The former emperor is really a cool person. He is not only the first person to break the tradition and married a commoner. In fact, he didn't want to be an emperor but a scholar and he's renowned of his research on a particular kind of fish. He's even the first person in the royal family to ever studied abroad (Oxford university I believe). Now he's finally not an emperor anymore and he's happily doing his research with his beloved wife.

Wasn't his father the first to break tradition, he stuck by his wife when everyone at court, his advisors, the military, everyone was pressuring him to get concubines. He didn't want it. He wanted to just have one wife and they all didn't like her and dissuaded him from marrying her even. They were so powerful, they could've gotten rid of him as emperor if they chose. He was also against the atrocities committed during ww2 and didn't want to go to war, his generals proceeded without his consent and went against him. He was hostage to them yet he stuck by his choice of wife, and only 1 wife.

@Amy It is unfortunately, eventhough I personally love Japan for how developed and advanced the country is. Gender inequality still very much persists in the Japanese society. Japanese men tend to see themselves as ‘superior’ as they’re providing income for the family; while women are still being traditionally asked to ‘stay at home, and be a good housewife’. The wage gap between male and female is about 38% in 2015 and 25% in the year of 2017. So yeah, things are slowly improving. :)

Even as time goes by and the surface of a town changes, nothing changes in the underlying foundation of the unique Japanese culture. The common root of the creation of originality in Japanese culture is the uniqueness of its geopolitical location and the influence of its natural environment. Even if they import culture and knowledge from abroad, they are not dominated by it, and after a certain period of time, they select the content, integrate it with their own culture, improve it, and eventually create a new style. Why, then, have they been trying to improve existing things and create new ones? The reason is obvious: the unique natural environment of Japan, an island nation. Japan's ancient adaptive behavior to survive in the harsh natural environment has given birth to a Japanese culture of behavior, in which people always think creatively and without giving up on reality. Japan's original country name "NIPPON”means "the land under (of) the sun" , but another traditional country name is "WA (YAMATO) ” , meaning “Peacefull Harmony”. So Japan's real name means “the Land of the Sun” and” the Land of "Great Peacefull Harmony (of People and Nature),” The history of Japan is very old, about 2,000 years since the Emperor's reign, but humans began to live in villages and communities in this island nation about 14,000 years ago, during “the JOMON pottery” culture. (That's 30,000 years ago, if you count the Neolithic period.) Surrounded on all sides by the sea and geographically isolated from the Eurasian continent in the Pacific Ocean, this island nation has a warm and humid climate, and because it is a volcanic island, mountains occupy about 80% of its land, it is rich in underground clear water resources through its natural filtration system, and is blessed with diverse vegetation and fishery resources. For this reason, people have lived here for tens of thousands of years, enjoying the abundant nature and living in peace with nature. Since ancient times, the people of this land have respected human harmony and have lived in peace by working together as a group. However, while the natural environment of this island nation is rich to live, it is also harsh to live and has both light and dark sides. They have shared and enjoyed the blessings of nature by pooling their wisdom and collectively overcoming numerous severe and harsh natural disasters, such as frequent volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunami, summer typhoons, and heavy snowfall in winter. This is because this island nation has a harsh natural environment that cannot be overcome by a single person. Individuals are too weak to face the fury of nature when natural disasters suddenly strike the wealth they have built up and can destroy their cities overnight. That is why Japanese people believed that they should suppress their egos, avoid conflict among humans, cooperate with each other to create a livable environment and maintain public cleanliness, and join forces to prevent disasters before they occur and to restore the environment immediately after they have occurred. They believed that this is the most wise, efficient, and rational way to maintain peace and freedom in each other's lives, this would bring about better results rather than to create more chaos and conflict by insisting on each other's selfishness. because of the environment in which disasters frequently occur that cannot be resolved by individual power alone. And this thinkings have given rise to Japan's unique teachings, culture, and behavior. For example, it is fundamentally connected to the Japanese mindset of "Behaving in a way that does not bother others in public places," "Helping each other if someone is in trouble," and "Not doing bad things even if no one is watching." And one of the teachings of the ancient Shinto religion, "Purify yourself (kiyome) by getting rid of Defilement (kegare)," has been taken over today as a basic manner to "Not pollute even in public places," to “Always keep the environment and yourself clean”, and to make everyone, regardless of status, gender, or age. feel comfortable equally. The warm and humid island climate is not only a paradise for humans and animals, but also a paradise for bacteria and microorganisms to thrive. Without cleanliness in daily life, bacteria can easily multiply and food can spoil. It is clear why the ancient Japanese Shinto religion taught the importance of “maintaining a clean environment on a daily basis. Even before the development of science, they strictly taught cleanliness because they knew that laziness and uncleanliness would lead to plague and other disasters through the growth of invisible bacteria, leading to the death and destruction of a people. This is the ancient wisdom to survive safely in the dangerous natural environment unique to this island nation(the climate in Japan, unlike that of the continent, is humid, and pathogens can easily multiply.) Over the years, this wisdom to live has been formed into a unique Japanese behavior and culture that is different from that of other countries. The Japanese people have lived in this land since ancient times, and based on their experience of the coexistence of heaven and hell, they believed that human beings are not the main actors in the natural world, but are only one member of the natural world and one of the objects that are kept alive by the natural environment. Therefore, with an attitude of humility, human beings thought that harmony with the natural world, other living creatures, and nature, as well as cooperative behavior and peaceful harmony among other human beings, were important. After all, They have thought this is the wisest way to live happily for the limited period of one's human life on this earth. For example, even in the period when the Samurai came to conduct substantial affairs of state in the form of receiving imperial commissions from the Emperor, the practical administrative functions were simply transferred from the Emperor to the Samurai class (police and military organizations), and the Samurai of each period did not destroy the Emperor's family by receiving them as worship services, This is the reason why the Emperor's lineage has continued for about 2,000 years until the present day. Also, when Buddhism, which originated in India, was imported to Japan via China about 1,300 years ago, the Japanese merged the two without causing a religious war with Shinto, the existing traditional religion of Japan. This is the reason why many Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples remain active and coexist in various parts of Japan today. This peaceful harmony and avoidance of human conflict is characteristic of the traditional behavior of Japanese culture. The ancient name of Japan, "YAMATO" or "WA" (peaceful harmony between people and nature), represents the wishes and reality of the people who have been trying to survive in the rich and at the same time harsh natural environment unique to island countries, which is different from the dry and stable land of the Eurasian continent. And it is in this ancient Japanese country name "YAMATO/WA" that the essence of Japanese culture, the origin and secret of its unique culture, which is very different from the cultures of other Asian countries on the continent, is hidden. What is happening in Japan is definitely a phenomenon on this same planet, not on Mars.

I think we are having this irregular Era today but I think it was necessary because genes being too close, it has risk of having many problems and Princess Michiko is not-royal but noone in those days regard her has "normal" family like us though she was way too normal for the royal family and now we have discussion sometimes she changed so many things there and that is why we are having problems today but we don't know rather it was good or not because we cannot imagine the place like that

Ironically, with the end of the television era and the spread of the Internet, the princess is known for her luxury and bullying of her son's wife, Princess Masako.

Hello everyone. As many foreigners are familiar with, Kei Komuro has been arrested by the FBI for illegal admission to Fordham University and detained in a detention center. For backdoor admission, Akishinomiya and Mako have been forced to bear heavy taxes because Kei Komuro's study abroad expenses have been drained from the national taxes. Please let me know when the TV broadcast of the trial (late August-September) of "Kei Komuro's Fordham University Fraud Case" that is about to begin in the United States begins. You can also look up the case number.

Yet when Princess Mako wanted to marry a commoner the tabloids hounded her so much she developed PTSD. They hounded her fiancé, For what? He had long hair. Went after his mother; after 10 years they eventually married but, have had to move to the USA to escape the disgusting media. She had to give up her title, is no longer a Royal, lost her protection, money everything (sound familiar? Think of Prince Harry) She married for love, isn’t that what everyone wants. Shame on newspaper editors. Seems like the UK’s disgusting example of an editor called Piers Morgan, Japan has equally disgusting tabloid editors. Anything to make a yen!

I’m Japanese, and you seem to know nothing about crucial information relating to this matter. Too many things happened, and it wasn’t just about his mother, but he also has his own issues which were not reported in western media, such as him recording the private discussion between his mother and her ex fiancé, and disclosing only the tiny part of the recoding that merit themselves, not showing any appreciation toward his mother’s ex fiancé from whom he received money to enter uni, obvious lies in his resumes, gaining a large financial support for studying law abroad from the company after quitting the job just because he was the fiancé of the princess even though he was only a clerk in the office with no law related background education, writing down his status as a fiancé of a princess of Japan on his resume to get into a law school in US (using imperial status for personal gain is abhorred in Japan. It’s not possible for Japanese imperial family to gain personal money by constitution unlike in western royals), him not ever had any education in Law suddenly receiving full scholarship from a prestigious law school in US, and failing to gain the NY state law certificate (about 80% of the law school graduates pass the test) even though it’s very easy to get compared to Japanese law certificate, and becoming the first student who received the scholarship to fail the test….there are many other things that Japanese think he is not appropriate for becoming a relative close to the Emperor. But Western media, especially American, only report “ponytail” incident, and as usual, label Japan as a backward country. (Plus the fact that his mother’s husband committing suicide by self-immolation and the consecutive suicides by the husbands’ parents and the mother dating Yakuza right after that were among the reason why people get the most suspicious of. )

this was the 1950s, a globalized 20th century world. What do you expect people were wearing?
He didn't lose his title. Kinda unfair because females royalties lose theirs if they marry commoners.

Well. That’s because the wife of the emperor is marrying into the family. However there have been female rulers in the past
