If Studio N2 was being rebuilt for the new BBC News corporate set for Monday 10th May 1999, we must assume that the BBC News moved out of Studio N2 and into Studio N1 which has a very similar set design for possibly a month before the relaunch, maybe around Easter 1999, to give time for the new set to be built and rehearsals taken place. Am I right Jack?

BBC News very rarely ever commented on any new look. ITV News would, they did during the 2004 relaunch especially. BBC was always understated.

I'm glad that we've got that beeping beat music now for BBC News; this news music sounds so old fashioned and has no personality in it. When I wondered what those beeps were in a promo of the new look BBC News, I liked it at the time when I was little and when I found out that it became the theme for BBC News, I was so glad.🥰

The beebs are terrible in my opinion. The 80s and early 90s music is best. This mid 90s version isn't as good.

Not the case at all. 1.The virtual era came from both N2 (TC11) and N6, it was originally in N2 from April 1993 to August 1998, then once Stage 6 and the BBC News Centre opened on the 2nd of September 1998, the 7 panels and sci-fi looking curved desk were moved down to N6 through the scenery lifts behind TC10/11. TC2 and TC6 were never used as they were owned by TSPR / BBC Resources and meant for TV shows, not by BBC News department for News bulletins. N1 and N2 were also never used during September 98 to May 99 as they were locked up by BBC Resources and were no longer owned by the news department, besides most of the gear in N1/N2 had been removed so no programme could come for N1/N2 until 2000/2001 when they were refurbished and renamed to TC10 and TC11 for CBBC and BBC Choice/Three News. 2. N1 no longer had it's virtual set as World had moved to N9 by then and News 24 was in N8 by 1999. As I said above, N1 and N2 had nothing in them and were collecting dust when this bulletin was broadcast. 3. What actually happened was that both sets (old and new) were in N6 at once, the 2 large panels on the edge of the old set were removed and they were using the 1998 desk which was less curved and was smaller than the 1993 desk in N2. The new set was in it's final position in N6, however was pushed back slightly, the projectors were replaced with green screens so that less space was taken up and the desk was pushed further towards the backdrop so that the camera doing the wide-shot of the old set could move freely (as N6 at this time had limited space as you could imagine).

@@theiMarble I have visited N6 in 2001 and what surprised me how small it was to what I thought it would be. The wide angle lenses made it look much bigger on screen. I am still surprised they managed to squeeze two sets into the one studio in time for the relaunch.
@theiMarble
@theiMarble 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnking5174 Yes. The reason it felt so small was because the 2x ~30,000 lumen DLP projectors took up just over a third of the studio. Apparently BBC bosses who were in charge of assigning studio spaces were not happy with how little space there was in their brand new studio. I remember seeing an image of N6 without anything in it (no sets, camera, light mounts) just before it was demolished and it's near the size of TC2! (not N2/TC11). If current broadcast gear was used there could of been a much larger barco wall and at least another 2 cameras easily. As I said above, removing those stupidly sized projectors made whole lot more room as the wooden set was quite thin.

@@theiMarble When BBC News moved in 1969 to the television centre from Alexandra Palace, it is a shame they didn't create better sized studios. Of course in hindsight, 1969 television news production was a total different era, with shorter news bulletins and less flashy set designs, they felt space was not required right?
