Sadly he died not long after this was broadcast. One of the TV figures I remember so clearly from my childhood - along with Clive James, Keith Floyd and Wogan

Yes alas he did too. I remember the series being on bbc2 at the time then too.

Stark difference between the manner of Floyd and that recent ‘loud mouth’ with the rasping voice.

I remember he went too the then German border and had to turn round at the time so too.

@@victorsauvage1890 I assume you mean Ramsay; if so, I agree. However, much as I loved Floyd''s ramshackle, chaotic presentation style, as I understand it, he was an often tricky person to work for/with.

I also remember Russell, Clive, Keith and Terry The 70’s and of course the 80’s when this sort of documentary was just so entertaining all 4 dead 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I could have watched so much more of this. I think Russell Harty would have made a wonderful TV traveller and his early death was a great loss to the world of entertainment.

Indeed, I was just getting in to this when it finished, I wanted more lol.

@@hilaryepstein6013 I know just after he died in June 1988 we saw where he was buried in settle in North Yorkshire at the time. I remember he had been ill in Leeds with liver disease I think. He was a friend of the great alan Bennett as well too.

@@hilaryepstein6013 he had already had his own chat shows on bbc1 until wogan took over and on bbc2 of course when Grace Jones hit him for some reason too I think he was on itv lwt as well too. He was just as good as aspel parkinson and woman too on tv then.

I remember Russell Harty.....big star in his time and sadly died not long after this series was aired. It would be great if the BBC posted all the episodes of his Grand Tour on KZbin.

Yes please. It would be great to see more of this series. Why not release the whole thing?

Now, that area is like a never ending bad dream. You need to always look behind your shoulder. The security at Eiffel Tower resembles the one from an airport. You see military personnel, hanging around, displaying their powerful rifles. Such a sad experience… I love Paris and I’ve visited it over 10 times (including once this year), yet within the last 15 years I’ve seen a continuous deterioration 😞

I love Harty’s strange mix of RP and Lancastrian. “Ooo it’s luvley!" "I mean er, ‘quite divine…'" “an' that.”

It be great to get more Russell harty stuff on KZbin, there’s not enough of him. Especially his interviews.
