This was my sisters absolute favorite movie. She passed from cancer 4/2/22. I'm currently driving from NJ to FL for her memorial tomorrow and you got me crying and smiling in here girl. Played it for her while in hospice and vowed never to watch it again and here comes this vid. Thank you for this. Even if I never watch again, I enjoyed this so much.

I wanted to add my comment from the live: Hear me out: Dresser and Eddie are closest to each other. They are a bit older and of the world more. JT and Duck automatically have a bond being brothers and Choir Boy is the youngest. We see a glimpse of how close they are during the abortion scene. Dresser took it much harder to see Eddie’s downfall/betrayal. Notice how Eddie spoke to no one but Dresser under the bridge when they went to see him.

Bondy!!! as I was watching this review there were times I started to tear up. I’m thinking “is my period about to start?” & as the review kept going I realized that as a kid I was always alone & this movie is one of the movies (along with the original hairspray)that I used to comfort me, to make me feel less alone… fast forward to the end of this review and you took those words right out of my head…I started crying again. When I first saw this movie it was with my family. We rented the vhs tape from a video store. We watched it and when we got to the end, we rewound the tape and watched it again that same night! It was that good! Definitely in my top 5 favorite movies!

Despite how times the group had a reason to be upset (ie the album cover fiasco and the cops stopping ) , he was always the diplomatic brother that saw both sides of the spectrum. That’s why the scenes where he lose his cool was so gut wrenching and super sad (ie when he broke down when told them about Brenda and when he found out that Eddie was somewhat behind the death of Jimmy) because it takes ALOT for Dresser to get upset . And when he goes there …. Man … it’s a hurtful thing to see . 3. Duck of course was the talent. The musical genius who wrote every piece of music in five part harmony 😅. He was also the passion of the group . He brought out the talent in everyone.

He brought out the bass in Dresser and the church out of Choirboy . When he left the group , the passion died … therefore the group vanished into obscurity. 4. Choirboy was the spirit of the group . The mascot if you will . When the group was getting booed, he took the hits . Although fearful at times to perform, he knew that the group acquired this magic that exuded every time they hit the stage. Notice when he was complaining about getting hit in the head with the bottle , Dresser stated that “No one is Forcing you “. Meaning he could leave. But he NEVER leaves , going to every show and encountering every single messed up situation with the group … with the Bible in hand .

My all time favorite movie! My 10 and 13 year old watch it with me When my hubby says to me, I gotta fight to prove my love, they laugh. They love the scene at the talent show. Fun Fact: Eddie Kane, Michael White has family in Charleston SC my hometown. I went to a funeral saw him and was like anyone tell you that you look like Eddie Kane Jr? He smiled at me, said it's King and thank you. I was so hyped. I also met JT -Leon while he was in Pittsburgh shooting the Temptations mini series. He came into Originals - A pizza place near Pitt and I was so in shock I couldn't speak. I missed my chance to speak to him.

The Five Heartbeats is one of my favorite movies & one of the most quotable movies of all time. I never peeped why JT was upset in his hotel room & didn’t realize it was because Tanya was purchasing Duck. JT should have honest with Duck from the beginning about Tanya. Before this movie Michael Wright was on V: The Original Mini Series & he was also in The Principal. Leon was in All The Right Moves, Colors & Madonna’s Like A Prayer video, Choirboy played by Tico Wells was in The Mike Tyson movie on HBO, Flash played by John Canada Terrell always play ain’t shit characters. He quoted the line no my brother you got to buy your own on the BET r&b album commercial. He also wasn’t shit in She’s Gotta Have It & Def By Temptation. Bird played by Roy Fegan was in Hollywood Shuffle & I’m Gonna Git You Sucka. His son Roshon Fegan is an actor as well. One of the Midnight Falcons played by Jimmy Woodard was Myron in The Players Club. The MC also appeared on Sanford & Son & Good Times. Eddie’s mother played by the late Marilyn Coleman was on Good Times, & the movie Which Way Is Up with Richard Pryor. Eddie’s father was played by the late Paul Benjamin. He was in Across 110th Street, The Education Of Sonny Carson & Do The Right Thing. Here are some facts about this movie: Keenen Ivory Wayans was supposed to play JT, Damon Wayans was supposed to play Choir Boy, David Alan Grier was supposed to play Dresser & Vanessa Williams was supposed to play Brenda. A lot of actors & actresses who auditoned for the movie that didn’t make the cut are Don Cheadle, Nicey Nash, Cynthia Bailey, Tia & Tamara Mowry, George O. Gore II & a young R. Kelly.

Thank you for doing this!! My family has always been into movies, and I don’t remember if we saw this in the theater or not, but I remember that VHS tape. Me and my sister watched with my dad every weekend we went over to his place. He also had the soundtrack and we would sing it on road trips from Dallas to see his side of the family in Little Rock. We were spending time with him for his birthday a few months ago, and my sister pulled it up on steaming and we were riding and singing everything. One of my all time favorites. I knew every ad-lib you threw in there 😂. Please do Sparkle (the original) one day!!!

You made me want to watch this movie . So I did ! You never knew how many juicy detailed nuggets you miss when you watch it with adult eyes . I thought I knew this movie backwards and forward. But omg ! This movie is the epitome of excellence. 1. Eddie is the heart of the group . He brought the absolute best out of everyone…unintentionally. How he convinced Dresser not to go through with calling the doctor for Brenda to have the abortion and how he convinced Duck to talk to his brother JT after YEARS of not speaking. Although addiction consumed his life and almost took him out , he showcased the purest form of love and redemption out of all the group members.
