On 30 November 1991, the first show of Dame Edna's Hollywood was broadcasted in the US. In this clip Bea Arthur is her guest, together with Cher. It was broadcasted again by Dutch VARA television on 23 May 1992 (English spoken, Dutch subtitles).

Saw Dame Edna once live in SF. My wife was called up on stage with Dame...she embarrassed my wife to no end and it was hilarious! Dame also made a live prank phone call to a husband of another audience participant. You had to be there. Never had such a great time!

My Mum was born the same year as Edna and in the same suburb. When I was a kid there were purple haired Edna's everywhere. And they were suburban 'nice' in the way he sends up. Scary. Watching Barry Humphries/Edna's videos from over the years he always stays loyal to those roots in the 1950s, doesnt matter where or when - he doesnt tailor, or very little - and people get it. Amazing since in his formative years pre jet travel and satellites Australia was a very long way away indeed.

Dame Edna is just one. Another famous character is Sir Les Patterson. Those of you commenting as though Dame Edna is a real person are idiots.
