If that machine has a US phrase ROM for the speech it may respond to an address other than 15 (-1 in the sound command) which was used for the UK/KK phrom. You could try sound -16 to use address 0 which I seem to recall is the US phrase ROM. It maybe worth a try before you buy a new one.

Good shout but unfortunately it is the UK one. I remember that it used to work when I first got hold of the machine.

I wouldn't trust any Rifa caps, even supposedly new ones.

:-) There are alternatives. But I've read the new ones are supposed to be better.
