I was in a six-person group that stayed at that same campground later that year, 2021. We had to do a last-minute trip replanning because our intended backpacking trip was to a forest that was on fire! With the boat-in-camp sites, it really does incredibly reduce the number of people vying for sites. So we were able to get this secluded campsite in mid-summer for 4 nights with only about a week's lead time. Kinda unheard of. One other group was there for a single night but we had the entire beach to ourselves for the rest of our trip. We had racoons storming our campsite late every evening but we had secure food storage so it wasn't too problematic. Had to bring our own wood (we had canoes) and could have fires down by the tide line. Also, we parked and put in our canoes/kayaks at Miller's Boat Launch. Nick's Cove has food and drink which we did one afternoon in the midst of our daily paddle around the bay. If you don't want to do a wag bag and are at a beach without a toilet, there's a public toilet at Miller Boat Launch. Just something to keep in mind. One VERY IMPORTANT ITEM TO REMEMBER that was not mentioned in the video - WATER. The bay is seawater so filters won't work.

Pretty amazing trip. I did not know you could do this at point Reyes. Having the beach all to yourself is incredibly awesome.

Yeah it was really surreal - even some of the more remote areas of the sierras we've been to, we've never been quite so alone!

I totally want to do this some day. Nick's Cove in Tomales Bay has delicious food and cute cabins on the bay. Looks like a great time.

You should definitely head out that way! I need to get to Nick's Cove still - I have heard nothing but good stuff about the food!

We just used NOAA tide chart for one night tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaatidepredictions.html?id=9415020&legacy=1 But, the beach we stayed at is one of the beaches that doesn't completely disappear at high tide, so we weren't worried about our tents/kayaks getting carried out by the tide :) Hope you get to do it! It's a lot of fun :)

Did you have to pay to hangout or camp on that beach?

Short answer: Yes to camp, but if you just go for the day it is free. Longer answer: Apparently starting in Jan 2022, they are raising the prices to $40 for the reservation. That is the price for up to 6 people, so you can split it. But still definitely more expensive than it used to be!

@@ElsbethWeeks Back down to $30 per night up to 6 people. Really can't recommend doing this trip enough! Such a great spot to crab as well.

I'm sure that gate was no indication that the ranch was private property. Lol
