I'm a Hungarian Tankie, please thank Vijay for accurately describing the "uprisings" in our capital in 1956, he is exactly right. My grandfather was there, side-by-side with out soviet friends putting down this horror that strung communists and jews from lamp posts. This should be told everywhere and often.

Thank you to you both. I'm in the UK, a socialist who supports Jeremy Corbyn. Tankie was very confusing when it first started to be thrown around on bot Twitter. It was, if anything, amusing - one of the many names I have been called in recent years simply for wanting a kinder world.

A kinder world is the wrong reason to become a socialist. A person becomes a socialist by discovering Capital is a higher form of labor organization but not the final form.

My grandfather told me about going frequently to the restaurant in Boston's Parker House hotel where Ho Chi Minh worked as a chef from 1911 to 1913. I don't know how he would have been aware of this except by actually meeting Ho and I'd like to imagine them having conversations.

He also worked in a San Francisco hotel. During Vietnam war, journalist found and interviewed a former co worker who remembered him.

The boycotts and blockades of Cuba and Venezuela, especially during the height of the pandemic is particularly galling if not sadistic. Will the US obsession with Cuba finally stop during this administration? The Cubans are a dignified people who continue to brave the onslaught of the depravity of US capitalism.

‘The US Military emits green house gasses equivalent to one hundred and forty nations…’ and what’s the military but a means of bullying at best, and slaughtering at worst-other people? so we need to eliminate this insanity, Abby Martin is doing her next project on this very topic.

And the US military could do very little without the fossil fuel industry. Thus, fossil fuel is subsidized incredibly - globally it's subsidized equivalent to $11M per minute! (in 2020 from an IMF analysis - reported in the London Guardian 2021)

33:20 It's interesting to learn the community orientation of Sikhism. Partially explains how Jagmeet Singh is the main leader of the Canadian Social Democratic movement (NDP). They're not perfect, but I vote for them.

When people on Twitter called me a Tankie, I thought they meant I was a product of a think tank like Brookings or AEI or CATO, which, considering my political outlook, baffled me.

I have heard that the U.S. was 1st of emissions per/capita. Although did that 1st place in emissions include the U.S. military emissions or not…!? Perhaps if the figure of the U.S. in 10th place excluded the U.S. military emissions…!?

Question about the Indian farmer issue, India has a massive portion of its population employed in the farming sector which seems to contribute strongly to the lack of productive forces there, in order to advance its economy and alleviate poverty is it not necessary for the farmers to quit farming and move to the cities to work in factories? Does this old policy of supporting farmers have an effect on that? Will it not lead to farmers staying farmers and continuing the lack of industrialization that is characteristic of India?

The Inflation Reduction Act just signed does exactly what Vijay said about government giving public funds to modernize private tech companies. The US Congress allocated public funds to shore up the banks with TARP in 2002. Congress appropriate public funds and the historic paradox of the American working class is they let it happen!
