@@whereismissije1422of course they are the ones who MUST hold corrupt local officials accountable! It has to start with the people. Pointing fingers at the West will do NOTHING to change things at home! Again, it MUST start with the people.
@whereismissije1422
@whereismissije1422 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your response. Pointing fingers isn't what it is. It's stating what is fact. Part of a story or a half truth is a lie and it's good to say it. Also, if people had basic needs met, including not having water that is sometimes polluted by foreign companies, they might have time to fight. Perhaps we need to stop telling Africans what they are not doing, when often they do act with courage, and ponder if our nation is gaining or we as individuals are benefitting from our own corrupt governments. Corruption isn't only an African thing. Some western lands have the structures, some the legacy from slavery, so corruption doesn't seem overt. Lastly, go to Spain, Thailand(!!), Canada, Australia, China and many African countries and you will see where the British and German etc migrants exodus ends. I genuinely would like to see videos on how easy it's made for some and the bias in that. @mllee2008

How will Africa change when these so called western countries have deliberately creat global institutions that are aimed at keeping Africa poor. Yes our leaders might have a part to play but global economic/financial system in their current state do not favour Africa developing.for example? Why re most African countries still speaking colonial languages despite gaining independence?

Some of them are really brainwashed to think that as long as they get to Europe, all their problems will be fixed. There is actually not a lot of thinking with those ones. I met many such people in Iraq. The escapism drove everything in their lives.

@linthexplorer814 The changes now need to start from the people now, from bottom to top, instead of the other way around. If those at the bottom can do the right things amongst themselves, obey simple things as traffic (lights) rules and regulations to other basics and also ignore handouts from politicians during elections. I believe such a togetherness of wanting a change will force politicians and those in power and corridors of power to have a rethink of their actions to do the right things.

I recently moved to Valencia Spain and have met two guys who took that journey. One from Senegal and one is from Gambia. They showed me video on their phone. I can say, while they are thankful to have survived the journey, life is still very difficult for them here in Valencia, as they don't have the proper papers to obtain work legally. They do have shelter in a church that works with the immigrants, and they attend spanish language classes. I pray for them.

As South Africans, we voted out a 30-year government out of power. Many Africans mocked us and said we voted for Apartheid even though the DA ( a white majority party only got 20 votes, same as the last 3 elections, but the ANC fell from 67 to 40. We have had 24 hours of electricity since the elections, and we have seen many politicians being jailed for Corruption. Illegal Pakistani and Bangladeshi shops have been closed for selling expired food to school kids, only this year 8 children died. We are called Xenophobic for standing up against lawless immigrants. Rather than then risk dying at sea just to go wash and change the diapers of sick old people in Europe or pick fruit.

@@Joe-tr2vkit’s not the same though. I guess the “hope” is that one day they will “make it”. We have so many illegal migrants arriving in the uk from France and we cannot stop these boats, not the French nor the British, two military powers, probably the best militaries in Europe. Maybe our governments want the illegal migrants?? But at the end of the day they might get that nice house or job and bring their families over and eventually live that normal life they seek, that’s their goal. In their desperate village in Africa (and certainly all of Africa is NOT a desperate village!!!) that “hope” is lost. But I think it’s all going to lead to mass unrest within the next 10 years.

Senegalese here and worked with Kenyans a Remote job for 3 years. Let me tell you that the reality on the ground is very different almost dystopian. Those crazy figures of growth are nothing more but stats of projected growth and are solely focused in the Capital city Dakar Plateau and surrounding bougie neighborhoods of Dakar which is the only advanced region of the country. All administrative offices, companies and major opportunities are concentrated there alone. In comparison you’d have something like the Nice part of Nairobi versus inland Kenya. Opportunity exists everywhere but when tourists come and buy beach front properties and then rent them on Airbnb and online platforms and yet cash in all of the profits themselves, the hotel industry ended up crashing, not to talk about Chinese and European boats siphoning fish off of our seas with industrial size boats and equipments in comparison to small wooden boats the same used to go to Europe. Oh and the Indians competing with farmers and small real estate bureaus with their thousands of allocated acres of land that we the people could never have access to even if it’s a small piece of land the straining processes and fees is unbearable. Another thing is majority of businesses that hire are small and struggle to sign clients so hiring ain’t in the budget, everybody hangs on nails and teeth to their jobs because if you loose it then you’re in deep trouble especially with Dakar being the second most expensive city to live in west Africa. All this doesn’t justify mass immigration but also the peer pressure of society and families on men making them feel worthless and borderline insulting them daily is what truly pushes them. Again you can work the land instead of

Poverty… has a pervasive psychosocial effect on people. And it often presents in ways that make others who are well of think they would do profoundly better than those they judge. I have often thought it a great idea that in societies where great inequality presents, it should be government sanction that the wealthy should be taxed quite heavily. And not only that, but they have to be “adopted” by a family that is below the poverty line for every fourth month for at least four years. They can not take with them anything, but will have to survive on what their adoptive family manages to scrape together in that month. I tell you right now… poverty will be solved way faster if that were decreed. Billionaire will develop real empathy, not of the tax exemption kind they always highlight to us.

I moved to Palma 3,5 years ago from holland and noticed that there are many senegalese here, most are street sellers and very friendly. Earlier this year I went travelling to Senegal and spoke with several people and all they had in common was the dream to go to Europe because of the lack of opporunities and work in their own country, they are economic refugees because Senegal is a safe and for African terms a stable country. Here I noticed as well that the people are known to be very friendly (teranga) and their cuisine is also a must try. Compared to other immigrants or 3rd generation from immigrant families, the senegalese are definitely more friendly and hard working, I got the feeling that not much of them end up in criminal activities (unless you count street selling as part of it). They are also good in languages, all senegalese I met here in Palma speak spanish at a decent level, good people

For me apart from opportunities its just a mentality. If you can afford 1000 USD for the journey, you can use that money to start even a small business. West Africans have advanced that mentality too far. Here in East Africa like Kenya things are tough but we still work hard locally to better the situation and there is nobody who is always striving to risk their lives in such ways.

Thank you, but this film really made me sick. The drama of the illegal boats to Europe is almost glorified here, while the reporter indicates that he has returned to Senegal to teach people not to leave. I don't see him telling anyone; Dude, don't go, it's not Walhalla there. But he's there with some smiling fellow Africans on the Canary Islands selling fake sunglasses on the streets. I don't see any images of how and where these people live there. I also see him talking to a mother in Senegal, whose 17-year-old daughter left without her knowledge. How does a teenager get so much money to be able to leave without help? Mohammed, interviewed in this film, also had to pay a large amount for the crossing. He had a job and his own vegetable garden, but said that was not enough. Still, he was able to save the money for the crossing. I think that if the Spanish, and the others, like China, would stop empty fishing The West African waters, fewer fishermen would leave. Until then, there is enough work and opportunities for everyone to make a better life. Don't go anywhere, Africa has everything!

Its painful to realise that very powerful nations with much higher GDP per capita would decide to enter into fishing arrangements with nations whose livelihoods solely depend on their God-given waters. Which other industry should they turn to then? The same powers that be chair the so-called sustainability summits year on year. The causes and effects of migration are truly far reaching and it breaks my heart to listen to these lived experiences. Thank you for the documentary, we learn everyday.

What I find even more heartbreaking are the Africans who spread lies about life in Europe. They are the criminal human traffickers, but also the fellow Africans who live in Europe. They come home on holidays with their stories about their fantastic lives in Europe, while in the Parisian banlieues they share a dirty room with four others, trying to earn their money by selling plastic souvenirs of Eiffel Towers in the city centre. Poverty exist everywhere in the world, including Senegal. But in Senegal there's no famine or war. In fact, there are enough jobs available, for example in agriculture and in sewing workshops. Changing jobs is always difficult, especially in cultures where knowledge of a trade is passed on from "father to son" and "mother to daughter". No matter what they are going through, the solution is not to get on a boat for a perilous crossing to "Eldorado".

Here's some news nobody here is talking about. Africans go to Europe and they can't work the first few years because of language issues and so on. They are raising taxes everywhere in Western Europe. Europeans are finding it harder and harder to find social housing because there are so many migrants also waiting in line. European citizens are paying for all this, and they're tired of it. Yes, life in Africa is hard, and everybody feels for you, but it shouldn't be some poor German person's responsibility to pay for your family's apartment and income.

If you stop exploiting Africa to maintain your standard of living you wouldn't want have this problem. You think Africans want to leave Thier families behind to go and live with Europeans. No they have no choice because European states and corporations are still exploiting the African continent and paying off greedy, unpatriotic and corrupt African leaders and bureaucrats. If you want to address the issue let's approach it from all the angles. There's no singular cause it's a plethora of things.

It's so sad to hear all the young people here in Morocco talk about leaving or have tried. Some also spend thousands trying to go to a western country. I know the conditions are not easy, but what if all that money were invested on sustainable projects so that people could thrive in their home country? Governments matching those funds would be super helpful too! Climate change is making all of this stuff even more difficult though. There is a water crisis here in Morocco (and other nations). But just the risk of life and what it does emotionally to families is not worth it. Humans are so intelligent. I think if communities can work together, they can find solutions, even if their government cannot or will not help them 🙏🌍

Poverty, daily struggle hopelessness and desperation are the leading factors behind this arduous journey in the Atlantic Ocean and many are those that perished and never made it to their destination. To some, it’s familial or social pressure. Getting encouraged by your loved one to embark on that journey just because the neighbor son/daughter did it built a house. Corruption could not be ignored.
