I read most of the comments here; I can definitely see two sides of the equations. First, we always have high expectations of the candidates that they MUST have beauty and brain. Second, when people are put into a situation that caught off guard or pressured the results can be totally unexpected. It can be a triumph or can be humiliating (humorous) like this. Let's just hope that she'll do way better when she compete internationally and hopefully we'll have another Filipino title holder.

Unfortunately, I really don't agree with the judges. I am currently based in the US and discovered this accidentally when a group of my american co-workers were laughing their heads off & couldn't believe that she is going to represent the cream of the crop from our country! It is quite embarrassing really. Leaving for the US 15 yrs ago at the age of 23 because of family issues, I am well aware that we have much better representatives for our country than her. We can definitely chose better!

More on the issue: The whole world now knows how the Philippines "judges." Even on US radio, we are "the laughing stock." It is one thing when you have a 17 y/o making a fool of herself: it is another when a supposedly knowledgeable & distinguished panel of judges handpicks her to win & represent us! This committee really needs to revamp & re-think this. Even a couple of our friends here are beginning to deny they are Filipinos because of this embarrassing impact on us all over the world.
