Beach fishing at its best at Minehead Beach, Rays and Smoothounds

Richard and I set off toward Minehead, with the intentions of catching a Ray, target was either a Small eye or Spotted ray, as soon as we cast out, bang we were into fish........!
The Smoothounds were there.

Hi Chris, many thanks for the support and comments, yes there's a few around at the moment - Ive gone back to doing short sessions over the peak fishing time and it seems the results are coming back.

@Paul very under estimated venue this, there is a channel about 40/ 50yrs beyond the boulders, only uncovers once in a blue moon, if you can get the bait into this channel you can pick up pretty much anything, thanks for watching the channel

@Keith Wheeler this was between Gasworks and 1st hut at nr Minhead. Normally fish either side of low water. This place can produce some fantastic fishing.

Many thanks, Gasworks is the stretch of boulders / stones roughly from the Lifeboat station and down toward white mark. The spot we fished today was in the middle, there's a small sand bar just beyond the boulders and on the smaller tides, fish tend to sit just behind it...lucky for me today i was in the right place right time.

Frozen Crab, but I've been using Huge King prawn which have accounted for the recent rays.

@@andybowrahfishing9313 is that a high or low water venue also what size tide is best down there, never fished that far down before and want to try the hounds this year 👍

@@paulbaker2959 depending on your cast, it can be both, most people prefer to fish it over low water, its a great venue I prefer to fish it on a medium sized tide from low water upwards, There can quite often be a good run of hounds through there but its mainly a ray mark.

Many thanks Lynda, my good mate Rich hasnt been fishing for too long, I'm sure he's ok with me saying that, Plus in the past I had someone grab the leader when playing a good fish very close to the boulders and it snapped the line, fish lost, along with a trace and line, so I suppose I'm ultra cautious when fish get close in these days.
