The reason that 3x5 shape looks pleasing might be because it's close to the Golden Ratio which shows up everywhere in nature! Other good ratios that fit the bill are 5x8, 8x13, and 13x21 😁

That was my thought too. The golden ratio and the Fibonacci numbers make for some very pleasant shapes. You can take it further for things like towers by going more than one step in the Fibonacci series. E.g. 5×13 or 8×21.

To help with the tree on the cliff affecting the size of the cliff, it could be useful to try using birch leaves and glow lichen. This will create a blue/white tint to the leaves helping to blend them into the background and improve the sense of depth by pushing the tree further into the background.

Also I have a tip if you want to build like Bdubs. I want this to sink in btw; As long as you have a vivid image in your head or a drawing of what you want, you have to put in time and dedication to your build. Add really small details and focus on one thing at a time. And it doesnt have to be perfect and most of the time, it wont! But you have to improvise and inprove your build as you flow with it.

The first cliff was a "fantasy" cliff that is purely a sweeping are form. The second cliff is a much more realistic cliff that you could actually visit. Although it could use multiple stone types and a pile of debris at its base to represent all the rocks knocked off it by frost and other weathering.

2 things..first I get what you’re saying about the change to the mountain cliff. Though I was a fan of the first version and noted that it was reminded me of Lion King, it was that very thing that made it a bit less “natural”. I like the change a lot, and wonder if adding water will help cement in your mind the form that fits your vision. Second, you’re a great teacher. Remember that people learn in different ways...some by step by step instruction, others by following your lead, and others by listening to you work through the process. My friend, you’ve been and continue to be a phenomenal teacher. Well done!!

I remember an episode of building with bdoubleo, a long time ago, when you were unsure about all the detail you put in to a castle or tower that you were building back then. Sounds like you're feeling the same way about it as back then, unsure if it's the right way to go. Anyway, I thought your building skills were amazing back then, but now I'm even more impressed! You keep improving, and I really admire that.

Honestly Bdubs, in terms of your terrain generation (your cliff), looking into how geology shapes a landscape might be very useful. That kind of cliff wouldn't appear out of nowhere in the real world, and I think that's why it registers as "wrong". In my opinion; the new shape is much better, but it needs a river that carved out the rock and created that cliff, or big boulders at the bottom that fell off, and more similar shaped mountains/hills in the area (although I understand that that would be *a lot* of work).

It's pretty amazing how texturing can bring the build to life. I wasn't sure why you weren't happy with the cliff until you changed it and wow it looks even better. 💕

It's crazy to me that considering how hard I avoid ads in all other forms, how much I actually look forward to a good Bdubs ad. Well done sir.

Bdubs, this is phenomenal! The way you keep discovering new techniques is truly inspiring, and the effects are stunning! I bet the bigger MC community will start playing around with this method soon.

Bdubs is so good at building that he made a temporary basalt generator look like it’s apart of the building. He might just be the best Minecraft builder ever!

For all that the texturing really makes the build stand out, my one complaint is the utter flatness of the roof at the front. It just seems like a faux-pas to leave a roof without a lip extending over the edge of the front facade. At least to me.

absolutely, as awesome the fake-shadows may look a roof overhang would help so much

Yeah, i feel like actual texture has been replaced by faking texture. Missing stupid amounts of trap doors

I think he wanted to demonstrate the power of using light and dark textures on a flat shape. I am betting he is fully aware that the roof should extend, maybe just didn’t think to say it out loud. You won’t typically see this flatness in his builds. But considering the title and topic of this lesson, it makes sense to me that he did it just this once.

Instead of complaint I personally would say suggestion is more respectful to a creator after all at the end of the day it's their creation and vision not ours.
