Not sure if BMW are the same but from my time with Toyota, if we didn’t have a sensor in stock or customer didn’t want to pay for a new one, if you deflate the tyre completely and pump it back up, it can ‘wake’ the sensor up again, it’s only a temporary fix but definitely helpful for people going for their annual inspection 😁

If the other 3 sensors date from 2016 ? they will soon follow the faulty one , perhaps in this case the BMW dealer was looking long term ?

Might save money for the customer short term but when the other sensors fail, the customer will have to pay again to get a new sensor and pay for them to get fitted again...

dealers dont do diagnostics as such, if computer shows a error fire the parts cannon!, its sickening with the cost of modern sensors!
@Thatpropertylife4 ай бұрын
Did BMW misdiagnose it or did they figure ones broke so the rest will inevitably break, change them out now so the customer doesn't come back with the same fault?
@robertwillis40613 ай бұрын
Quite possibly. Or standard Dealership up sell. Company car I had in 2019, was in for service, told needs 4 new tyres. I knew it didn't. All 4 tyres were 3 - 4mm. Garage claimed that as the next service was 10k miles away, the car would need 4 tyres before then. Told them fine I will replace in 1 - 2 months time. Went elsewhere for better tyres, cheaper. Didn't like the O.E. tyres in the wet.

I think that Launch TPMS sensor comes with a plastic washer... but I found a LOT don't... even genuine items. Then the aluminium / steel bolt corrodes onto the wheel... after it gouged up the factory paint... because there is no washer 🙄🙄

“They tend to corrode and take the wheel with them” - I’m not 100% sure these are a net positive. I get that most drivers don’t check tyres and will drive under inflated until their next MOT but… that’s a driver fault. Bit unfair to condemn someone’s expensive alloy just to flash a message they might choose to still ignore. I’m usually pretty pro-technology but on the fence here.
