It’s disgusting that the men who were given short sentences … they should have been given at least 15 - 20 years each and the ex husband should have been locked up for at least 40 years … these men shouldn’t be called “ men” they are cowards and inhuman…shame on the court and all courts in any country who will not stand up for women.

I don't understand the sentencing periods - they are very short. There must be prejudice from the judge. Perhaps a culture of not giving long enough sentences for rape, which sets a precedent? I mean this is not like other crimes - this is a total violation - a total disrespect for her humanity. Much of her life - is now affected by this, the whole marriage until now and into the future. I mean she is making something wonderful of it - which I hugely respect. But still, it must be so hard. Her children's lives and especially for her poor daughter who got no answers / peace regarding whether she was also raped. These sentences ranging from 3 - 12 years (I think the news reporter said that) are clearly not enough.

Although, at his age, this is probably a life sentence, I do not understand why it is not an actual life sentence. France has life sentences, issuing approximately 25 annually. They are, obviously, for serious offences, including torture. Surely, this offence counts as torture? Giving the monster Pelicot a life sentence would have sent a strong message. It has been said that France has a limit of 20 years, but that applies only to someone who was under the age of 16 when they committed the offence.
