After the death of our youngest son by suicide I was very lost. I lost my faith ..God was so distant. I was a Protestant in a Protestant church and after his funeral it was like everything was over. Some even felt our son was now in hell. I stopped going to church but missed it and my relationship with my Lord so I began looking and my reading and studying brought me to the Orthodox Church. I found a deep liturgical worship that was healing and found a loving merciful God. I found a place that said I could pray for my son and that he was in God's hands. I became an orthodox Christian four years ago and now my husband became a catechumn last week... Answered prayer. Peace. Mercy. Love.

I am an Orthodox Christian who converted from Evangelical Protestantism. Growing up as a Protestant, I used to wonder what happened after the events written about in the bible; no one talked about it. I was elated when I found the Orthodox Church, THE ONE Church that existed continually from the time of the apostles. Rather than wondering which one of the thousands of different interpretations of the bible to believe within Protestantism, I now had THE ONE interpretation of Christian belief and worship passed down from the time of the apostles. Moving from Protestantism to Orthodoxy is almost like watching a 2D movie, then watching a 3D version of the same movie. Instead of just hearing about the faith, through Orthodoxy, we get to LIVE the faith. We get to taste, smell, see, hear, and touch Christ in everything we do, and that is amazing!

mansublime Though I differ from your early background(I was raised Roman Catholic and spent decades of my adult life in the Episcopal Church), my reasons for becoming an Orthodox Christian are very similar to yours. I did not even know the Orthodox Church existed until I was searching on the internet for the “Church’s opinion” on reiki. I landed on a blog written by an Orthodox Christian. I wondered what on earth was an Orthodox Christian. That lead to me researching and learning about the Orthodox Church. The more I learned, the more I realized, as you did, that the Orthodox Church is the only church with an unbroken connection to the original Apostles. You describe the experience of the living church so beautifully and far better than I could.

@@ΓιαννηςΜπουρεκας-π6μ Hi😊 The oriental Orthodox (Copts, Ethiopians etc) and the Eastern (Greek, Russian...) Churches are absolutely nothing different from each other, despite the illusions. Tell me the difference between those two statements: "Christ (the one person) is in two natures" "Christ (the one person) is of two natures" The two churches separated for cultural, PURELY POLITICAL reasons related to the imperial diadems at the time and linguistical reasons. They didn't actually split over a latent difference that exists, but over a.. preposition? is that believable to you? The Council of Chalcedon 451 AD was politically forced to state the preposition "in" which was only a bit foreign to the some other Orthodox Churches (oriental: Ethiopians, Armenians, Syrians, especially Copts, as it psychologically reminded them of nestorianism and arianism which their church of Alexandria conquered after many, many endless afflictions and exiles) Although the two hold the same beliefs of Saint Cyril the Great.. The oriental Orthodox Church *_thought_* the council is deviating from saint Cyril's doctrines on the nature of Christ due to linguistical differences In latter times of development of communication, the two churches met.. And found NO ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE at the heart of their beliefs in the natures of Christ, it was even documented in a BOOK called "the story of the Coptic Church" page 100 written by Iris Habib Elmasry that there's no difference between the two churches regarding Christology in the council, and absolutely no other difference! Even Macarius the Great was an Egyptian.. And St Moses the strong (Ethiopian) etc .., St Mary of Egypt.. I know of some Oriental Orthodox bishops that got shocked when they PROPERLY checked what the council actually states: "The council of Chalcedon, the fourth ecumenical council, dealt primarily with Christology, and elucidated the Orthodox definition of Christ's being as the HYPOSTATIC UNION of two natures, divine and human, United in One Person, "with neither confusion nor division" This is exactly what the oriental churches believe... So what difference are they speaking of? This is a sad illusion I can safely say "This is the interference of the DEVIL" There's still not an official unification between the churches despite the inexistent differences... "Oriental" is synonymous with "eastern" They both mean "of the East" I can also safely say that I'm both eastern and oriental Orthodox!

@@justinaacuriouswanderer1496 When the split happened and the now-called Orientals withdrew from now-called Eastern Orthodox, they did so over real and substantive differences in Christology (monophysitism vs diaphysitism). To say it was merely a matter of misunderstood semantic or linguistic differences implies neither group adequately knew their languages and theology better than we do today. To be sure, in some of their discourses there were fundamental disagreements on words and their definitions, and how they were being used by the different parties, to the effect that some of the key players were "talking past" each other. But still, the theological differences were real and substantive. Dioscorus and Severus, misunderstanding how the others were using "hypostasis" (and especially how St. Leo used "form," being Latin) caused them to believe the diaphysites were endorsing Nestorianism (which they weren't). In response, they over-corrected by overemphasizing the oneness of Christ Jesus (monophysitism) and anathematizing St. Cyril of Alexandria's later pro-Chalcedonian, diaphysite writings, accusing him of having caved in his Orthodoxy. I am persuaded, however, that that's no longer the case. By that, I mean that I think the specifically monophysite Christology championed by Dioscorus and Severus has gradually fallen out of favor in the Oriental churches and that the Orientals have come to a more properly Cyrillic/Orthodox miaphysite Christology. Indeed, the Fifth Ecumenical Council tried but failed to reconcile the Chalcedonians and non-Chalcedonians by clarifying just that: an Orthodox miaphysite expression of Christology that was compatible with Chalcedon's diaphysite expression. It didn't work, though. But that is mostly because the two groups had ceased communicating, especially around the time of St. Maximos the Confessor, who further expounded these clarifications. I have heard it said that even Pope Shenouda III admitted he would accept Chalcedon as Ecumenical so long as it was understood in light of Second Constantinople (Fifth Ecumenical). And I think that's the key to reunion: The Orientals must synodically accept Chalcedon, but they also can clarify that they do so by interpreting it through the miaphysite formulation of Second Constantinople. It's my hope and prayer that one day this happens, so the Eastern and Oriental Churches finally can be reunited at last.

I think maybe because he has encountered many Orientals who have since sympathized with Chalcedon, and maybe lots more, that he concluded the way he did. What got me was when he said, "The Council of Chalcedon was politically forced to state the preposition "in!" That statement let me know that he doesn't have a deep understanding of The Role of The Holy Spirit in the Councils Who was affecting Truth for the Church: giving The Church a Common Mind about God: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit and to receive what was judged and ruled was to receive an Orthodox Mind of The Same. To reject it was to reject The Holy Spirit who Superintended the meetings. So, The First Canon ever etched at The Council of Jerusalem says in Acts 15:28, "For it seemed good to The Holly Spirit, and to us to lay no greater burden on you than these necessary things;....etc." Christ is Head of The Church His Body and The Trinity was at work in The Councils Amen!!

God bless you. I was born into an Orthodox family in an Orthodox nation (Serbia), and only recently have discovered how many people are converting. It's simply marvelous. Being surrounded by Orthodox Christians gave me the impression that people knew about us, but hated us, so it was a common reaction to just tell non-orthodox to bugger off and be heretical somewhere else. Once I realised it was mostly that people in the West don't know about us and see us as weird bearded guys in black robes who chant, and I had no idea how foreign that is to westerners. This has brought me great joy and inspired me to evangelise personally, and it's a wonderful blessing to see converts like you, with your own experiences, who are preaching Christ's Church. There is no Eastern and Oriental Orthodox. There is only Holy Orthodoxy. I’m Greek Orthodox who loves Pope Shenouda and Pope Kyrillos. The best Bishop is Angaelos of the UK. I guess I’m Copt spiritually in Greek clothing 😆 May one day soon we’ll be unified. I always say “When we get to Paradise the Lord isn’t going to ask which church we went to!

I converted to the faith when I was eleven, there was a moment I was looking up at the churches icons during the Easter service. And everything just click for me in that moment- the Beautiful smelling incense, the chanting, the candles light glowing in the night, the glow of the icon, the feeling of my heart being full. It was beautiful and in that moment I decided to convert, even as a child I knew I was experiencing something beautiful. Now years later I’m stead fast in the faith and still learning so much about the church history.

My humble perspective on being Eastern Orthodox: we have been Saved, we are being Saved, and we are yet to be Saved... and when we become cognizant of the magnitude, that is the un-earnable Gift, we instinctively and increasingly become aware of the great responsibility that acceptance of such a Gift actually is. Thereafter, with one enlightenment begetting another...we go beyond acceptance, and subsequently we fully embrace a state of synergy with God, and enter into it with all confidence, knowing that as we drink from the cup our thirsts will begin to subside, as they make way for a deeper understanding of the illuminated Path set by our Lord🙏🏽

Thank you, Steve and Fr. Andrew. I converted from the Lutheran church about two and a half years ago. I've grappled with this same question myself, either when I'm asked or just when I start thinking about where I am in my life right now. The interesting thing about Orthodoxy is that it's quite difficult to say in just one quick bit why we're Orthodox. That's because our faith is so deep, because it's based on the endless love of God! If I had to say why I'm Orthodox, it's because I know that the Church has preserved the fullness of the teachings of the Prophets, Apostles, Holy Martyrs, and of course, Our Lord. Being Orthodox is a struggle in the USA, but we have a beautiful opportunity to bring others home to Christ's Church. Christ is Risen! +

I've also watched this EO lecture on the Reformation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn-yY2yHadWjjs0 It fascinates me, studying church history and hearing from the traditions born from it that the EO christology shows what I read as the teachings Luther and Chemnitz sought to return to. There appears so much unity regarding teaching, but then unfortunately papal and episcopal abuses, and the incursions of the Turks, Calvinists and the enlightenment have taken away much as well. The division pains me, yet the Spirit in His wisdom has placed me here to serve. I'll have a look at your recommendation, yet too often I think we talk past each other, even more when we used Saxon/Latin and Greek (high theology doesn't translate well sometimes). Christ's grace and peace be with you, and continue to work through you.

I am an Orthodox Christian because I believe in God the Father, and believe that His Son, Jesus Christ, became incarnate in the world and would not have left us alone, but for our salvation and sanctification, He left us an actual church that has been guided and protected by the Holy Spirit. I believe this church is the Orthodox Church. I first believed this for historical reasons, but now I believe this because as I have tried to live the life proscribed by the church, I have grown spiritually and have put away worldly things I never would have believed I could put away. However, there is a mystical quality to this life and it's impossible for me to put into words why I am an Orthodox Christian. I believe it's God's mercy that has led me here, and because it's so unpopular and difficult, it is only by His grace that I can continue. Thank you for your support for the less than 1% of us who call ourselves Orthodox Christians.

When the Ethiopian eunuch was reading Scripture in the Book of Acts, he had the good sense to ask the Church to help him understand what he was reading.

The church is not a mere building yes o agree it’s the true Christians which are also known as the body of Christ. However the Orthodox Church is not the true church because as I stated in my previous comment, it has flaws and and heresies when comparing it to the bible. I read the bible as it is, I don’t make my own opinion out of it, there’s nothing that you can say that will justify the actions of the Orthodox Church, because GODS words disagrees And I stated the doctrines and deeds in my other comment.

@@christos8418 The story of the Ethiopian eunuch directly contradicts this. As does the Scripture itself: Luke tells us that Jesus opened the Scripture to His disciples. The Church predates the Bible (the earliest NT book dates to at least 20 years after Jesus). The Church wrote the Bible. The Church determined what books comprise the Bible. So you can't create a false dichotomy between Bible and Church.

Yes, I am often the only Orthodox anyone has met. One young Roman Catholic man asked me about my cross and if I was, "Catholic." I said, "I am an Orthodox Christian." He replied in awe, "Wow! I've never actually met one of you!" 😂 It's amazing, however, of the 5 people who work at the Costco gas station with me two of us are Orthodox. Myself, who was raised Protestant, and one of my co-workers who is Greek and has always been Orthodox. Together we have both learned a lot about the Church.

One final step in your learning: The Catholic Chruch is the true Church of God. The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church was founded on Peter the rock (bishop of Rome) and NOT St Andrew (bishop of Constantinople). The Church of Rome is the True Church.

The west is not the best in fact they are going through quite the problems right now so stop coming over to Orthodox channels that give a most cogent argument for why The Orthodox Church (the other 4 Patriarchs) are the real and True Church especially the One that didn't go through a "dark ages, " or Protestant Reformation. Protestantism was birthed from the Egg that Rome laid. Think about this....do you find it funny that the Pope audaciously sent delegates to Constantinople with a note he etched that was then stamped onto the doors of the Church in trying to show some ahistorical authority over all the Church with a laughable ex-communication of The Patriarch of Constantinople? Then in 1517 from within the the Roman Church a group of delegates arose and stamped a Ninety-Five Thesis on the doors of the Basilica? That right there is FUUUUUUUNNY!!!! Yeah...the West is the best. Right now the West is The Mess. Pachamama, Popes constantly having world religion summits (John Paul II did it too, he even kissed a Qu'ran) that includes every other religion joining in all at once praying to their pagan gods in a circle and it's called blessed. Yeah... The West is the best.

I too am in the process of my Catechumen phase in the Orthodox Church. After coming home here, and through all my studies with the Orthodox Church, Jesus Christ teachings and understanding them better, the Desert Fathers, and their wisdom, there is no turning back to any other church again. There is nowhere else I would rather be.This is the real church God meant for us to BE. Orthodoxy is a way of life and that way of life is following Jesus and doing what he instructs us to do, taking his teachings seriously in our lives in a way that is gentle but so real that the Holy Spirit shows you the truth that you cannot denye. We all live with some great sorrows in our lives, but It is good to know, that we are all in this together , and we don't have to journey alone. We can have Jesus in the boat with us always, as long as we invite him in and trust and believe him and the scriptures, and along side the church.

I became orthodox as it was the only church which was true to and connected with he Church I found in my study of Early Church history. Once I started attending an Orthodox Parish I encountered Christ and there was no way after that I was going to leave the church since I could say with Peter, "Lord to whom else can I go? you have the words of eternal life. We have believed and come to know, you are the Holy one of God" (John, 6,68-9)

A friend of mine who was raised in the Protestant churches and baptized in the Orthodox Church(he insisted on getting baptized) says that the holy sacrament of Confession is one of the best things he ever did. It certainly takes guts to do so, but it is so worth it.

Another great video. I'm 5 months into actively engaging in the Church, but I didn't convert from anything. Probably the best description would have been agnostic. Looking back now, I think it's because Christianity just didn't make any sense in light of what I was seeing around me that was considered Christian. A year or so ago my wife (who grew up Catholic) asked me if I would be interested in going to a church....she didn't have anything particular in mind....other than not catholic. I told her I would do some research, which I did. Since I didn't grow up in any particular tradition I was a semi-blank slate. The Orthodox Church was something I only had a VERY vague idea about. In my research I came across Steve's videos and they definitely played a part in my journey towards Orthodoxy (Steve...you helped bring an agnostic/atheist ti the Church!). Father Andrew's video's played a part as well.....I've since read all of his books. I've found, for me at least, that Christianity only makes sense through the lens of Orthodoxy, which is the biggest reason I would say that I'm Orthodox. The Church showed me that God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit are real...that Jesus was fully divine and fully human and that he truly has risen. Anyhow, since this is all new to me...I really don't discuss it with anyone. Since it's so uncommon here, other than the local Greek parish, people just view Orthodox as a Greek thing....like a weird Greek catholic church. Long story short.....this video gave voice to some of the reasons why I'm on this journey.

I have been considering and studying Orthodoxy on and off for a couple of years now. I was Catholic as a child, agnostic as a teenager, and encountered the Lord at 24 years old (1981). I have studied and experienced many "paths" since, but mainly non-denominational Christianity. In these last two years or so I have visited a local Eastern Orthodox church and have had occasion to speak with the priest, and have studied a variety of Orthodox resources. There are times I am excited about possibly becoming Orthodox, and other times not so much. The adventure continues...

It is a common view in America, due to its geography and history, that Orthodox are either unknown, or seen as "Catholics with beards". There are critical differences. The Orthodox Church does not preach purgatory. We don't view Original sin in the same way. In the Catholic view, we inherit the guilt of Adam's som, in the Orthodox view, we inherit the conesequences of Adam's sin. Ecclesiologically, we don't see any bishop as supreme. We have patriarchs, who are administrative heads, but the Church is governed by a synod (council) of bishops, headed by the patriarch, in accordance with Church history. The entire notion that the bishop of Rome is infallible is an innovation. In the first millennium he was the first bishop, but he had primacy, not supremacy. The Second Vatican Council was far from being the first innovation of Rome, but it was one very visible to Catholics. That's why Catholic traditionalists relish the Tridentine mass, estsblished in the late 16th century, but the most common liturgy in the Orthodox Church is that of Saint John Chrysostom, from the 4th century. The most recent one is that of St. John of Damascus, from the 8th century. The Orthodox Church has remained true to tradition, even though, or perhaps because, we don't have a pope-like figure. Because of the nature of the Papacy and the accompanying dogma of infallibility, it is extremely difficult for Roman Catholics to see the Pope as being in heresy. Yet in some circles, there has been a lot of mumbling about the Pope actually being in heresy - some of that mumbling has actually been quite loud. But I don't think that it will actually go anywhere because of the ingrained belief of Roman Catholics in regard to the Papacy. They will continue to seek solace in the Tridentine liturgy but not openly rebel - because then they'll be sen as Protestants - God forbid. -Actually the previous liturgy before Trent was that of a Pope Leo (?) which I believe went back to the 800s. What liturgy existed in the Western church previously, I am not sure. I would appreciate correction or clarification on this matter.

Here's what Paul wrote: "For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. " (1 Corinthians 4:15) Paul is calling himself the father of the Corinthians: he's saying he has "begotten them through the gospel." This is in Scripture for a reason. It's not that Paul said one thing, and Jesus another. It's that we have to understand what Jesus was actually saying.

I would like to be orthodox, feel much respect about the history, love the chants and martyr examples.The mystic and teachings of the fathers too, and sometimes i see the liturgys. On the other hand its hard to accept or handle things like the veneration of the theotokos and saints or the images, the great barrier for the protestants i think. Thanks for the work you do! Peace!

Yorsh Peric that’s me! I watched a video the other day about Mount Athos, and one of the monks prayed to Mary for his salvation. I just don’t see that at all - but would be happy to honour the Theotokos as I think we should. Drawing the line at asking Mary for salvation is difficult enough, but I also struggle with the idea that the saints can hear my prayers as though they are omnipotent. My heart is crying out that Orthodoxy is true, but my head is screaming back in opposition. 😳

I grew up protestant so I understand your feelings about saints and Mary..the Theotokos. I had a lot of Roman Catholic family so it wasn't so foreign to me. The deacon who taught the inquiry class when I started said it is a journey not an ending when you become orthodox and there may be things you don't understand or accept right now but being open and willing to learn. After four years I am now reading and working on my relationship with our Lord Jesus's mother. And wouldn't Jesus whom we love so much be pleased that we honor and love His mother? Once I learned that we are not separated from the great cloud of witnesses it has become very easy to ask for their intercession...we ask for others here on earth to pray for us..why not those in heaven? It's funny.....since I didn't have any particular prior faith tradition the veneration of the Theotokos was something that made complete sense. Christ was both fully divine and fully human. His humanity comes from the Theotokos...Mary is the Christ-bearer. It's always seemed odd, even as an agnostic, that she is relegated to a bit player in a nativity story. She objectively would have to be the most important human to have existed. Without the Theotokos, Jesus can't be fully human. If he's not fully human, he can't die and destroy death and be resurrected. If he didn't have a bodily resurrection.....then all of this is pointless and we should all go home.

@@TheB1nary 1). There is nothing wrong with asking Mary for Salvation. The Doctrine of The Communion of Saints within The Catholic Church and Orthodox Church (I am Catholic) comes with the understanding that asking any Saint for anything is always in an intercessory fashion. So when you hear a monk "asking Mary for Salvation" you should take it for granted that they are asking her to intercede to Christ for their Salvation (you also need to understand Orthodox' view point on Salvation:- "been saved. being saved. will be saved"). 2). The Doctrine of The Communion of Saints was a huge hurdle for me too. God just recently opened my eyes about it's truth two months ago. This is a true and Biblical Doctrine ("great cloud of Witnesses"). Yes, the saints do hear all prayers said to them. Keep in mind you do not need to understand every single intricate detail of the "how", "why" and "wherefores".....this is why I couldn't continue with Evangelicalism that comes with a we need to "figure everything out" type of thinking. True Christianity is very Mystical and a lot of things you simply have to leave on the table of Mystery. Further, as saints on this side of heaven, the Bible speaks about us partaking in God's Divinity (2 Peter 1:4). How much more the Saints on the other side? Think about it. 3). Everybody believed in praying to the Saints for the first 1500 years of Christianity. The Church Fathers who solidified the doctrines that make up the Christianity you practice today, all believed it.

The reason I am Orthodox is because my Church is the only one that offers the healing method to cure the illness of my soul. Our souls suffer from passions and sin that do not differ from addictions. The Orthodox Church is not a religion but a Hospital where Christ is the Surgeon General. His saints and priests are the physicians that he has authorized to diagnose our illnesses and coach us through life as spiritual guides to gain health and even become athletes of the spirit. I am seriously considering becoming an Orthodox Christian. I have been brought up as a Pentecostal Christian and it has caused me decades of confusion, erroneous thinking, depression and negative psychological problems. I also can't stand the total irreverence in many Evangelical church services. I love and adore the reverence in the Orthodox faith; the chants, the liturgy. It's so moving and beautiful. I agree with the historical link and continuity of the Orthodox church. With Protestantism there are 1000s of denominations, and so many individual 'prophetic revelations' which causes utter confusion! I have been so heavily involved in Pentecostalism for most of my life, it will come as an utter shock to so many of my close friends and family when/if they find out I am leaving, I'm not sure how to manage telling them. As I am getting older I am gaining more confidence in my decision making so I am definitely heading in the right direction. I am currently researching the early church and the early church fathers. So many Evangelicals know nothing of the early church and just disregard their own Christian history. It's as if for them Christianity started with Calvin and Luther.

I am a Greek Orthodox Christian and though my love for Christ and God are strong and unwavering I have found it extremely hard to connect with my church where I am here in the UK ... there is no one I can connect with there - it is predominantly elders and individuals who speak only Greek - this has often been something that I feel a loss from - growing up in Malawi I love my community - my Greek community is something very special to me but since moving to the UK - I can't find this sense of community any more and it hurts me because I no longer have a pull towards the church ... it's all Greek to me as they would say! This is why I find these videos so lovely - and relatable - it's in english, it's current and its fantastic - thank you very much for this really. Thank you.

I personally think, with my current knowledge within this subject, that the Orthodox Church would probably be more popular in the west if people actually knew more about it and it’s actual differences with other churches. In today’s society where this “flatness”, as you describe it, remains a key part of the secular lifestyle the Orthodox Church would probably gain more traction simply by its originality in lifestyle as well as its origins, which to my understanding seems to be one of the very first Christian one. Andrew who both have a better practical knowledge, than the average Greek living in Greece, of non-Orthodox people, what they believe and how to communicate to them the truths about what is unique in the One Real Church of Christ, the Orthodox Church. And through you, I hope and pray the infinite treasures of Our Lord Jesus Christ are being available to as many people as possible. Not for them to become like us or like Greek or whatever, but to be truly happy and fullfilled by their own Creator and get to live and taste what He created them for, to become one with Him, NOW and forever and ever. I loved everything about your analysis and reasons. It's hard to find such well put material available in such an accurate theologically way, in any non-Greek language. What to say other than, thank you, glory to Our Lord who... works unceasingly to attract and unite with Him and save as many people as possible. Your crystal clear way of presenting deep and so fundamental theological beliefs of our faith is helpful also for the average already Orthodox who takes for granted some things and doesn't really know or appreciate the absolute uniqueness of the revealed Truth, and not man made, that is present in the Orthodox Church. We'll, as for reason 1, at least in Greece, there is a split between bishops who still follow the julian (eastern, old) calendar and the official Greek church, which left the traditional calendar (which is still followed by the Slavic-Eastern churches) and follows since 1924 the gregorian (west, new) calendar. But, as far as the dogma is concerned, indeed there is unity in the orthodox church!

God bless you brother. I am Serbian Ortodox and we are following Julian calendar. Just one small correction of your statement. The other group in Greece is not following Gregorian calendar, they are following calendar made by famous Serbian Astronomer Milutin Milankovic (which is at the moment overlapping with Gregorian calendar, but the difference will apear with time, as it is much more accurate than Gregorian). As the argument for changing calendar from Julian to Gregorian was that the Gregorian calendar is more accurate. Once Milutin Milankovic came with the most precise calendar, Ortodox church came with suggestion to everyone change to this calendar. Of course, the argument for using Gregorian calendar was not valid anymore, but regardless, Pope and co. never intended to change, because as history shown many times, the facts for certain people are valid just until they satisfy their needs. Anyway, using two calendars are not good, because Holy Liturgies are not at the same time.

I totally agree with you, in the first ecumenical council it has been decided to keep that calendar and never to change it. Only another ecumenical council could do that. The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church was founded on Peter the rock (bishop of Rome) and NOT St Andrew (bishop of Constantinople). The Church of Rome is the True Church. I strongly recommend a Latin High Mass for you. Trust me, you will like it.

Not really orthodox, they are actually monophysites. They believe in one nature of Christ while He is fully God and fully Man. They split from the main church after the fourth (I think) ecumenical council condemning Monophysitism.

@@mojo7495 Even by talking about "the merits of Christ" you're buying into a scholastic schema created by Catholic scholars in the Middle Ages. We are saved in our union with Christ. He is the vine, we are the branches. We are baptized, and thus "put on Christ" as Paul wrote. We received His Body and Blood in the Eucharist. And yes, we continue to "run the race" by struggling to open our hearts in humility and love. The race is a process: we are called to run it throughout our lives.

When I was young, the school forms expected one of 3 answers as to religion: Catholic, Protestant or Jewish. Have come a long way as a society. People, churchmen and others, have borne the brunt of the battle. People need to gently or not assert that Orthodoxy is among them. Sounds harsher than intended. A little resistance to/speaking out about bad processes does make a difference. Pet peeve: "denominations" refer to Protestants. Orthodoxy is not denominated and if it were, who but Christ could do it? But He didn't do it. Again, harsher than intended. As Steve says at 8:00, Orthodoxy is a historically continuous lived experience. Continuous cannot be denominated. "I am an Orthodox Christian. I am not among the denominations." Presently, I suspect the bigger obstacle than challenges from other Christian traditions are challenges, passive or active, from secularism (and nihilism?). The approach needs to be to live the life so as to be an example. Also to educate at all levels. And to always welcome those who make inquiries. Not the best to talk about this. Finally, related to challenges, the Church should not be hesitant of putting tasks, goals on young people. Firstly, give them the tools - educate - then ask them to help in big ways and small ways. I believe there would be less falling away if more not less is expected of the youth. But real expectations, and real participation. Early education should be "how are we different than others?" Not in a proud way, but that the youth know what they are as an Orthodox, and the price paid by martyrs and others so that they can be that. The Church Militant has been experienced on the backs of real people in good times and bad times. Tell it like it is.

I just came across this video. I am a convert to Catholic. And while I am devout, there are beliefs I don't believe should be doctrine (purgatory, celibate priesthood - after all Peter was married) and I'm beginning to find more and more issues in the church (allowance of sexual perversion in the church, lack of belief in the Eucharist-even by clergy) and debating the need of a single head as compared to the original Bishops of areas.

Thank you for the video, I've twice in my life come VERY close embracing Orthodoxy. Knowledge of Orthodox theology and experience of Orthodox liturgy has enriched my Christian walk. In the end, I settled on an independent jurisdiction that combines elements of western catholicism, eastern Orthodoxy, and Anglicanism. There's definitely a parallel universe in which I converted.

I was lucky to be born an Orthodox Christian but unlucky because I didn't know how lucky I was until later in my life :) I rediscover orthodoxy during my 20s and I remain an Orthodox Christian because He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and Orthodox Christianity is the way of life in order to inherit Him!

I am a Catholic convert, I was Mormon as a teen, then left the Mormon faith, years later as an adult I became a Episcopalian, and then started attending a non denominational church * I was Searching for God* I then decided to try the Orthodox church and I liked what I seen, but in the end I went Catholic and I have been happy there ever since. Catholic and orthodox church's are very similar, and think both are *True* church's who are just not in agreement.

I really appreciate the Orthodox Church. I like it's ties to tradition and strong emphasis on community. I have been to a few Orthodox Churches as I have had friends who are Greek and some Russian. So, I'd go to the Greek Festival every year, as well as special services at both parishes. But, I'm a Catholic and that's what I know and feel most comfortable(I'm of a certain age). Plus the Orthodox Churches around me are only ethnic(I now live in Europe), and they are very protective of keeping their language and culture, I understand. But, I have lots of admiration for the Orthodox Church.

I always thought the Orthodox were catholic only in a deeper way. I converted to Catholicism in 1994 and was left feeling empty so I said to myself I can go to the Orthodox church because they're Catholics only deeper right? How very wrong I was and I can't imagine having not in a pot of the Orthodox Church from my teens or 20! I discovered it is the truth and the truth cherish that Jesus Built by his apostles.
