IMO, Lazuli is the best song on the album too. The transition from the first part to the second part, especially when the guitar kicks in is mesmerizing. The emotions that is portraited in the second half can be felt vividly

Completely agree with you. For awhile, Myth was the obvious favorite for me. Bought this album on vinyl and have listened to it countless times, and Lazuli is the clear standout for me now. The entire album is perfection, especially when played from start to finish. But I agree with everything you said; the guitar, the vocals, the heavy build up at the end, it makes me tear up sometimes. Simply stunning

I discovered Beach House around twelve months ago during my early mornings due to my occupation. I particularly enjoyed it during my early morning drives to work. Last Summer while home on Leave at a bar I shared their Music to some of my Friends. They asked me if I was depressed and proceeded to buy me Beer. There is something about their music that captures my imagination. I really enjoy right after I wake up when then waking self is still connected to that dream self... This song for instance describes an entity that traps its victims with a false hope of escape from Reality...

Look at the lyrics: "Wonder eyes, motion high, and we don't dare slip on by. Make us suffer like no other." "Wonder eyes, motion high" means that we dream big, "and we don't dare slip on by" means that we never give up on our dreams. "Make us suffer like no other" means that, no matter what, our dreams make us suffer. We either stay in reality, unable to achieve our dreams, or we achieve our dreams and find that we can't deal with it.

No idea what this video is about. The scene where the starving boy finds food but almost immediately realizes he's in some kind of illusion is very striking... Reminds me of dreams I've had where something too good to be true happens and I realize it's a dream for that very reason. For some reason this video makes me feel sad, like the characters couldn't find joy in the real world but only just outside of it.

I think that we cannot have an objective vision of reality, we know it only as it appears to us. So maybe, all the things that we imagine, think or want are more realistic than reality itself, or at least we cannot rule out that they occurred, if not in another type of reality, in our mind. In conclusion I mean that already the fact of being able to conceive, imagine or desire something, makes it in a certain way real. Ps. Sorry for my English, I’m from italy and I speak it like Berlusconi

I've got theories as to the story here. Three people, each alone (in a sense), each tired, is visited by "beings from another dimension" and each experience it both differently, and yet similarly. The boy is more open to the experience than the other two, and thus experiences it for longer and more easily. The man in the bar is least accepting of what he sees, and his apathy to the world works against his chances of the true experience. The woman is most interesting, though. I believe that when she is touched by the beings, she actually prefers the experience of being in their dimension, and feels a sense of calm and invigoration when inside it. She may have been exactly what they were looking for. Someone to bring back to their dimension with them. Which they do at the end. Also, the portal to their dimension is in her fridge, so... Beach House also likes Ghost Busters? Or I've just watched this too many times. ... Which is certainly a possibility.
@gameblor10 жыл бұрын
Clips like this mean different things to different folks which might be the intention. I think the three are visited by ghosts and what they experience is a mixture of real things such as the exploding eggs and rubbish on the street leading them, to get thier attention, once the spirits of the loved ones they've lost get thier attention then the gift that they show those left behind is that there is something quite beautiful beyond death. I can relate because something like this happened to me once.
@possiblefossilrecords9 жыл бұрын
Adrian Adams I think all three people are going insane. The woman from being alone and watching TV (she experiences the same things as the women from the movie Ghostbusters which might be part of her delusion) The boy is homeless and starving and so he imagines food. The old man is a drunk and remembers music from when he was young and loses himself in the jukebox. At the end we see all of them still living their lives (the man is driving his truck, the boy is starving out by the garbage and the women is still alone and completely loses herself in her madness at the end by giving herself completely to it. Just my view.

People in art school often dislike symbolism. LSD or lucid dreams, or any change in your consciousness can help you appreciate symbolism for what it is : a representation of what happens in your brain, in your dreams. It can sometimes feel like it's only "imaginary" stuff, but most of the time symbolism tries to explain and precisely describe uncounscious thougts, feelings etc. It is done really well in this video. But I can understand most people won't appreciate it.
