The location wasn't what you might consider a "target". It's not like Brixton is at the forefront of national security. There was no reason to expect something like this. The IRA hadn't been targeting the UK for years, Islamic extremism wasn't the problem it is now back in 1999. I'm not saying any of these people are geniuses, but you're all looking at this with 20/20 hindsight in a completely different time.

In fairness, it is a difficult balancing act because, on the one hand, we don't want to be too nonchalant and just pick up a bag we see lying around somewhere presuming that it's just a harmless bag that someone left or forgot, that would be very foolish and naive, yet, at the same time we don't want to go over the top, cause panic and get a whole street shut down over what might turn out to be just a bag of tools or shopping that someone might have simply forgotten. Not many will thank you for that either. So, where do we draw the line?🤔 Well, that's the problem, nobody really knows, not even the police. Remember, the emergency services will be getting calls all of the time and they have to make a quick judgement as to whether the danger is real or someone just being hysterical, or someone pranking them or if it's the real deal. Someone might call the emergency services when they see a bag on the floor and when the police or possibly bomb disposal experts turn up and it transpires it was just an empty bag or something, they might be made to feel like a fool who has wasted their time, even though it might not be said in so many words. In hindsight, if someone ignores a bag that has been left around or moves it and if it turns out to be an explosive device and someone is injured or killed, people will criticise others and say "Hey, you shouldn't have picked it up and put it over there, you should have just left it and called the police" and "You should have done this" and "You should have done that" etc but that's all with the benefit of the aforementioned hindsight. We all live in the moment, not in hindsight. Remember, it's the terrorists who are to blame, not innocent members of the public who may have been naive, and terrorists only have to be lucky once, we have to be alert ALL the time, 24/7 and realistically, that's actually not possible, so we need to give each other a break and not be so critical of someone who might have done things differently to how you think you would have, you don't really know unless you're in that exact moment and that exact situation. Thanks.

The bomb in Brixton has a strange sub plot. Opposite the Iceland store eye witness said they saw people on the roof taking photos of the street below. This was a couple of minutes before the blast. This was touched on in the crimewatch programme shortly after the bombing. Jill Dando seems to have realised its significance on camera, but this information was never taken any further..she was killed that weekend. Now, the building i have talked about has a strange sculpture placed on it. Its a fox and a couple of cherries. This was not part of any remembrance and if you ask locals most were not even aware of it, it seems to have been erected overnight at some point. As for the bomber... he wore the same white baseball cap whilst placing each bomb. Making himself very visible even on the small amount of cameras of the time.. In my opinion theres more to this, suggesting other players in this case. The 2 red flags being the people on the rooftop taking pictures prior to the blast and the white baseball cap.. a basic intelligence technique used to track their own people in crowded and urban areas. As for Jill Dando... maybe she was assassinated because she knew too much. It has as much validity as all the other mooted reasons.

Let's not forget, in 1999 the Good Friday peace agreement was in its' infancy, and te provisional IRA had only bombed Omagh they year before. London had been attacked by the provisional for two decades at this time, and londoners were absolutely aware of the bomb threat which existed in London. That makes the entire response to this bomb such a peculiar incident. These people behaved very strangely for residents of a city which had been targeted with bombs for two decades.

I'm completely amazed at the behaviour of the public. Especially since they were experienced with bomb threats because of the IRA bombing campaign. You would have thought that they'd take a suspected bomb a little bit more seriously. Instead they were moving the bombs from here to there.,crowding around the bag, even disbelieving that there could be a bomb. The Tesco manager should be ashamed of himself that he allowed his customers to approach the bomb just because he didn't believe that it was real. I remember in those days we were all taught to be vigilant and treat every unattended bag as suspicious. There were literally posters and announcements at every bus stop and underground station because of the IRA bombs.

yes, yes, yes. they all acted foolishly. However, the fact that the police were able to pick the guy out in 1999 CCTV! Amazeballs! those folks are the very beginning of what the Brits now call super recognizers. leave it to the British to find specific jobs for one’s specific talent, even something not thought of as a talent is a talent! I believe every culture and every country can learn from this type of celebration in one’s potential. Every human being would be able to have a job if the world operated this way. Every human being can do some thing super well that no one else can possibly do.

The authority figures don't take it seriously, I'm not surprised neither did the shee... public. Why it takes something to actually happen before authorities take things seriously (stalking, bullying also) is a mystery to me 😮😊

BNP - brutto national product 😅

These fascists and nazis are still there. The BNPs vote collapsed and they never recovered from that. Plus the antics of Griffin and various other creepoids within the party ensured they were never going to do much beyond getting stuck in court for inciting racial hatred. They are still committed their warped ideology. I don't think it's much of a reach to look at the rhetoric of the Tory party to see where some of their policies are stolen from and who they appear to.
