Lyrics:
The roses on the lawn
Don’t know which side you’re on
In a daze, it will change
Wishes on a wheel
Wishes on a wheel
The voices in the hall
Will carry on their talking
Carry weight you can’t take
Wishes on a wheel
Is it even real
The contact that you make
The moment when a memory aches
Who can tell
You do it well
Wishes on a wheel
How’s it supposed to feel
One in your life
It happens once and rarely twice
One in your life
It happens once and rarely twice
The roses on the lawn
Won’t know which side you’re on
On that hill, forever still
Wishes on a wheel
How’s it supposed to feel
Wishes on a wheel…

I think it's a great video but I find it unsettling, like that there would be a team that chose these bizarre colors and put on this uncomfortable performance (and that the audience would find it eerily enticing). It all feels discomforting and evocative of some "other place". It's really great though.

To me, this music video is about the everyday person being the star over whatever it is that sports mean to people. Its showcasing the fact that the mass of the population is missing outbon what should truly be appreciated. Nothing "amazing" happens in this video. Yet it is epic.

I've always thought this could be some dream an older man had about what he wishes his high school life had been like. In reality, he wasn't the jock, he wasn't the popular guy, so he didn't know much about those things. If you'd told him that sports involved pink and yellow leotards and hoops connected to them, he'd believe you. Cheer leaders were just promiscuous individuals he could never be around. But here, in this ideal universe, he's the center of everyone's praise and joy. He's gaining what he always craved, which was appreciation; appreciation like the jocks received. I might be way off, but I dunno.

The impression I got of the song's lyrics was that each one of us represents what someone somewhere has wished to find, in a loving relationship that is. There's a randomness to finding the other, "wishes on a wheel." The video perfectly encapsulates that in that an arena of individuals are treated to a celebration of what they are, a wish someone made. It's lavish and dreamlike, daring and dangerous, nonsensical and gaudy. It's beautiful. I'm especially moved by the phrase, "One in your life, it happens once, rarely twice." Masterfully written song. The root, to the relative minor, to that painfully gorgeous minor 3rd. Perfect.

This song and video are stunningly beautiful. Ray Wise is perfect - and the way the whole thing just 'is' - its obvious a LOT of planning and thought went into this, but its not at all heavy-handed in its delivery. Eric Wareheim shows his brilliance in this (his cameo is great) - and of course the humor and surrealism really hits its target here. "Great Job"!!!

+dalmaximus I think it has a lot to do with sexuality, and fighting for affection. However what gets me is the energy and raw spirit of the young athletes, like nothing can stop them. The song itself is about the rarity of true love, I think. "Once in your life - it happens once, rarely twice" Maybe this is just about people peaking. In relationships, in high school, in life. The song is about a romantic peak but this is about every kind of person's plateau all at once, but not exactly despairing of it being the high point but rather celebrating it. I dunno, I could just be high.

Awesome Song and Video. While watching this I really feel like I'm in a Twin Peaks Episode and it gives me shivers. Not just because of Ray Wise and the guy who looks like Bob. The video looks kind of sureal and the slightly melancholic touch of this song fits perfect to the mood of Twink Peaks. I'm really looking forward to the sequel of the show. Ok, I stop talking about it now :x Great band!!!

Now i get it, Ray Wise is like the sports king, he represents the meaning of sports, so this is like a sports game but instead of competing against each other with all their sports skills they just want to impress sports king, then at the end he's like "no it's cool you guys are all equal" and he gets on his sports horse. Beautiful
