Great video. I don't know that I would call it a scam per-se. My main reasoning is because you are actually getting something of value at the end of it. Maybe it's not worth the price you pay but you are getting something out of it. However, the practice is shady AF. The scammers here are essentially acting as brokers. They find small businesses and say "hey, for $XX I can give you a bunch of leads" and then they infiltrate social media and use deceitful methods. It is an interesting "business" and it is super dishonest.

Yeah, it seems pretty sketchy that they're banking on others feeling sorry for them and pretending to be a different company with better ratings and more history

Yeah, you just described a scam
@jasonsmith275910 ай бұрын
@@Gandingas maybe. I usually describe a scam as getting something of no value back. You are getting a car detailing service, just the way i which it occurs is incredibly sketch
@WaynesWorld99910 ай бұрын
I have said exactly the same. Not a scam perse, but very immoral and dishonest.

When the advertisement is lying about the situation and is using a fake name and is orchestrating it from another country and has like a 900% mark up rather than just 20-30% this is absolutely a scam.

Near where I live there is a big hospital with lots of doctor's consulting rooms too. Some young adults have set up a business offering car washing for a very reasonable fee while you go to your appointment. They do a great job and I always get my car washed when I see my doc even if it isn't needed, because I love supporting honest small businesses.

The lesson I learned from watching this is, if some random guy in Pakistan can solicit a cleaning job in Utah to be completed by an "employee" that he doesn't even know and essentially earn $95 for just typing a few messages, then there is absolutely ZERO EXCUSE for anyone claiming they can't make money. Just, amazing!!

190 is actually pretty good for detailing, my mom usually paid about 200 just for a deep clean of her car’s interior including tip

Read today in the daily mail news paper about a guy selling his car on fb market place somebody really keen rang up asking for details address etc and made an appointment to view it. He did not show up but the car was stolen the next day. Apparently its become common practice in the UK most are mid price cars mostly broken for spare parts and sold on ebay etc

Wow, I thought this was a FL thing in my area, this scam has been HORRABLE to my small detailing business, almost NO leads from FB. Most FB groups are now just getting that these posts are scams. hopefully this changes soon! Thank you for showing this off because this has been ROUGH in central FL area.

What's really going on here is that Facebook knows that it's the preferred medium for scammers of all types, and it will do anything it can to facilitate that.

I've seen various versions of this scam offering house cleaning, carpet & upholstery cleaning, web design, and graphic design some of them automatically block you if you comment the word "scam" others turn off commenting so you can't even warn people. I've started posting an image saying "it's a scam" instead of commenting.

Unfortunately this happens. I've had pretty well the same thing happen but with house cleaners. The call centre is in india and they pretend to be local. They have a person in Australia (where I am) for the ABN (Australian business number) . They promise the world but always seem to fail. They've got plenty of fake reviews (1 gets posted every 10 or so bad reviews). They get you to agree to a contract (very wordy one at that) and then hire someone else who does a half assed job (do about 1 hours cleaning and charge you for 5 hours cleaning for 3 - 4 hours of work). The clean ended up costing me about 150% of the price the real estate recommended cleaner would have charged (paying the bad cleaners, cleaning some up myself afterwards and then hiring the real estate recommended ones to finish the job)

I think it may be as simple as people who have no idea how to run an honest business learning their marketing and management skills from scammers. Like a grocery store run by an ex armed robber who thinks it's normal to demand payment for your produce at gunpoint.

So interesting. I’ve owned a detailing company for 11 years here in Utah. I’ve just started to see these types of fb posts. I thought they were strange

I wonder if this is tied to car theft or catalytic converters. If the make and model you tell them is highly desirable, they take the address and send someone "early" to get it. If the car is not on the list, the backup detailing scam continues. Just a thought. Many scammers are running several scams simultaneously

am i out of touch with the economy? I am a detailer and I charge around $300-500 depending on the size of the vehicle. Obviously this is for a whole car detail and it includes a temporary ceramic coat spray. But I also have an option for full ceramic coating but that's not as popular. And not many complain about the prices, in fact they find it more surprising that I charge less than the others they got quoted on.
@yammert471510 ай бұрын
nah, agreed. I think maybe he was being sarcastic about 190 being kinda high? especially with a full polish, if you get the plastic restoration stuff. I feel like all that could easily be 4-6 hours of work. $300 to $500 seems perfectly reasonable to me

I see these all the time and don’t hesitate to call them out as scammers on Facebook. I call out the fake job posts as well. I once asked on Facebook “is car detailing the new scam? I am part of a team of scam baiters and I do not mind pointing out a scam when I see it and to alert other readers. When I have pointed out scammers on KZbin, the scammers have reported my comment and KZbin removed them.

It has been one of the biggest scams as well as the scam selling air filters you can wash. I call them continually dirty. It's more important to vacuum out the intake space and replace the filter every month even if its the cheap fibrolase filters. So much can be cleaned up with just the vacuum, rags, a little soap and water.
