Having made long and dangerous journeys to escape war and persecution, young children have applied for asylum in the UK in the hope of making better lives for themselves. Recently though, four young asylum seekers from Eritrea took their own lives after arriving in London and some charities are claiming that our government’s hostile immigration policies were a contributing factor. Artist Lula Mebrahtu, born in Eritrea herself, has been following some unaccompanied children and young adults as they try to navigate our complex asylum system.

In my opinion that Afghan man does not appear to be 22. He looks much much older to me. Why dont the woke allow our system to test these people of their age thru their dental formation. Uk system has to ascertain who these people are. They all say they are children but many are much older. It is so dangerous not knowing who they are where they come as they have no documents. I agree with the authorities completely and their assessment. Most of these people are taking the UK compassion for a ride.

This is a great idea. Why dont they use the method of dental development everywhere. Why arent laws surrounding immigration better all over Europe? I think there must be an enormous pressure from different groups and also corruption... Immigration is a big business for Europeans as well. Dental development is already used in criminal and civil proceedings. Its the most accurate age indicator. Surely doing this would be cheaper than what they are doing now. Sometimes you have to invest to save money.... plus its just a correct thing to do. Politicians are all incapable puppets, seriously.... :(

Most of these youngsters are males from a vastly different cultural heritage and social background than the West. There will be significant challenges of assimilation and integration. There is also the risk of radicalization at the hand of Islamic fundamentalists.

There is now no effective way to successfully challenge a claim that someone is under the age of 18. Local authorities do not have the money to mount numerous successful legal challenges to the inevitable appeals against assessments of being over 18. Once someone is deemed as being under 18, local authorities are often obliged to maintain full support for them until the age of 25.

I am an Eritrean and I came to the UK in 2010. I never take a penny from the government or the Job Center. Try to understand the problem of these people before you speak emotionally and then come to a conclusion. Otherwise, we have put our lives in indescribable trouble to come to the UK or other European countries to get benefits don't narrow mindset.

@@Ramy-cr9rl unfortunately the majority of the single males are here purely for financial purposes. I worked for 8 years in asylum housing and have witnessed it first hand. Unfortunately the home office seen to have a habit of refusing and deporting genuine cases (sometimes having fatal consequences) and granting leave to remain to people who have never set foot on the country they claim to be from.

I used to work in a refugee camp in Norway. There was a Pakistani grandmother with her 3 grand children aged under 5. They travelled overland from Pakistan to Norway without passports. That alone was a feat. Better still they was all born on the 3rd of March, all of them. So many of the refugees in a group without passports have the same dates of birth like 1/1, 2/2, 3/3 and so on. There were also 2 brothers who carries they blind and lame grandfather all the way from Afghanistan til Austria. :) This case was widely reported in the press in 2015

There are a lot of poor immigrants that prefer to don't pay the rent after contract (sometimes the council pay) and get paid in cash for afford the living costs. In their shops no receipts issued, because they can get more money for the childs (generally 4/5 childs per family in our area). Fortunately in UK exists the benefits and free hospitals, in their countries is private (250$ x month x people). Nice to know that people likes the labours exist

You are making aware but don't want to leave people depressed, scared and discouraged. Leave the audience motivated to help.
