One problem with this is, Kaby lake (7th gen) and newer have BCLK limited to 102.7 MHz, and you can't go higher. With 6th gen, there was a bug that allowed it but you needed an old BIOS. Sandy and Ivy Bridge (2nd and 3rd gen respectively), typical stable limit is 103-106, Haswell (4th gen) is 106-108, cant say for 5th gen. I have overclocked on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th gen BCLK wise (several chips on each gen), so I can back those up.

From my knowledge you need a z board if you don't have a k series processor. If you have a k series a b or h series will do just check your vrms on the boards before buying and overclocking. Depends on the scenario. 60-75c is not bad for load temperatures, but if its running that hot at idle, then yes, revert back. I think BCLK overclocking only works on older chips where locked CPUs were not fully "locked" down. I have had several comments from people trying to do something similar with no luck. I am not 100% certain though if that is the case or if so what skew of CPUs are affected.

I have an i7 4790, and an overclocking gigabyte motherboard. I disabled turbo boost, and speed step because my bios did not have the button to do it for me, and I set the host clock to the the amount in the video. My first question is: is "Host Clock" the same as BCLk? I assume it is because it's default is also 100 and I can change it in increments of 0.01. After doing all of that my cpu acts the exact sameas before: boosting to 3.9, and dropping lower if more cores are utalised. Am I changing the wrong sttings, or is something else wrong?
@PCTechHustle4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are doing it right. Host clock is likely the BCLK as you mentioned. How much did you increase the BCLK/Host Clock. I have also heard some mixed results that some motherboards may not allow you to do what I did in this video on specific bios versions. I may have found a unicorn but I know some folks have been able to pull it off too.
