+Stefan Terence I bought 2 pairs: Razors SL2, USD Carbon 15. It's because when I was young (I'm originally from Ukraine) I didn't have 200-300$ for Roces Majestic 13 or even to buy cheaper skates, life wasn't sweet back then. So now I decided to go hardcore and to buy 2 pairs :D And you know, it's so cool to skate again, my body wasn't ready I forgot most of the tricks I did but it all comes back now, I already did royale, top soul\acid, unity! :) So it;s never too late I think!

Was 13 or so back then, now 32 :) America and all the skaters were the no. 1 inspiration back then. Even got to meet Arlo, Matt Mantz and many more. Good memories.

As a skateboarder since '95 I've always had a great respect to rollerbladers just because they also liked doing a sport that wasn't football or basketball.Sadly blading started to decline and skateboarding got too mainstream that its hard to tell the kids that do it cuz its cool from the ones who just enjoy doing it.Hopefully blading comes back.

As an avid skateboarder, I greatly appreciate and enjoy watching inline skating. Its an awesome sport and I really hope the industry picks up. Anyone against it is just stupid and biased. Yeah, there may be less tricks, but they damn sure go bigger than skateboarders. In the end they are only doing the same thing you love to do, just different wheels.

I never realised people had so much animosity towards inline skating. To me it always seemed like a great way to take the elegance of figure-skating or the aggression of hockey-style skating off the ice. I have seen people skate on rollerblades as beautifully as if they were on ice, and that was my inspiration to try and learn it a bit. I can skate on my street any time, but I can't go ice-skate whenever and for however long I like.

+Captain N I owned the generations 7s a few years back. great skates and the newer versions are even better, with the exception of the liner, the older versions came with juggernaut liners. I switched to SSM.Bloodline 3s this year and tricked em out with red frames and red Ssm wheels. had to put the old JUG liner from my razors in because the SSM liner was utter shit. these skates are super smooth both rolling and grinding . they grind incredibly smooth. how are you liking your razors , and what are you skating ? I have a maybe 7 inch curb outside my house I play on with my son and skate the boxes at the park down the street. these days a disaster soul on the fun box is about as rad as I get. I seem to break and ache much easier. ate shit a few times this summer trying to progress to where I was in my prime. I try to get out a few times a month. still a great feeling that can't be beat.

havent rollerbladed for 3 years, went to the skatepark, 2 skaters and 2 bmxers looking at me after I pulled a unity 180 out on a 4 ft tall and bout 15 ft long hubba, faces like wtf is that!? Like theyve never seen a rollerblader do something dope before, it felt pretty awesome. plus I skateboard, ride bmx and downhill/freeride mtb, and snowboard. usually you go into a skatepark, skaters look at you funny, then you huck a 540 over an 8 stair and they change their faces like "well, that was sick, ok then" and thats about it. Ive never had problems rollerblading, alot of skaters think its pretty dope suprisingly and I live in san diego CA.

I remember being 7 or 8 in the mid 90s and seeing a kid rollerblading and being completely mesmerized. I eventually got a pair and spent so much time on them in my garage that I taught myself to skate. Fast forward a few years and I went to the rink for the first time and saw the inline hockey kids with their cool skates and coloured wheels and a seed was planted. As a teen in the early 2000s I took out my middle wheels and tried aggressive but copped shit from kids for skating around and my closest friends had never been on skates and just weren't keen. As a teen girl this chain of events drove me underground. I didn't want to skate outside let alone tell people I liked it. At about 19 I went to the skate shop and bought a pair of missions which had the heat mould able boot and i joined a beginner inline hockey team with a whole bunch of middle aged men. Life got in he way and I stopped. I am now 29 and teaching my 4yr old to skate and still Rollin on the missions, have recently discovered slalom freestyle and ordered a paring pow r slide try skates. the reaction from people has been overwhelming positive. Some of the young kids look at me like I'm an alien cruising on two mini UFO's. I am sad a let skating fall by the wayside for so many years, and I had no idea about the events described in this DoCo. explains why I copped shit as a teen well. Keep on Rollin'

How is rollerblading doing now as an industry (2019)? I always thought that the skateboarders hate rollerbladers thing was way overblown. I used to skateboard all day everyday as a kid. We rolled all around the city with a large crew filming tricks, causing mayhem, and having a good time. There were a few bladers that were part of our crew who got a lot of respect. Yeah we fucked with 'em and called them fruit booters and shit, but they were our boys and we would've had their backs if it came to it. Its all the same shit anyway, just different ways of doing it.

Damn i miss blading. I crushed my knee in 2010, didn't go to the hospital (something i really regret) fell into Gaming and Drugs for some years.. Bought a new pair of 2014 (I THINK?) Nils Jansons first Remz Pro model. And tried it again for some years, really i had to drink and take something to get the guts i used to have naturally, but not only that. My balance was not as it used to be, my (spens?) - I Couldn't jump as high as i used to be able to. That fucked up my motivation to be able to keep going...Also all my old blading friends had moved cities, and some countries, so it got really lonesome...I was also 2 weeks into a sponsorship from SkatePro, that fell apart with the knee. Makes me really wonder sometimes where i could have been now if i had just went to the hospital and did rehab for the knee.

Used to be doing it for almost a decade every day during the time of Coup De Tat and Mindgame films (98-2006). I've seen so many people coming and going during those years until I reached an age of not enough crazy or fit to blade with full intensity, also the fatigue that comes with learning pretty much all tricks possible upto a certain extent . Rollerblading is still alive, but I have not seen major evolution in style or approach in the last 10 years .

I threw them on immediately and went out to roll at 9:30 PM lol. It almost feels like, despite not rolling for so long, I have more courage to try things that the younger me never would have.

OK, I have a question for all the kids saying inline is "easy". Personally, I haven't skated in a few years but I used to compete at imyta, had a few edits and rode with some amazing skaters while I was involved in that scene. I also compete in amateur boxing, super sport motorcycle racing and snowboarding, So i dont really care what people think about 1 particular hobby of mine, just want feedback. Just because jumping with skates attached to your feet is easier than an ollie, does that mean everything on skates is easier than a board? All that means is that the level of intensity must be greater. What I mean is, The same year Hawk landed the first 900 and "changed the world", Shane Yost landed a 1260 and no one seemed to bat an eyelash. If something is easier initially, we are inclined to push it further, faster.

I see your point, idk I think in line died because I think once you reach a certain level you are pretty much peaked. there's nothing to progress to. you can only do so much. there isn't an endless bag of tricks.

Grew up in the country with dirt roads and dairy farms. So, never got to learn street or aggressive. But, rollerblading was cool back in the day. So, I was the first kid at our local rollerskating rink to ride on rollerblades in 1992. Now, 30 years later, I never stopped and still don’t know how to do tricks and stuff. Essentially I’m a speed skater. Totally not cool to anyone, especially at 40 years-old. But hey, I’m really good at speed skating, and my Siberian Husky loves that I can keep up with him for as fast and as long as he wants to run!

Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez Flaming kids who don't ride the same thing that you ride? Superiority complex because you reckon the thing you do is "cooler"? Hmm, starting to sound like a skateboarder! :D Doesn't matter what they're riding, kids are kids. If they're getting in peoples way or whatever, teach them instead of slating them. Most of them are nice, they'll listen and learn.

Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez I wouldn't know; I've never gotten into a fight for being a rollerblader - maybe because I'm 6'2"! I started blading in the 90's back when it was "cool" and I remember exactly the same complaints being leveled at blader kids. I'm 32 now, seen the sport rise and fall and come back again as an underground niche. Believe me, nearly everything you've said has been said before about skateboarders, bmx'ers, bladers, etc. etc. By now everyone should know how this whole wheeled-sport thing works and stop picking on whichever sport happens to be new at the time (especially skateboarders. Cut the crap, boarders, no-one cares any more). Scooters aren't my thing but I'm not gonna stop any kids doing - hell, maybe if I'm nice to 'em they'll pick up some blades when they outgrow their scooters!

I got into aggressive skating in the early 90's. We used to meet up in downtown on the weekends and be like 40+ deep. Anytime a new park would pop up, it was packed full of people. I was able to skate NISS, ASA, warp tour ect, during the height of the sport. Got to meet all the OG's and my Pro-tec was signed by everyone. Times were amazing and still one of the best times of my life, back then the only people I knew, that skateboarded, where potheads, that just used a skateboard as a way to get around. Adventures of Mr Mooseknuckle was one of my favorite flicks at the time. Sad where things have gone today.

I grew up in socal, sk8 surf snow, blade, ice they all complimented each other... but blading was easy to get incredible feelings, none of which I can describe to you, the lift off, the locking on, retracting of wheels, pure flight, landings as if on a planned runway, the feeling of the grind, even the shredded hands, knee's, and elbows.... Skates are like swords, I used to pray heaven was a giant skate park, and flight like superman was just as thrilling as it was in my dreams, a never ending series of ledges, rails, drop offs, and wall rides. Getting high just thinking about it..... Skate or die

I've heard many people say they love to watch people inline because of how fluid and amazing it looks, and those words have come mostly from skateboarders. hahah old days man, i remember we had 1 half pipe at a park with alot of tourists walking by. often when me and some friends were pulling runs out ppl stopped to watch and even applauded at occasions, we werent specificly pro or anything just decent some air grabs and backflip handplant stuff. it was a great feeling. once the run was over and we dropped out to take a break all these skateboarders went ahead, and even though comparable on the same level of expertise as our skating was on rollerblades. it looked so dull to the park tourists(kickflip attempts and regular 180 nose stalls etc) they NEVER kept on watching. just had that expression on their face like.. yeah show is over lets move along. thats what i always loved about rollerblading, the tricks are huge, your air is huge and it always gave me a much much greater feeling of adrenaline then nailing a kickflip or any sort of flip on a skateboard (wich in itself was hard enough aswell haha)

Matt Sezer dude skaters didn’t hate Inline. I actually dealt with the issue in hockey too. Sponsors and manufacturers hated inline because the sport was dominated by ski companies with 50 years of boot technology and monopoly brand Rollerblade. They couldn’t get theirs like they could like BMX and Skateboarding which for a while had ubiquitous quality and lack of mega brands. Until they did like BMX companies getting merged into mega companies in the 80s and look their sport almost died. The same with hockey the big brands CCM and Bauer couldn’t shit out their overpriced hockey gear for inline because it would break. Instead Mission, Tour, and Black Biscuit made inline ready gear that perfect. Instead of competing they just told everyone it ruins your ice game and should be avoided. Even though they spent 20 years using it as summer training tool. When inline wouldn’t die, CCM made a elite level skate and it sold out. They realize the sport needed CCMs technology, but not its attitude.

The problem with aggressive inline's image, and I say this as an inline skater myself, is that the sport initially attracted the worst kinds of people: bullies, thugs, and trash. Look at the foul mouthed, aggressive people featured at the beginning of this video. Look at Senate's "destroy all girls" t-shirts. For these people they were trying to make an image rather than grow and honor the sport. Modern inline skating groups have done a great job cleaning up the sport's image. We have kind, positive role models for the younger generation, and it's no longer defined by angsty male teenagers and manchildren who feel they have something to prove.

DavidSkis I agree. All of my friends and I skated back in 1996. We were kind of like a gang demolishing shit getting in trouble with every cop in town. We didn’t care. We felt invincible.

i was thinking this same thing while watching. its jawdropping how they could talk abt being ostracized and discriminated while using homophobic and mysoginistic slurs

Senate litteraly was " angry youth ", we outgrew that into the thug era, and now we are where we are I king for the angry youth days again

A good marketing approach is to market inline skating to the MASSES as a great way to exercise if you don't want to kill your knees and joints running, a great way to exercise by yourself and with friends, a great and easy mode of transportation, and if you have the chops, then to do tricks and aggressive skating, and competition. Or you can do INLINE HOCKEY.

Support AnimalRights You do know that a big reason why inline skating fell of the map is because ice hockey manufactures. Like skateboarding manufactures, many did not jump into the scene fast enough to push out crossover products. They lagged behind against the establish alternative companies like Mission, V-form, Tour, Black Biscuit, ect. Notice all the sub-culture style names? So, hockey companies, like the old skateboarder companies, went on a crusade(if you're from the North East, Canada, Michigan, and Minnesota) you would be more familiar with this, like people from Cali, Florida, ect saw with the skateboarder backlash. To destroy roller hockey, but not the sport, the companies. They knew they could not stop people from the convenience and price point of roller hockey. It was a growing sport, they wanted their piece. They went full force in claiming the gear hurt your ice hockey game, that it wasn't a good alternative to Ice, the gear was junk, or not designed with "real" hockey in mind. Well guess who could make "real" gear! Bauer, CCM, Nike, and Cooper! The big name, full ice hockey price point companies could! Without the step in appeal from inline hockey and the tech money, roller blades became specialized. Which is good for pros, but it was bad for newbies. I like at the end that they showed that companies have realized this and make entry level skates again. TBH, skateboarding wanted inline dead, because they wanted to make sure crossover appeal and sponsors would never ever leave their decks.

The most tragic part about all this is bladers are still underground. This is an awesome sport with so much style, skill and bravery involved, with a short but established history. Enough of a history for us to have absolute legends like Morales, Broskow, Shima, Farmer, Haffey, Aragon, Murda, the Yasutoko bros, Da Silva, Stockwell and many others to look up to. Meanwhile fully grown men riding around on their child's scooters are creeping into the X Games.
