This is all very lovely. But it doesn't always end like this for everyone. I found my bio father through a DNA company. My bio father's side of the family. They want nothing to do with me. They basically want me to get lost. So I'm very happy for this lady but it doesn't always work out for those of us who are in a similar situation.

I'm very sorry to hear that. One hopes that eventually someone on that side comes to his or her senses. It's easy to say, "Why would you want to be accepted by such cold-hearted people?" But that's facile. You're not looking to be accepted by cold-hearted people. You're looking to complete your identity... I'm so sorry that the gap in your life is still there. To have found your family and them not wanting to find you must be such an ache.

It’s a shame that happens to you and many others. I’m still glad it can provide some answers, if one wants to know more than before it’s always a good chance to gain more knowledge. In some of these videos the relatives have passed away and nobody else connected to them reaches out either, it’s really a case to case basis.

I've been a Search Angel for years - using DNA results to reunite family members. How in the %$^* did this Prof identify an adoptee from a distant cousin match????? The only way to identify a 1/2 sibling is if that sibling or a child or grandchild of the sibling also tests with the same company. A distant cousin will do nothing for the search and this woman already knows her family. What needs to be explained is how the distant cousin knew who the adoptee was (when her own sister didn't know!) and where she was.

It's not just DNA, it's DNA+traditional record search+social media search, all combined. It's always that way in these kind of situations. If you're a search angel, then you know how that works.

It’s certainly not all good but so very many of those adopted would have otherwise grown up in total dysfunction/poverty/young parents etc. if the parents were set up to be capable parents in most situations they wouldn’t have been given up. Are there bad things, absolutely …however millions have been saved from vastly inferior living standards and would have had completely different lives. So many end up with far far far greater stability, education support, good education, happy childhoods and stable adulthoods.
