Every genuine real hooper know how important Scottie was to Jordan and the Bulls. No Pip, no rings. It always starts with defense and to be a 2 way playmaking forward in the league is very tough, not to mention to be one of the best defenders in the league. Stats do play a part in how we view how great a player but I've always looked at the intangibles on why that makes the player great that never gets mentioned. Coach Nick mentioned about Scotties cutting within the game, like that's a skill, but small details like that is what can determine a bucket or not. I'm sure he is a not only a great on-ball defender but a team defender, defensive positioning and timing, active hands, communicating and calling out switches, being a leader, and being a straight dog on the court. You start to realize that not everyone does this or only does some things well. I think the docuseries portrayed him fine, that whole first episode was dedicated to him. There's so many different factors that play into winning. We all knew it was the documentary was going to surround MJ anyways, its the GOAT we talking about here. We don't ever hear him talk. Pippen is very underrated and very important to winning. General fans will shrug him off just simply looking at his stats.

Love this video! Scottie has long been one of my all-time favorite players (and I picked his jersey number as my own). This is precisely why - he did everything really well, but not for himself. He played team basketball at the expense of his own stats, making the right plays and putting in the raw effort to win. He gets undervalued due to his stats not being as great as they could be, but the Bulls would not have won as much with a statistically better #2 player replacing Pippen. All time great that deserves more respect than he gets.
@TheUltimateRage4 жыл бұрын
Facts! Not to make this about LeBron, but it's one of the reasons why we value Mike as THE GOAT and not LeBron, the fact that it's not all just about stats! Don't get me wrong, stats are definitely a big factor when we talk about greatness, but let's take someone like Robert Horry. He never put up great stats, never was an allstar, never was a scoring machine or defensive juggernaut, but he had intangibles like being arguably the most clutch role player of all time. WINNING should be the ultimate factor in determining greatness, which is why this whole IT vs Stockton on the Dream Team debacle has been ongoing. IT may not have had the most amazing stats in the world (Stockton holds all time record in assists and I think one of the most durable players ever), but IT won 2 chips and FMVP to Stockton's ZERO.

@@TheUltimateRage that just it though, the narrative of Pippen not being a clutch player is false. Pippen throughout his career made clutch shots, not just defensive as the media push on the masses. The great wing defenders includes MJ, Payton, Kawhi, Paul George, Kobe, Artest, Michael Cooper, Robertson, Mo Cheeks, Derek Harper, Moncrief, Dumars, DJ Johnson, Baylocks, Bowen, Beverly, Tony Allen, Jimmy Butler and Igoudala. Pippen could do everything the guys above did above. That how good he was on D and here the many reasons why. - Physicality - Pippen was very physical, Artest is stronger but Pippen bodied the likes of Barkley, Magic, and Malone. - Motor and Energy - Pippen was a constant pest on D. He dove for loose balls and got charges from weak side. He was constantly chasing the ball. Some guys above guarded the man with the ball. Pippen did that around the court. He got from one the opposite side 3 pt line to contest shots. - Size. Pippen Kawhi has the same wingspan. That is freaky long arms because Kawhi has big hands anad wide shoudlers. - Athleticism. Only MJ and Kobe match Pippen. Pip could jump, was explosive, had underrated speed, and agility. Compared to Kawhi, Kawhi doesn't jump as high, is as quick or explosive. - Hands. All the guys above have good hands or a special steal technique like Kawhi, Payton, Igoudala, MJ, Robertson. Pippen didn't have one type of steal, he did them all. He had the poke at entry pass, pass deflects, lane jumps, ball handler pokes, layup strips, and jump shot strips. - IQ. This separates Pip from other guys because some shutdown guys just worry about their man.They aren't focused on Team D. Pippen was the shot caller just like Draymond. If you play basketball, you know who that guy is. Pippen knew all the player and team tendencies and how to help on D. - The eraser. This is LBJ block, the guy that takes the charge, the guy that helps from weak side D, and takes a away a sure fire bucket from the other team.

What MJ did that season is more impressive than what Pippen did in '94.
@santosonly74 жыл бұрын
I’ve been saying this since the Last Dance. When Mike is telling you how Scottie played an EXISTENTIAL role in his success, LISTEN TO HIM! For without Scottie, there would be NO 6 rings. To prove how successful Mike was not without Scottie, just look at 3 key periods of MJs career: 1. Before Scottie, when Scottie was a Bull but was not playing due to injury/contractual disputes, and after separating from Scottie. You will see 1 common theme: Mike either wasn’t making the playoffs, getting bounced early from the playoffs, NEVER won a conference final and NEVER won a ring. This may explain why a prime Jordan never signed with ANYONE else but with Scottie even though he signed a bunch of 1 year contracts. And no wonder, MJ couldn’t go deep without Scottie. So really, Scottie is EQUALLY as important. Checks this: Scottie, without MJ, was able to take the Bulls just as far in the post season as MJ without Scottie. Said another way, MJ, without Scottie, was UNABLE to take the Bulls any farther than Scottie was able to take them without MJ. This has to be considered when speaking about the GOAT. Should the GOAT be one who was successful only under a very limited set of circumstances while proving not to be as successful while not playing under those circumstances and REFUSED to even challenge himself to win a ring outside of those circumstances.? Wouldn’t a better candidate be a player who isn’t similarly depended on any one player to win a ring and who is willing to take the risk to prove it is more about HIM than them? Wouldn’t that player edge Jordan? So ask yourself who is the only other player in the GOAT discussion that fits that description? It’s the guy that left a champion team to play for the 2nd worse team in the NBA (who had never won a ring) and beats the NBA’s winningest (and arguably the greatest) team of all time though being down 3/? Long live the King!!!
@actionjacksonfive87753 жыл бұрын
LMAO Jordan only played two seasons as Bull without Pippen, Pippen was riding the bench when he joined the Bulls, wasn't a top 5 player on the team. The Bulls had the best record in the East when Pippen was injured in 97-98. The Wizard were a 19 win team & were on a 50 win pace until Jordan tore his meniscus. LeBron left the aging Wade & Bosh to join young fresh stars in Kyrie & Love, that's not a challenge, that's an upgrade.

You never saw or hear mj said something negative of Scottie. That Scottie didn't come out of that time out, yes. That MJ told Scottie sign that bad contract no. That Scottie not taking care off his surgery before the season started was selfish of him yes. That MJ fought for scottie with management all the time yes. When scottie arrived he was the superstar that he became no. People forgot to mention episode 4 minute 24 and on. When phil,horace,and scottie himself. Talk about who MJ help them take there game to the next level. Peiple dont mentioned that right. If MJ never took Scottie under his wiing,he never would of become a top 50 and top 75 player of all time and that a fact.

Not to mention he scores inside the system and he hardly ever holds the ball more then couple sec, so he never takes away from the flow. Alot of superstars cant get another superstar to do what scottie did and had the ability to do. Scottie was so rare, you could net positive 100%, while most other stuperstar duo would never be able to get that from each other and also force offensive stagnation.

As strong as Michael was, he is a paranoic who lived just to get imaginary revenges on his mind, often against people who really didn't do nothing against him. And during all his career and later on, as paranoic as he was and is, he needed to tell his own story about himself, and his professional career; he never, never stand the possibility of someone criticize him. And in large part, he was so good in telling his own story, that even today everyone believe him. He was maybe the best player ever lived, but he convinced everybody that he had never lost; he convinced everybody that, he won the first 3 titles by himself; he convinced everybody that he never missed a clutch. In all his imagination and in the recent videos, all the people who can contradict those stories were his worst enemies: Isiah is clearly number one, being the one who bullied Michael for so many years, and refusing Michael being over him, when in the end, Isiah lost to him. Even Pip became an attempt to his stories... because very few champions had a second guy strong as Pip was, at least from the 80es moving forward.

Scottie had the chance to lead his team whenever MJ left, but he just couldn't do it. He is the most KD-like player in terms of character. KD can be the best player on the team, but he never was the main leader. OKC had Russ, GSW had Steph, Nets have Kyrie. It's as if KD wants to be the best player, but without the pressure of the alpha male. I see some similarities in that aspect to pippen. Pippen was always a top 5/10 player, but he never had that alpha male quality. Also, both were bothered by the media and the way people view him.
