Germany could return to authoritarianism if the economic conditions were to seriously worsen in the country, the son of Hans Frank the governor general of Nazi occupied Poland during World War Two, has told BBC Hardtalk. "As long as our economy is great, and as long as we make money everything is very democratic," said Niklas Frank, but "if we have five to 10 years heavy economic problems the swamp is a lake, and is a sea and will swallow again, everything," he added. Niklas Frank said he "despises" his father for the crimes he committed while he was governor-general of Poland from 1939 to 1945, and tours Germany giving speeches about his father and the legacy of the Nazi era. Hans Frank was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg trials and executed in 1946.

@@m.z4892 the 2nd most popular party being right wing is common place in all democracies. How, may I ask, is the cdu a threat to democracy? The afd is a different matter, but I still believe it to be wholly committed to democracy. What Frank is referring to here is deep and sustained economic depression, not what were are currently experiencing. Whether he agrees with me or not on this doesn't matter, what is currently happening is absolutely nowhere near 1929-1933.

Patriotism is to love ones nation and culture while nationalism is the belief that ones nation must act in it's own interest(ie the interests of it's own people) before acting in the interest of others. Sadly in 1945 we couldn't run the German state without "ex nazis" & with Stalin now on the doorstep, no buffer from western Europe, we had to concentrate on him. We did what we could, we both humbled & taught them, hoping that mercy would help them find the proper path. We even stayed on in many forms to watch over & guide them in our image...then there was no will to de-communize the east when the wall came down; we figured they'd learned that way was stupid too. But both sides rise again, nazis call the center commies & commies call us fascists, bc they can be molded into each other. The one thing both sides despise, the man & woman they cannot mold into their ideologies, is the principled democratic person. For they live by ideology, we live by principle. Do you feel automatic anger & disgust if you see a man beating a woman, no matter their race, or creed, or religion? Then you're principles-based. But if you don't, if you think it might be ok, bc she's a white devil being beat by an oppressed black man, or if it's ok bc it's a non white woman being beat by a fellow white man, or it's ok bc he shares your religion...that's how they think, judging everything through their ideologies and skewing the truth into some twisted criminal game where life is no longer sacred. And it is. All life is sacred, all peoples are equal & capable of being brought into the fold of principled living unless they choose to be messengers of death.

Even amongst Europeans the Germans stand unique in their extreme growth to power. Being so divided and attacking each other off and on throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, it is absolutely incredible that they not only untied but became a massive power both economically and militarily. To then start the largest war in history, lose, then do it again, and lose again. But both times Germany managed to return to a powerful state where the rest of the world had to recognize their potential....... Germans if anything represent raw potential in all its best and worst ways.

Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931, Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1935. The USSR had been expanding farther across Central Asia ever since the Bolshevik Revolution and invaded Estonia, Latvia and Finland in 1939 and Lithuania in June 1940. There are traits that are inherent in population groups of people I'm Irish I see that in me and other Irish people! I see patterns of traits in the English that go beyond social upbringing and in German people! He is probably accurate where while they are unlikely to make the same mistakes it doesn't mean that a people isn't prone to say not understand easily how to be compassionate within a ridged system and I would say Greece would be a good example of how it hasn't changed!

He is a degenerate and not to be taken serious. In his book he described how he masturbated over the thought of his father getting hanged. He is a senile old man, who doesnt understand modern politics. What he says is nonsense. While this type of crime is in the nature of every humane and just needs a certain environment to evolve, germany is honestly the last nation to commit it again. Because everybody knows the steps towards cruelty and learns them dozens of times in school.

@@peterlustig6888 Maybe so, but he's not the guy that killed many millions of people and my point is you cannot blame him for things he didn't do and had no control over. He's the kid of Adolf Hitler and the fact you feel the need to point out the guy's a degenerate is kind of a no shit sherlock moment.. He's Hitler's kid, did you expect him to go on to stop world hunger and win best man of the century award or something? Needless to say, if you saw the stuff happening in concentration camps as he did and know your family's to blame, that would change you, and not in a way that's reversible by any means. Masturbated over the thought of Hitler being hanged isn't anywhere near the level of fucked up his father went to. Everyone wanted to see Hitler dead and honestly speaking I'm absolutely certain when saying he probably wasn't the only one to have done so. Back to what my comment was about (people blaming him for his fathers actions) if you took one look at how people that look at world war 2 perceive him, you'd see I'm not mistaken by saying people actively blame him for things he didn't even do or have control over. Just because you see him as a senile old man who's spewing things that don't make sense in the modern day world left right and center does not mean the things he's spewing have no logical reasoning behind thinking that way, or that he's wrong just because it doesn't fit into the current scenario. And it certainly does not mean to say people should have or should continue to place blame on him for the faults of his father.

Nationalism is like religion - only reason why someone would believe in it is through INDOCTRINATION. No free-thinking kid is born caring about their country.......nor should they. Say what you will about FDR and his New Deal, but without that we definitely would've had something similar to the Nazis or the Soviets gaining power within our country.
