Ikr! 🤬 It does make me super grateful my parents didn't post pics of me when I was in the hospital at age 5 with a serious disease; I definitely looked pathetic -- I was tiny for my age and had a huge bandage after surgery. Parents need to be careful what pictures they post. 🙏🏽 Also it (unintentionally) proves the scammer is in a third-world country -- asking for money _for the child's hospital food_ -- where things like food aren't routinely provided as part of hospitalization, like they are in developed countries.

Same thing with steam and all these other services. person get phished, then they try to phish every account on the friends list, rinse and repeat.. You'd be shocked how many people clock the shit and will even sign in on the page and find out they got phished and do nothing. On some level its that persons fault everyone connected to them also got hacked justg because that first person doesnt value their account. Specifically with steam people lose thousands to millions of dollars worth of games. It happened to my steam account once luckily everyone I was friends with was smart not to click it, and after all that all they did was play PUBG til Valve got my account back.. Them not trying to sell it immediately was very dumb on their part as I was going to get it back regardless because I could prove who I was.

I’ll add to this video; we were looking at an item that was priced realistically, but would have been about an hour’s drive. The seller provided an address, but then wanted a deposit because of so many inquiries. When they provided the link (Venmo) it wasn’t their name, and when asked, said it was their sister. We looked further into the accounts (many Venmo purchases are public) and the seller’s Facebook account was brand new, and the Venmo account had limited transactions. The address provided seemed to be an actual address We passed on the item and reported the Marketplace listing; similar adds with the same photos and information started showing up everywhere. Our guess is there are a lot of people who send a deposit: and had the accounts been set up a little better, we might have been fooled, too. That all said, cash is king in Facebook marketplace if you are going to buy in person-and a deposit should never be necessary.

The Facebook scam I tend to get the most where I am, is where they set up fake accounts of real people, and send out Friend requests to all the real person's friends, hoping to draw them into some get-rich-quick scheme. For this reason, nowadays when I get a Friend request from someone I'm already Friends with, I check up with the real person to see if the request was genuine. If - as is most often the case - it wasn't genuine, I proceed to tell the perpetrator exactly what I think of them, no holds barred. The annoying part is, Facebook had the cheek to reprimand me for telling thieving bar stewards the truth about themselves. I don't get it: I'M being reprimanded for doing exactly what Facebook SHOULD be doing!?!?

Those "passing away of a ....." been on OfferUp, Craig and Marketplace for a while now, but hopefully most are deterred by very bad grammar and hard to understand English, they also use certain keywords that people from US won't use. It involves both the selling and buying side and all I can suggest is whenever it looks to good to be true then just walk away and don't let greed give you a hope that you're getting a deal of a lifetime.

Can't tell from area codes where cell phone calls originate in the US.. My golfing buddy's cell phone has an Ohio area code but lives in AZ. Landline calls however, are tied to actual area locations. But when I receive a phone call, I don't know if it's cell or landline. But I do know it's a scammer by the long delay between my "Hello", a delay, then a short "beep" then another delay until the other party answers with a very heavy accent. That's an indication that their autodialer is making the call.

So, I am an older guy, and not very savvy when it comes to social media. I just started a Facebook profile to promote my art, which is not doing anything. I have some things I would like to sell and I see that there is a market place, but people have said to me, "you have to beware of scammers". After watching your video, I am impressed with what you were able to do, but I am dumbfounded as to what I should do. Back in the 60's and 70's, if you wanted to sell something, you put a notice in the classifieds. Never had to worry about giving out your phone number or address, or had to worry that someone was going to come to your house and rob you. I can't keep up with the stuff that goes on these days, I realize it is common place for all the young people, for me it is sad and depressing to see how life is evolving.

My mom bought a sewing machine from Facebook during the height of Covid 19. She used PayPal thinking she would be safe on a $200+ transaction.
