You should be able to get that derailleur to move to the lowest gear position. First try adjusting the L screw. If that doesn't work see where that L screw bumps against. You may have to file the stop point on the L side of the derailleur to get the derailleur to move to that low gear position. Nice build. I would have thought that you went with 26" mountain bike wheels, but the 700c (29er) wheels are good. Mafac Racers have a lot of vintage love.

Originally, it was going to have 26" and was supposed to go to one of my friends but we ended up working out a deal for Me to keep it and I grab the 700cc wheels just out of curiosity but once I saw how the fit with the calipers I had to build it with them ... never thought of filling down the derailleur and will look more into that . Thanks for that idea

Im runniing a 8 speed chain on my 2x5 cruiser, it should have worked for you

I did try an 8 speed chain and Unfortunately it was too thin and was not grabbing the front teeth (bmx sprocket) the 2x set up uses a thinner sprockets
