@@MagicPrepper A lot of people replace components just because they think they should or because the internet tells them to rather than because its actually needed. For example, people will tell you that you need to replace the springs in Glocks every so many thousand rounds. But there is a Glock 17 on display in Glock's Austrian factory with a certificate from the Hirtenberger company certifying that the gun was fired over 348,000 rounds and only had the recoil and firing pin springs replaced *once*. Eventually at 348,000 rounds of "endurance firing" the barrel cracked. The certificate on the pistol says if the barrel was replaced the gun would continue to function perfectly.

I broke the 20k round mark thru my BCM rifle with ELW - BFH, Barrel..(enhanced light weight/tapered & Hammer Forged).. The upper was purchased in 2015 and has never been "cleaned" only oil added.. And I think 3 times, I took the bcg out and wiped it with a microfiber cloth quickly.. My literal goal was to put 20k rounds thru a rifle and see if it was 100% without breaking anything.. It passed the test and is gonna keep going.. until failure of some sort.. In 20k rounds it has only had 3 malfunctions, all 3 came from the same box of ammo.. BCM rifles are a bargain for the quality of hammer your getting..

@chriscarnes872 күн бұрын
It’s not bs, there is still merit behind it. It just depends on the quality of the firearm and the parts. Can a quality AR DI power through? Yes Obviously, but so will a piston and it will run longer and cleaner. That is the whole point and intention behind a piston operating system. Which is exactly why every modern rifle outside the AR-15 is piston. Just look at what’s been reintroduced and is popular now….. The AR-180 platform which is piston.

If so then why is the “DI” AR-15 platform pretty much being replaced by the AR-180 platform? Which is also designed by Eugene Stoner, and is only gaining in popularity. And in terms of popularity (meaning the vast majority of all gas operated rifles), a piston opening system is better.
@jimmyjunk30932 күн бұрын
@@chriscarnes87 Depends on what you mean by "better." They're easier to clean and maintain, but are objectively worse in adverse environments. Same thing with the AR v. AK debate. AKs suck in mud. They get 1 shot then become bolt-action, but a DI AR will work flawlessly even when covered in mud with the dust cover open. DI ARs are lighter, more reliable in adverse conditions, but take quite a bit more work to clean, and will require cleaning more frequently which is not something easily overlooked by something like the Military Budget Committee. A piston system could go to 9200 rounds without a hitch.

@@chriscarnes87the main draw of the AR180 is the lack of a buffer
@chriscarnes872 күн бұрын
@@jimmyjunk3093 I wasn’t meaning “better” in terms of best, just that it’s the more popular operating systems for gas rifles. The DI AR being a tight tolerance “sealed” system is only reliable as long as stuff doesn’t get in the action. Which will stop it in its tracks. Is it harder for things to get in? Absolutely yes….But it’s also harder to get the stuff out (without disassembling and generally flushing it out). The AK is generally the opposite depending on the situation. There is a give and take with both systems.
@jimmyjunk30932 күн бұрын
@@chriscarnes87 I was mainly referring to the 'self-clearing/cleaning,' for the lack of a better term, effect of DI ARs. As the gasses are vented out of the bolt carrier they blast away debris from the ejection port. Piston ARs will stumble where DIs won't. Of course, as you said, there's a give and take. Don't try to shoot a DI AR underwater for example... And AKs are much more resistant to seizing up due to freezing.

The vcog looks great on that rifle.

I think it’s a testament to the rifles BCM builds.

After the 10k rds, definitely do a good clean and check everything. But keep going as is.

This would also be a good application for the Springfield Lev-AR charging handle.

Pat Rogers with Filthy14 was also quite educational.

The M-16 I was handed when I took an ROTC class lasted two rounds before it jammed. That was just the beginning of the horror of my introduction to this weapon system. Never could I get more than two or three rounds down range before it jammed again. My illusion of the iconic American assault rifle was shattered forever. I will never trust an AR platform after that experience.

10k cleaning change gas rings and buffer spring and run to another 10k or until you have a parts failure

Ejector, extractor and possibly other springs should be changed along with the barrel if muzzle and throat erosion are excessive..
