Nicely done Baz . Our family have had Vauxhalls since 1986 and the only trouble we ever had was the valve stem oil seals hardening, so we changed them , quite straightforward and the new ones were better material than the old ones. But what I wouldn't buy now is ANY car with a wet belt or the timing gear at the back of the engine and your video shows why . Well done again 👏 😊

Excellent video as usual Baz. Yes, please do a behind the scenes video because i would like to see how you appear to use 'the force' to spin the camera around etc. I have tried for many (too many) years to use the force, but to no avail lol. Keep up the good work 👍

Great work there Bazza. My wife's Mokka is the same engine. They are cheap quality compared to older Vauxhalls and that's coming from someone who spent 9 years at a dealership. Water pump, head gasket, expansion tank, various coolant hoses, crack in inlet manifold, talk about Triggers broom. Last issue was PCV valve internal to inlet manifold gone, £1000 for new manifold! Got a kit from USA instead which adds the PCV stuff externally and actually replaces that plastic pipe you replaced at the end as they are common to break. Be careful as there's a 1 way valve at the turbo end. Certainly not Vauxhalls finest hour but at least you do have access round it.

I did a video making my own kit on the pcv valve took some figuring out but wish I knew about the kit tho, but I enjoyed doing it so weren't so bad

I’m not a Vauxhall hater, I own one, but these petrol engines that GM used in most of their Vauxhall and Opel vehicles was not the best designed engine. Stretched timing chains are a given if you own one and they don’t like long oil intervals which this one has definitely been subjected to
@gameova59625 ай бұрын
I have the same engine in my GTC - Guides break on every 1.4t eventually as the plastic drys out. But thats not the only issue with these engines..... ☠

I drive 30000 miles a year and have done for 30 years. I have owned many cars in that time driving them upto an average of 150000 miles. My 14 plate Astra J was S**t. Not least because the doors would fill up with rain water and slosh about. I removed the rubber bungs at the bottom of the door in the end 😂

You probably know this this, but….. you can take the timing cover off these without removing the water pump, only 5 of the bolts go through both, saves a water pump gasket if the pumps good, replaced recently etc

Totalno sranj. od motora. Opel je zaista, nakon mnogo dobrih godina, upropastio sve sa nizom loših agregata. Propast auto industrije u potpunosti. Uzgred, odličan posao brate... pozdrav iz Srbije...❤❤❤

That hose you replaced with coolant hose, doesn't the manufacturer one have a 1 way valve built into it as part of the pcv system? The other classic is the one way check valve built into the inlet manifold normally disappears into the engine in about 5000 miles ?
@bazmeredith5 ай бұрын
There's a check valve on the connector, all I did was cut the plastic pipe off the connectors and reused them with new pipe

Just bought a 2019 Astra 1.0 eco petrol estate (w/turbo😂) 65K miles for £7K, sounded OK at dealer/test drive.....watched this first so must be mad. Assume its a engine out/similar setup? Asked the dealer for an oil/filter change before buying. Im in Cardiff so first sign of trouble im coming to you for a doctor's diagnosis 😊

Did you take the sump off to just clean it out or can you do them without the sump off pal
@bazmeredith5 ай бұрын
It's best to take the sump off as the timing cover is on dowels and can be tricky to get back on with the sump off, and always best to remove to clean
