Yeah, I am not a hug fan of chrome so I definitely want to do something with those bumpers.

Anyone know where I can find a stainless or brushed tailgate appliqué. Or I may have to build one myself. Thinking of thin aluminum and cut it out to match then finish it how I want.

I think the 2015 to 2017 had the same style tailgates so it should work, I don't remember where I got mine. It was either Amazon or Ebay.

Man I have an 18 f150 and am going to put on a tailgate applique, but what i think I'm going to do is going to be a little bit more costly. Im going to get a second tailgate and drill out holes for it, and on my applique it has the removable letters so i'm going to put some bolts through the applique and using nuts and washers get it to where its tight, then modify the letters to where it fits over the bolts. once i have everything fitted, color match the new tailgate and seal the letters and the edges of the applique using sealant. thats the plan anyway and if it doesn't work out then I still have my original tailgate.

@@darktoylord Did you make sure that all wax ect.. is off the paint before you tried to put that on ? Just asking Wax remover . Thanks

My trick... I removed the ford logo in the middle of the tailgate and mounted bolts to the back of the appliqué (in the middle where they would poke through the space the ford oval logo used to be). Once I peeled off the double sided tape and applied the appliqué to the tailgate, I went in from behind and put a washer and nut on the bolts I installed to secure it to the tailgate. No issues so far!

Here's the issue with this tailgate applique: it is made of ABS plastic which means it will contract and expand with ambient temperature variations. You can use glue or tape or gorilla snot but the expansion and contraction of ABS that is mounted on a metal tailgate simply doesn't hold. It comes down to physics. ABS plastic expands and contracts a lot more than the metal it is mounted on. That's my physics lesson for the day. Don't frustrate yourself with this Chinese version of an American product.

Use plastic adhesion wipes before you apply double sided tape.

Tried that too. Nothing seemed to work for me unfortunately :(

@@darktoylord need to clean the surface with rubbing alcohol prior to installing. I have yet to have anything not stick in over 10 years. Hope it helps

Probably would stick if you sanded it first but I could I stand why you wouldn’t want to do that

Need to us 3M 94 primer along with 3M tape actually from the store. Not the knock off tape they send.

I was looking into one of this and in the installation instructions said that you need to remove the "ford" badge from the tailgate, that might have been what kept popping the applique out of place.

Yes. I removed mine. In hindsight there are these plastic tabs on the applique that I thought were used for support. Maybe these need to be snapped off.
