I love the "Podcasting is Social Pornography" concept, it's so true. People idolize these comedians and podcasters or youtubers or streamers or whatever and spend so much time listening to them talk that they become a parasocial number in people's "you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with" equation. Young adults now are social rookies spending 5 hours a day listening to a social adept whose job it is to be social, or at least to speak, and often without a more than a second of dead air. It's no wonder they feel paralyzed at the idea of merely trying to talk to a stranger with such a grand pretense in their minds. I appreciate the thoughts, all around. From them I would assume you are well read. I'm probably a couple years older than you are, and probably in a similar boat socially, and I really respect a person with a desire to acquire knowledge about being and heightened awareness and stuff. Especially so in this case though, since you were willing to put in the effort to articulate and share these concepts for all sorts of people to come across, on a platform full of people that would really benefit. I've had these sorts of ideas swirling in my head for many years now, mostly found through fringe art and its references or through sage words thought up by a brilliant and experienced mind, usually read to me by a youtuber. Tons more good words in my shelves of unread books, I'm sure. For years I have had every intention of becoming the Renaissance man I have dreamt of being, yet the depth of my understanding and ability are still lacking due the strength of my discipline. I am on the path, as always. Thank you for adding to the kindling, stranger. I would wager that you have the potential to do lots of cool things with your life, rain, and I hope you do. Take care.

This young man is on the right track. However he used Drake as some sort of analogy for masculinity. Drake is one of the least masculine people to ever exist and I don't know where he got that idea from. Most rappers are either massive playboys or pay for women. Very few are down to earth and genuinely want (just one) girl in their life. He knows what divine masculinity is so he definitely has been down some rabbit holes on that subject

@@maya-hx7xfDid you not understand what I wrote. No one on the fucking planet thinks Drake is some sort of paragon of anything. He makes earworms for mainstream radio stations. Literally no ACTUAL man is sitting here going "Drake or other rappers are manly as hell bro they get all the females and money" that's absurd to put so much weight on these dudes. If anything it is metal or punk band members that are somewhat closer to divine masculine.

Rain: just found your channel today. You made a great point about people following “social pornography”. I work as a cocktail waitress at an upscale restaurant that a lot of rich people/celebrities frequent. It’s like witnessing a strange live show of people with status (or wannabes) trying to socially perform for each other. Some of these ”baller”/womanizer types that I’ve met seem deeply lonely since many of their friends are mostly around for status and they struggle to maintain healthy relationships. It’s just a constant clout chase. I wish the young men looking up to these guys knew how empty and boring it could be. People lose opportunities for real connections when they’re playing out fantasies instead of being authentic.

@rapidol7

@lordspirit7655 yeah for sure! You’re right, I was just speaking to the general idea of people acting superficially because they idealize celebs (he mentions some young men looking up to celebs like Drake at some point in the video) and I just commented from my experience to affirm the obvious (ie. that the “baller” lifestyle can be shallow and meaningless, not worth looking up to etc)

Yeah that was something Ive thought about a lot but never really been able to express clearly in that way. I feel like people strive to mimic what they see in scripted or sort of curated social interactions, just idealized in some way, that are so popular in media, and it seems some people feel like anything outside of that is awkwardness. Maybe it's at least partly just because simply so much more media content exists now. Idk

A lot of people are afraid of rejection, so much that they are willing to excuse social awkward situations and people, because they would also like to have that mercy in case they could possibly need it too.

on the making friends part, i always make a point to be straightforward with people i like/find interesting. if they end up being unable to handle a person straightforward telling them "i think you're interesting and i'd like to get to know you better", then obviously they weren't actually worth knowing better. people who always have to beat around the bush or play games aren't worth the effort. empty scripted interactions make me hate people. being honest with people you're close to is extremely important too. in a relationship with someone, I want both of us to be able to call each other out on things, tell each other if the other has made us uncomfortable, and generally put in that effort to improve the relationship and push each other to improve as people as well. if no one close to you is ever telling you how they think you could do better, what's the point of the relationships? we shouldn't all be surrounded by people who are yes men to our faces and then talk behind our backs because they're too afraid to say it to us. the strongest relationships are built on that mutual trust that we can be honest with each other and still maintain our realtionship, improve it even. the bit at the end where you talk about a society where we are all working in unity - that sense of communal wholeness is something that is sorely lacking in a lot of modern societies, especially in the west. humans are not supposed to be so isolated in the singular sense, nor so connected in the worldwide sense. it creates a strange limbo where we are all alone but see everything happening everywhere at once, and so there's often little thought for the people who live around you. you may feel more connected to people across the earth that you saw on the news than you ever will to your neighbor. i think a strong bond of communal trust is an inherent desire for most humans - one that is very unfulfilled now. i don't think there's a clean one-all solution for this, and i don't think we can stop being connected to the world at large now - but trying to rebuild the sense of local community is something. what makes it even harder, i think, is how divided people are now. we find it hard to see the humanity in others. i'm certainly not exempt from feeling that way. i don't have a simple solution for that. but i do think that the different ways people think and act can generally be useful to a greater whole, when that whole encourages them to express themselves in a fruitful way. like how you were talking about the differences between men and women - although i don't believe in a monolith, i do believe that different people need different ways of encouragement to express their best qualities. if we nurture all of our strengths in a healthy and non restrictive way, hopefully we could all find purpose.
@15xmatt

I agree with you that we should be more authentic with our friends, but sometimes I struggle with that, saying or acting a certain way to try to “look cool” while deep down I know that I’m putting on a persona which isn’t who I am. That can be the reason why most friendships seem superficial and unauthentic. I think if we all talked and acted like our real selves, connections would be way more meaningful and real. Thank you for making me realize this
@lordspirit7655
@lordspirit7655 Ай бұрын
@15xmatt That isn't anything new or groundbreaking. People will constantly enter and exit your life. What they bring to the table is determined by their own kinship towards you. I have millionaires in my family and if I were homeless they would not even piss in my direction if I starved to death. Social media is a gift (and a curse) and I have met cooler people online than I have anywhere near my city. If you are genuinely offputting then I suggest you "stay in your lane" as this young man said, or figure out a way to find other people with similar interests as you. For example if you like guns, obviously military guys are your go-to. You like video games, go to tournaments or comic cons and meet so many people. It's all about what you are willing to put in and who you are willing to keep in contact with.

Sometimes isolation turns life into a perfect mathematical equation. This idealism makes the isolated person nervous in social moments. ... As for me, I am also at peace with being strange and funny in front of others. ... .Man, you reminded me of the amount of stupidity that my friends and I used to live during the night work hours. To this moment, we laugh at each other about how formal we were in our first meeting and acquaintance. ...A little stupidity and strangeness is required in this life.

Social pornography is a really good way of putting it. I’ve been trying to break the social norms myself. Just by bringing out real authentic positivity and genuine complements. I was just thinking the same thing, hyper overexposure to social situations that, as a generation, early 2000's gen z and all of alpha could be apart of a something without actually being apart of it. Other generations had stories to tell after their adventures, we have blog posts. Its weird to connect with people cause, no one knows this situation.

It's a bit of a reach. Listening to people discussing things isn't necessarily "pornography" or anything that absurd. that's like saying watching chefs cook is "foodporn" or taking therapists advice is "wisdom porn" like no dude. You will devote time to your hobbies, and if your hobby includes listening to someone speak, such as this young man here, then I wouldnt necessarily categorize it as something deeper than what it actually is
@BefourThree
@BefourThree Ай бұрын
@@lordspirit7655 Maybe not Pornography to say, as definitionally it's intent to be erotic. But he highlights the key aspect that it's imitation. A hobby of listening is just school or education; I'd equivocate that to not be a hobby. There is often underlying principle in which people seek out these materials. It's why I come back. and there are groups that do call sections of food "foodporn", it's a commonly used hashtag. For "Wisdom Porn", I've never heard it before, but I there are people who are erotic to intelligence. Yes you devote times to your hobbies, but would you consider media consumption to be a hobby or a median of life? We have Radios, Tv, Phones, Newspapers, Flyers, Magazines, all of which are forms of media consumption, media consumption inherently isn't a hobby because it's a mode to transfer or learn information, it would be a hobby if your specific reasoning for media consumption is to only consume media and for no other valid option.

Take it as a relief that in reality the only thing missing is that you need to think less often and just focus on being friendly to everyone not just the interesting people. And pray lol. And just know that I and some of the people you are talking to are hoping you succeed yk. Even if they don't have the energy to show it. Also one of the ultimate goals is to be super honest and have integrity meaning your the same person everywhere you go (it's *incredibly* refreshing trust me, just make sure your feeding into your loving side)
