This scene warmed my heart because she was there to help him, and he helped her too, in their different needs at different ages and difficulties that are typical on their vital cycle. I love when movies focus on various generations and allow them to interact on a genuine level like this.

I love the message in this particular film where age is honored and appreciated with dignity respect beauty grace substance and passion ! The beauty of our elders passing on the awesomeness of who they are sharing the accomplishments of what they have done of Great value and inspiration in their lifetime. This film has so many wonderful messages but this particular scene is extremely one of the most important ones respecting our elders honoring what they bring to society and inspiring the younger generations that share the same values and passions to learn from the generations before them. Absolutely love this film with an incredible cast phenomenal writing an amazing locations!

How many of us are *not* acting like the leading lady in our own lives, always deferring to what other people want and need? This scene was a turning point for me. I saw it for the first time and in that moment I remembered how strong and focused I'd been as a single woman, and how all that had changed when I married. I wanted to be that leading lady again so I made changes. Some people in my life didn't like it. They were happier with me being soft and compliant but I wanted to live as my authentic self. I'm happy to report that many years later I'm doing just that. It took time and people fell away but it was worth the disruption because I just knew when I watched that scene for the first time that I'd have deathbed regrets if I didn't step out of the shadows and into my proper place in my life. I hope you can too.

1:16 the way Iris reacted to Arthur calling her beautiful was honestly pretty sweet she shook her head and was thinking "No i'm... i'm really not." And he is right on all 3 points. 1. Iris (and Kate Winslet herself) is very beautiful. 2. Jasper is a schmuck for not seeing how great Iris is. 3. Iris is the leading lady but she's acting like the best friend. We all could use someone like Arthur.

After researching "old school" Hollywood, I've come to the conclusion that Hollywood is only "golden" for the men who ran it & profited from it. If a man like Arthur survived Hollywood, he most likely kept his head down & ate his food🤨 or he had a very tough exterior in his hey day

Schmuck, or shmuck, is a pejorative term meaning one who is stupid or foolish, or an obnoxious, contemptible or detestable person. The word came into the English language from Yiddish (Yiddish: שמאָק, shmok), where it has similar pejorative meanings, but where its literal meaning is a vulgar term for a penis.

This is easier to understand if you think of the alternate role - the best friend. The best friend is in the background, a supporting character. The best friend's personal life never gets in the way of the plot. For instance, a protagonist may have to miss a best friend's wedding because of work, but the best friend will never miss the protagonist's wedding. If the best friend misses the wedding, it's a plot point for the protagonist's character growth. The best friend's story is written in such a way that it is just a foil for the protagonist. Iris was living like Jasper was the protagonist and she was the best friend.
@snowbird13813 жыл бұрын
You’re the main character. Play your life like you would a video game. In a game, you explore everything. You talk to the other people, you search and explore for treasures. If you did this in real life, you’d meet people and find new opportunities everywhere.

@@Smd3580 I don't get the whole context of "He's a schmuck ... he let you go. This is not a hard one to figure out."
