There are many kinds of fishing set ups you can get for the beach. It all depends on what kind of fishing you want to do. Are you more of a bait fisherman, or a lure fisherman? Do you want to target BIG fish, or smaller fish or a little bit of both? These are all questions you need to ask yourself when searching for a new rod and reel combo.

Driving to the coast at 3am, driving down the beach here in Florida, setting up, chucking out mullet and shrimp, catching beasts, spending time with family, camping, night fishing, waking up at 9 am to fish again...IT’S AMAZING. I feel you man. My dad was more of a crabber back when I was a kid, so I have fond memories of catching blue crabs on the shores of Long Island. In adulthood I transitioned into fishing and it was exciting to learn something new, something my father hadn't taught me. I'm an amateur at surf fishing, but I love the process of learning and picking up tips and techniques to become better at it. I've caught the blues, this season I'm ready for them stripers. I love surf fishing. I would write a paragraph about it but here's a shortish summary. I love surf fishing because of the waking up super early in the morning when nobody else is around, walking out side carrying my fishing stuff, walking across the soft sand, getting to the shore and viewing the waves in the dark and sunrise, how the ocean goes on as far as I can see, setting up my fishing rods, casting as far as possible, and waiting for the unknown ocean fish to strike. And catching fish obviously. Great video guys!

They usually like coming down to the beach to take walks and stuff later on after sunrise, cause they hate getting up early, so I just walk down by myself and fish for a few hours till they come down, I'll see if we have any trips scheduled for DE or MD this year and I'll let you know

we're regularily camping at beaches in france, italy auf spain. My Setup was about 50€, and I'm very happy with it. I love to get up early going fishing while my wife and children still sleep in the trailer tent. And then we're grilling the fish on the campfire still lit from last night for breakfast...

I've been a bass fisherman in a kayak but just started surf fishing on last month in Panama City Beach. I love getting up at 5 am and being on the beach alone watching sun come up and seeing the fish and manta rays cone into the shallow water. enjoy your channel just started watching you last week. nice job!

Yes, this was helpful. I bought a Shakespeare Alpha rig for an intro to surf fishing on the Jersey shore. Had a blast trying to figure it out. Caught a few small fluke, a couple snappers, and a beautiful Stargazer. After 5 days of fishing and gentle fresh water rinses the reel got hard to crank. I took it apart and found extensive corrosion. No surprise, you get what you pay for and this served the purpose. Your idea of what to buy to get long time service is very welcome. It's pretty much retired, but my well cared for Shakespeare 2062 I bought when I was about 12 for $26 is still running smooth. Thanks! DWC

My son has moved to South Carolina to start a new career, so when I visit I wanted something for him and I to do. We are avid fisherman but have never fished salt water in our lives. Your video has helped me make right decisions on purchasing my equipment. I took your advice and bought the same Mojo Surf rod you have, along with a Diawa BG 4000 reel spooled with 30lb Power Pro. Best part of surf fishing on Mustang Island for me means that I'm at the coast, with my family, bluetooth speaker spittin fiyah, cold Dos Equis on ice, cheek full of sunflower seeds, and a bonfire blazing at night. Even if I don't catch anything (which is rare because fish bites are legit), I get to fly a kite with my son, kick around a soccer ball, toss up a football, and rinse the sand off of my feet before heading to a seafood restaurant for a margarita.

So I continue to perfect her craft she instilled upon me. I also have started taking my wife and son as he is now three and can handle my bass rod for little croakers and whiting. my wife and I love surf fishing as well. We setup early and stay for 4-5 hours every Sunday!!! Weather permitting. Sitting and waiting for that hit is super fun for us. She catches more than I do... Love when she has hooked a big shark and it is her against the shark. we go to Sanibel Island Florida so there is plenty of variety at times.

Bought a St. Croix Triumph Surf Rod (TSRS100M2), Power Pro 50lb moss green braid, and the Shimano Baitrunner 6000D (BTR6000D). Caught 4 17" spanish mackerel and 2 11" (let those 2 go, too small). Fantastic rod and reel. Thanks a ton for the gear recommendation.

For beach fishing I prefer to walk the beach casting a 7'6'' fast action, med heavy power rod with a 4000 series reel The key is to know where to cast. As waves come in you look for areas where the water is rushing out. You learn to id it pretty quickly. That's where the fish are. I don't have the patience to soak baits.

I live in Australia and absolutely love beach fishing especially in the warmer months, I take all my kids and set up for an epic fish. The varieties of fish we get off the beach here aren’t as wide as in the US but still enjoy catching a feed. I also use the Saragosa I prefer the 10000 as I can also use it for jigging for kingfish.

the best part of surf fishing is the ocean the waves the smell the wind the family you fish with in my case my daughter watching her grow and out fish me she is 10 and loves fishing it is always "one more fish please cant we stay a little longer" its the whales going by up the northern California coast its the dolphins you occasionally see its the sun as it sets out beyond the cloudy horizon its the memories of all things great! Yea I got the Saragossa as well but haven't had to return it yet. I never even thought about the warranty but yea, makes total sense. You know what I liked best about this video was you can tell you were going down a personal memory lane and I totally get that (it made me do the same). My dad past away when I was 24 and he was the one who got me into fishing too. I'm now 51 and I seriously have thought so often about those memories and remember thinking so many times if I had the choice to live out the rest of my years or just go fishing one more day with him, I'd take the day off and go fishing! I now have three kids of my own and remembering that I take them fishing when ever I can although only one of the three you might remember me telling you in an earlier post on another thread is really the fishing addict for now but I'm all about those memories and we go all the time making them. I know he appreciates the fishing now but won't realize what those memories meant till later maybe when he has kids one day as well. If I could give one suggestion to anyone reading this it would be to take a kid fishing whether it be yours, a friends or just be a big brother and sponsor a kids day out. The memories you might plant in that day could last a life time. By the way, anybody else notice the fish hit more when you're fishing with the kids than by yourself?.....LOL

Mojo surf rods are good rods. I like the Offshore Angler Ocean Master the best. They are cheaper than the Mojo but have at least the same or better components. Some of mine I have used for 18 years and they are still perfect. I’m a Penn and Daiwa reel guy. I use a lot of vintage surf fishing reels however. I collect and restore them as a hobby. I think I have over 50 now. I love my old Mitchell 488 and the old Mitchell 302. I use all my vintage reels. I particularly love my Penn 700 and 704 “Greenies” and my 704Z and 706Z reels. What I love the most about surf fishing is often the solitude and peace of being alone on the beach. The second thing I love is teaching me grandchildren how to surf fish and love it! I like videos like this a lot! Thanks!!!

I have been using my cat fish and carp rigs at the pier and they work ok but the salt really beats them up. Agreed with your choice of rod and reel. If you decide you don't like Surf Fishing. You will have no problem selling them.Both Shimano and St. Croix stand behind their products. All I use.
