Thank you BBC for bringing up some of the good time of my young age. 👍

It still brought tears to my eyes watching this after all these years … My impression of looking out from the aircraft window to locate the different areas in Kowloon shortly before landing is still very strong … it was like only couple months ago.. it was nearly 30years ago . This is an unique experience & we can never have that again .. thank you Cap. Sherman for missing the Kai tak airport as many of our local people do …

Mr Sherman..... I didn't realise that it was a Mr Sherman that flew the Cathay routes... Well.. it is a Ms Helen Sherman that went up into space too in the 1990s.. if I recall. Like daughter like father.

啟德見證香港輝煌, period. Sad to see it is over and keep on going down hill since then!
I was on a return flight back to Hong Kong in summer of 1997. During the landing, the plane was so close to the buildings' roof tops, and I was lucky enough to be able to see people were hanging their clothes their. It was one of a kind experience.

Thank you for your service, Cpt Kim Sharman. On behalf of the people of Hong Kong, I would like to send our deepest respect to the RAF and the Royal Navy. You British had brought us great honour and glorious like we will never see again.
Those were the good old days, 想當年,晚上飛入香港,見到機場萬家燈火,是考機師技術,到了land 那一刻,所有乘客拍爛手掌,第一次來香港的外國人齊說magnificent! 現在想起眼淚盈眶,香港巳不是當年的香港,!

Thank you for your service, Captain. What a remarkable way for a retirement flight.

Absolutely touched once hearing the caption said he retired after this last flight. A caption ended his career with the retirement of an airport. Vis versa. Such iconically. Good choose.
I still remember in the early 1990's there was once I took BA flight from LHR to Kai Tak. The Boeing 747 tried to land in heavy rain and aborted at the very last possible moment because downpour suddenly increased intensity. The plane pulled sharply up over mountains on Hong Kong island and turned a full circle before smoothly landed on the second attempt. Have to cheer for pilots' skills and concentration, especially after the long overnight flight. Shortly after that experience, a China Airlines' 747 overshoot the runway and ended up in Victoria harbour.
後生果陣住係東頭邨 最威就係可以同friend 講 慢慢行路去到富豪酒店搭電梯上到停車場果層 再入機場check in 搭飛機😊

Never had a chance to experience but it still brings me the sense of awesomeness that it brings to the passengers coming to Hong Kong.

Wonderful article. I remember the first time I flew into the UK.. I think it was via Cathay.... didn't realise that it has now been such a long time ago ?..... I still remember not wanting to leave my grandmother behind, and then I had to join my parents here in the UK for work and for schooling. How time flies. I still recall there used to be some chinese travel agencies that we often used. Far East, it was called... and I think my dear father saw how homesick I was.. he flew me back via BA the following year to see my grandparents. And that was also how.. I also tried to fly as often as I could to see my parents in HK as well... during my earlier years of my career. Similarly the same too with my nephew, to see my mother. 60 years is not a short time at all.. and to perfect flying, it isn't as easy either. People often think that it was so easy... and we talk so much online now, as if something could happen so easily .. but without realisation of all the hard work behind the scenes. Thank you Mr Sherman. For this wonderful memory lane journey.
Feel touching & a lot of memories in my heart ❤️ Goodbye Kai Tak we Hongkongers grew up with it mostly

Those pink bar is disturbing and unnecessary. The subtitle is large plus the freshing pink bar, it cover half of the screen. Watching on mobile were even harder. 巨型字幕再加粉紅色閃動條子的畫面效果,遮了半個畫面,很可惜,而且很多餘!
