I do love these clips from the BBC archive...we usually see how Britain has become more advanced thanks to modern technology...but this clip shows that we’ve gone backwards when it comes to customer-service, dedication & genuine common-courtesy (all things the UK was once famous for)🤦🏻‍♂️

The postman at Holyhead is my father, R H Rowlands, I remember him telling me he had been filmed delivering mail but I don't think he ever saw this documentary.

Too many see the post as being a business solely to make profit, and not a public service for our benefit first and foremost. Until that is rectified, the postal service will continue to decline.

10,000 emails can never replace single 'snail mail'. Still remember the excitement of seeing the postman on our door - the occasion really did not matter!

Better then delivering mail today. Life seemed better then. And you can still have cars.

I’m waiting for post, but some how I don’t think the postman/woman will be making epic journeys to deliver it. Maybe after Christmas😂🤔

What a healthy life back them. Little to no cars, high breastfeeding rates, traditional houses, organic food, fresh air (except in London and Birmingham), simple life and polite people. I was born in the wrong era!!! I need a time machine I am sick of modern life so much!!!

These days people miss hospital appointments because posties can’t be arsed
@ronjenkijns4743

You need to get your facts right. Blame the senior management. Parcels get priority now because that’s where the profits lie. We are regularly told to leave the mail but make sure the parcels are delivered. Basically I could be delivering a pair of socks to a customer and it takes priority over a hospital appointment. You can blame privatisation on this mess. Ring up your local delivery office, speak to the manager and ask if they prioritise parcels.

Boldly racist statement. It was Britain herself who ‘kept’ worldwide colonies. Surely it’s predictable many people would migrate to the ‘mother’ country that got rich and prosperous of these very colonies.

@@aaronbeatup I was born and brought up in a 2 up 2 down with no bathroom and an outside lav. My Grandad and uncles worked on the railways. My Dad worked all his life, specifically in a foundry in the 1920’s straight from school. He was a staunch socialist all his life. We had little food, a tin bath in front of the fire. Don’t you dare call me anti working class. But I would never strike around Christmas to make life harder for the fellow working man.
