Kobe routinely broke out of the triangle. Phil gave him a lot of leeway from ‘06-11. Granted the Lakers won two titles, but his lack of discipline in the offense costed him once his age began to show. I’m still shocked how disciplined Jordan actually was. The Bulls typically ran through two to three options of the triangle before the Jordan iso kicked in. His time with Dean Smith at UNC had an huge impact of allowing the game come to him, instead of forcing things.

Almost 4 months later I still can't believe Kobe Bryant has passed man. I grew up a Celtics fan and *hated* the Lakers and when they beat Boston in 2010, I was so heated over game 7 that I couldn't speak to anyone about basketball for a month. But it's so somber knowing he's actually gone now. He still had so much to accomplish, and so did Gigi. If I feel this way for someone I never knew personally, I can't imagine what Vanessa and the girls feel from his and Gigi's passing. RIP to them and the 7 others that perished that day.

I truly believe that if Kobe would of went to college and learn to have a better understanding of the game with an experienced coach and play under a system, he would of had a better start to his career. People forget the influence of Dean Smith had on Michael Jordan. Those three years in North Carolina really made MJ's IQ through the roof and was able to find points in better positions instead of constantly trying to make difficult shots. Kobe may have had more skills than MJ, but MJ athleticism and understanding of the game as a rookie really helped him develop into the player he is

He did all the technical things better, as you say. And he had bigger hands, a bit stronger, and I think + 12" on his vert. So you can see why MJ is better. I think that shocks many KB fans, but it isn't that Kobe wasn't great, it was that MJ was greater.

Also the difference of their respective teams. Mj has the luxury of elite playmakers. Fish and gasol were good but nowhere near pippen, kukoc and harper. Kobe sometimes do playmaking duties thats why he has lower fg than mj.
@ZIC26
@ZIC26 3 жыл бұрын
@@BlackOrder007 I agree that Fisher and Gasol probably weren’t as good as Pippen, Kukoč, and Harper were in terms of playmaking, but a big reason why Kobe’s field goal percentage was noticeably lower than Jordan’s was because he took and settled for much tougher shots than Jordan did. Coach Nick broke this difference between the two down beautifully in another Kobe vs Jordan comparison video he did. Jordan made it a point to try to maximize his opportunities on offense as much as possible which meant not taking and/or settling for difficult, low-percentage shots whereas Kobe never really saw a shot he didn’t like. Kobe had a far more liberal attitude in terms of the kinds of shots he took unlike Jordan. Another reason why Kobe’s field-goal percentage was lower than Jordan’s was because he was also notorious for forcing his offense by going 1-on-1 which often broke the flow of the Lakers’ offense as his teammates often found themselves just standing around and watching him go to work. His 1-on-1 plays often ended with him taking some kind of highly difficult, highly contested, off-balanced shot that he often made (and missed). Jordan’s 1-on-1 plays often came within the flow of the Bulls’ offense as he rarely went 1-on-1 without giving the Bulls a chance to run the offense first as Coach Nick stated in this video and the kind of shots he took when he went 1-on-1 were, at times, similar to Kobe’s but overall nowhere near the kind of low-percentage shots that Kobe often took and settled for. This is not to over-glorify Jordan and/or overly criticize Kobe, but it’s these differences between the two that make me give the nod to Jordan over Kobe. Kobe was a great player who absolutely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame and no other player reminded me of Jordan on the court more than he did, but Jordan was better.

Amazing. Kobe did a great job of emulating him. The only major difference you see on these plays is that MJ was a little bit quicker and stronger with higher elevation on his J. His little shimmies would actually completely shake defenders and create tons of space for him to get his shot off with ease, while Kobe's looks more forced and the defenders able to read it better and hence contest them but he'd still stick them which is why he was know to make the most difficult shots. Mjs entire game was more effortless and he took the game as it came to him, while Kobe forced it more.

MJ fits more into the triangle system and lets the game come to him. MJ does fewer dribbles. MJ shoots more efficiently and effectively, partly because he utilizes the system more often and he is always trying to be closer to the rim when launching the 2pts Js.

Michael was slightly bigger and more athletic that’s why Michael used the post more. Kobe was more skilled and crafty. By the late 2000s, 3s are more prevalent and star players had green light to shot those yolo 3s. They had different introductions to the triangle as well. Mj was the better and more efficient scorer. While Kobe had better 3-point range, he would force his game all the time when the game didn’t go his way, thus, taking bad shot selections and missing. Jordan was patient and let the game come to him. He took high percentage shots which reflected in his 50% field goal efficiency. In LA throughout the entire three peat, in the Finals Dhaq was avg 36 and 15 on 70% shooting you’d be an idiot not to run the offense through him. And as for Kobe and Wade if your point is Wade is a better player, the issue of consistency and longevity has to come up Wade was great for maybe 4 years Kobe was great from 02-13 winning four chips and making 6 finals appearances in that stretch. Wade was good from 06-07 then took a hiatus due to injury came back in 09-11 and aged in dog years when LeBron made any serious strides in Miami. Basically look at it this way Tiny Archibald can say He’s the best PG ever because no one has ever led the league in points and ast the same year but that means nothing to the decade magic spent dominating the league

Pippen was not the best defender (even though Jordan murdered him on practice everyday). But one of the characteristic of the 80's/90's is that you've had great defenders...specialized defenders on every single roster. And Jordan still has way better numbers than Kobe. In the 2000's there were great defenders that Kobe had to go through but not to the extent of the 90's defenders. Not in terms of the number of elite defenders, neither in terms of the quality. It's like... Tony Allen is good but he's not Joe Dumars, you know... Some of the defenders that gave Kobe the most problems throughout his career came from the 90's (despite the fact that those guys were passed their prime). Guys like Eddie Jones, Doug Christie, Bruce Bowen, Aaron McKie, Scottie Pippen...and those guys would give Kobe some serious problems sometimes you know... Competition? Jordan was almost never guarded one on one to begin with. He would get double teamed so much that it became a walk in a park to get rid of the double teams for him. Kobe, in comparison to Jordan was not often double teamed and wasn't skilled enough to deal with double teams as easily as Jordan. You can even see a quick example of that in this video. Look at 6:30 and 7:40 and compare that. You want to talk about competition? Look at their playoffs performances. Really unless you're biased, it's really not close and the facts are cold.

@Loc T i disagree about the footwork. When it comes to offensive moves, kobe might have been more creative, like shooting that spin pivot shot after the shot fake in this video, but he took those shots bc he wasnt as good at creating easier shots as mj was. As far as competition, kobe faced more talented individual players, but mj's opponents were better at team basketball. he also had much more help than mike, and it was easier for a perimeter player to score in kobe's era than in michael's.

@@shupactakur8243 You take more shots from where you feel most confident at. Kobe Bryant had more confidence as a 3-point shooter than Michael Jordan, now Chicago Bulls teammate Craig Hodges had more confidence shooting 3-pointers.

@@deandrepage1048 im not saying he wasnt confident shooting the 3, im saying he and mike both shot about the same %, neither of them were particularly great at it.

A comparison of how the rules change from illegal defense to defensive 3 sec made for big differences in how Kobe and mj were guarded would be real interesting, especially with some vintage footage from the first few years of kobes career when illegal defense was still around.
