In May 2024, Earth saw a huge increase in extreme geomagnetic storms, leading to some spectacular aurora displays around the world.
This increase in charged particles hitting the Earth is because the Sun is reaching its "solar maximum" - a period of intense activity on its surface.
With the help of new footage from Nasa's Solar Dynamics Observatory, we look at why the Earth is under constant bombardment from the 'solar wind'.

I’m surprised how almost everyone on the Internet is not worried about the solar maximum.

Solar Maximum, El Nino and La Nina on top of this man-made climate change is crazy.

The last solar flare that we experienced recently has definitely changed what happens around us. Amphibians and reptiles are acting different even. They don't seem to want to be out in the direct light for long anymore. They scurry away like something is biting them. My neighbors were both out in the yard when it hits and they said that they immediately got fatigue, and nauseous. Even the plants are acting a little weird. They are growing different and behaving a little different than normal. The differences are very slight but I am a very detailed person most of the time. Why isn't anyone talking about this? I understand that most people live in cities and cannot discern one thing from another, as they have no experience. I can't be the only one however.

Seeing polar light in Poland when you are kilometres away from Scandinavia, is priceless. Thanks to Piotr Michalec from "Kadry na luzie" for his incredible photos. I haven't seen polar light myself because I live in the city and my windows aren't directed East.

This appears to be an edited repost of a clip a week ago. Is there information why the original version was pulled off?

It's an easy way to bypass the algorithm that catches duplicate videos. Being able to repost "original" content without having to reproduce it is an easy way to get more clicks and money.

Would have been helpful if your news website forecast it, instead of prioritising non relevant articles. A lot of people missed out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to see it

Don't worry. With the weakening geomagnetic field, more and more auroras will be visible as the sun reaches solar maximum

Yes, I found out about the solar storm the next day. I was pretty disappointed, considering I'm subscribed to some otherwise good space-related channels. I sat up the next night - on the promise that there would be another display. Couldn't find a time reference for it, gave up waiting, went in. Following night - cloudy. So, I have never seen the Aurora borealis in my life...57.

Surely this affects weather patterns on earth as these flares have been shooting out toward earth? Great photopraphy

Solar Flares have some effects on the Earth surface, but there's a more greater emergency with the increase activities dealing with Polymorphous on people on the Earth as well.

The aurora for Jupiter & Saturn are actually generated by volcanic action by their respective moons Io & Enceladus

The poles shift alot right? I don't think it's as devastating as we think. I mean you can check with a magnet where the pole was on individual pieces of Rock and a group of rocks in the same place cN give drastically different results I'm clearly no expert
