric toothbrush and ultra whitening toothpaste and I was thinking wow, that could actually work. Lol But I'm replacing both sides in my x1 this weekend and I'm hoping I don't have to do much with the tube.

Just come across your channel. Great vids and camera work. Just over a year ago my fiesta had same problem with drl. The circuit board has heat sink paste between it an the alloy mounting which had dried out and cracked causing the unit to get too hot and burn the light tube. I reassembled with new heat sink paste and trimmed & polished the end of the light tube and bingo. Should think thks will be a common problem with all these type of lights. Keep up the good work.

I remember my first car back in the 80’s where there was almost enough room in the engine bay to step in and work on the engine. Crazy how you have to spend ages stripping a car down just to change a small module.

I swear BMW designers all sit around the computer and challenge each other on how many steps they can add to a process that use to be "flip, pop, close, done". Pretty much all German vehicles now.
@jimduk6 ай бұрын
Germans! they over complicate everything whether it be mechanical engineers or software/electronics. the master engineers in my view ? Japanese - the refine until it works and keep things simple.

I have the same problem and the bmw repair shop offered me today 75 thousand turkish lira (about 1700 gbp today’s rate). I can't buy modules because our leaders have limited the price of orders from outside the country, so it means I can only order products up to 30 euros with shipping. They send a mail want a discount to the BMW center (Germany) under the goodwill guarantee because all repairs of my vehicles, oil changes, etc. were made by the BMW service. I am waiting for news about what percentage the discount will be, this country has really tired me.

I had this with my f34 that has the angel eyes, my issue was everytime i plugged a new drl module the led chips would instantly explode - 3 modules later and a new headlight the bill was just shy of £4500 (warranty covered luckily) the issue i have now is the other set as they are a few years older look abit off in terms of brightness 😢 now that im out of warranty im leaving it alone !
@simoneoccoffer95582 ай бұрын

LEDs should last (pretty much) for ever ASSUMING the current/voltage circuit is designed correctly AND a suitable heatsink is designed into the device. Coincidently only yesterday my 81 year father was complaining about his 1 year 2 month old Ford Kuga indicator (LED) bulb(S) had failed!! I looked closely at the LED circuit and general build and as an experienced electronics engineer I can conclude they are junk! and looking at the scorch marks on your example BMW PCB - again junk! the manufactures are pouring out complex junk at the moment! Give me a simple old fashioned Halogen/incandescent bulbs, yup current draw is a lot higher versus LED, but simple and cheap!

Thanks, useful video. Hoping to do the same on my F48. One suggestion - add timestamps to the main parts (you literally just type the mm:ss in the video description). Otherwise edit out the stuff we really don't need watch. That bit about the the wrong part being delivered can be covered in 1 sentence, instead of adding on precious seconds to the video. +baz meredith
