I personally still prefer the chaotic machine but still on perfect timing that Morgan Simpson is. Charlie Wayne have a complete other style, he seems kinda influenced by Moe Tucker from the velvet underground. Both are great drummers, i just wish that the drums weren't so loud in the mix of Snowglobes. If it was a little lower would be perfect.

Yep pretty much. I found this track in particular quite underwhelming when i first heard it because of how it sounded more like standard post rock than the other singles but eventually the more i listened to it, the more it slowly crept up on me and now i love it. God, this album is going to be so good.

I love the drums in this. They completely drown out the vocals, you keep anticipating it to join in with the guitars but they never do except for a few hits here and there, and then they just stop. It makes it sound like what Isaac is saying is just being obscured more and more even when he raises his voice, like there’s no chance for him to be heard. I absolutely love this song, possibly the best single yet. So excited for this album.

I purchased it back when it was just made available to preorder, having not listened to any of the new songs, just trusting in BCNR to make an amazing record, and it looks like that's exactly what they'll do. I love The Overload by Yard Act, and new albums by black midi, Dry Cleaning, Squid, etc., would be absolutely great, but so far Ants is the one that I just know I'll love the most. FTFT kind of defined my 2021 musically, and hopefully AFUT will do the same with my 2022 :-)

@@orgasmicorange1471 I absolutely love it. I've played it multiple times every day since its release and it never gets boring; there's not a single song that makes me want to skip it. The four singles were amazing, but I wasn't prepared for (most of) the non-singles to be even better. I could write a lot about it, but basically it's a 10/10 for me too and it'll be tough to beat as the 2022 AOTY. I'm glad you like it so much as well!

I would love to ask them who influenced them musically. My guess would be '70s Genesis. That would be a complement, not a slight (for those who don't understand). I love how the drums come in as distant thunder and lightning, taking over the sound scape with chaos; only to give it up to arpeggios and a calm return to the beginning. Conceptual, yet beautiful.

As an old guy, I perfectly understand your reference to Peter Gabriel era Genesis. Another good reference point is 154 era Wire, especially the epic "A Touching Display." Like "Snow Globes" you don't mind the very long intros because the payoff is splendidly worth it.

To paraphrase Michael Stipe of R E M, this song is a real gut spiller. Of course he said that in reference to the delicate sounding but emotionally raw "Perfect Circle ", but he could have just as easily been referring to "Snow Globes." To say that this song is intense would be like saying that the pope is Roman Catholic. This is like peeling the layers of an onion to somewhere way beyond its core. I surely hope Isaac isn't suffering for his art.
