I think the majority of people couldn't stand Jodie Whitaker's era and this new era is also divisive. It has the bones of being good but is just being weighed down by boring messaging. I think the majority of fans are just not interested in the doctor being romantic or sexual. Plus the script writing for this series has been very poor.

I guess one thing is that the Doctor was always "above" romance. Previous romantic encounters were all circumstantial. Here, it feels like he is being actively romantic, and many people find it jarring. Also, this is a Bridgerton episode, but Bridgerton is an alternative history drama where Black people can live normally among white rich folks, and modern pop songs are played as quasi-classical music. In Doctor Who, I can tolerate the music part, but seeing so many people of color dancing around white people feels off. It seems like they conveniently turn the racism aspect on or off whenever they want to address it. Where is the consistency? That being said, I really like the interaction between Rogue and the Doctor, if the homoeroticism only floats to the surface near the end, and he kisses the Doctor right before sacrificing himself, then it would be good balance.

So they've destroyed the Doctor Who central character himself now? Its his complex cerebral and enigmatic aloofness - the other worldiness and sense of being an outsider that once appealed (I suspect) to its early gay fandom. You turn him into a giggly hyper-emotional school girl, subject to OTT camp whims - romancing and clubbing his way across the universe - and presumably subject to the other boring foibles and traits of the most vain, shallow Tiktok gen (with attention spans to match) where do you go with that? Looks like Bridgerton meets WIlly Wonka meets Wizard of Oz gay fantasy drama - with (for some reason) extra sci-fi elements thrown in (or rmeaining as hang over from its glory days). Imagine that Mr. Spock is next for same treatment. Hey Gen Z - instead of feasting on the carcass of endless past genuinely innovative and creative shows - and supposedly 're-inventing 'them ---and thereby destroying the original charm in the process --- why not produce something genuinely new and innovative yourselves. Because I'm not seeing it out there.

i personally would love to have Mr Spock get RTD-ified. When I look at Ncuti I see Christopher Eccleston. It is not our fault you can’t see past the buzzwords and media to notice that this is still the Dr Who we know and love. In fact I especially dislike such ventures when they build on the back of something that was genuinely original and engaging creations of the past. If RTD is so fresh and creative and wanted to sell a full on LGBTQ focussed show with sexual and romantic themes then he should have come up with something original ideas of his own. Not hijacked Dr Who. I know its a kids show initiallly but it always worked on multiple levels - including grown up. This is shallow and without depth - and if I was 9 year old I might love it. I'm not.

This incarnation has turned what was an asexual strong character based adventure story driven sci-fi (ish) into a gay-friendly/hetero exclusionary, gossip-girl/ Bridgerton sex-in the city cross over meme count non-sci-fi fantasy(and anything else vacuously trending on tik-tok) . It's dreary predictable and vapid and appeals to only a few percent - which explains its very low ratings to match. Its throwaway stuff and will not be fondly remembered as older Doctor Who will be. Bitter assessment? - or just more grounded in truth and reality? The latter I think
