This song came out shortly after my son was born. I would sing it to him every night before bed since he was a newborn. It eventually evolved into playing the song before bed. And now, at 3 y/o he asks to watch this lyric animation before he sleeps. I hope that one day when I drag him to a Beach House show we get to hear this song once again :)

Eh, I'd say a lot of the stuff from their recent albums sounds a bit different from much of what was on their first two albums. The most important part though is that despite the changes, it still sounds like Beach House. Many bands can hop around different genres, but only the best can do so without compromising their overall identity. Another group that manages to evolve without losing their sound is Pond; their nine albums range from heavy psych-rock to synthpop, yet each one sounds unmistakably like them.

Watching this again after the full album has been released, this is not only one of the best songs in their catalog, but this lyric video is one of the best of this album. It flies under the radar at first because it's relatively simple, but the artist has a brilliant sense of motion and momentum. I love it when music videos speed up, slow down, and twist and turn at the exact right moments along with the song, and the artist absolutely NAILS IT here.

I have to say... This might be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard! Beach House has always been amazing, but with the new set of songs including this one, they are really channeling something here! You can feel it though your body man!? Music like this is what the world needs at this moment, it really sends you flying, over all of the pain and uncertainty in the world, if not for just a few minutes, but afterwards...it fills me with hope... And I really needed that today! I'm so grateful to be alive, to experience music like this..... Thank you Beach House ❤️

The colorful fluorescence in the iris aesthetic after traveling ~through~ all those complex layers was devastatingly beautiful. Gorgeous. Thank you so much. I'm literally living out of my car right now after my now ex boyfriend almost killed me this week. I had to be resuscitated and I lost my job because I was in the hospital. Even though it's hard and things seem dark Im actually really happy. And being someone who has been suicidal my entire life having a moment so close to death made everything else not seem that bad. And I just kind of appreciate life even more even though it looks rough. And I had a really good Thanksgiving with my family that kept my spirits up this week. And even though they've offered me places, I am going to chance moving in my car to a new city to both get away from my ex and also to be near my kids who have been living so far away for almost a year now. And I've missed them so much. And I forgive the person who almost killed me because at least it woke me up to what I actually wanted to do with my life which is be with them and be their mom and not really care about anything else except what I have to do to take care of myself. Music is basically my life blood. As a vice, it's all I care about. Even my other vices. Are all shaped around music. Didn't really care about weed till I heard Eleanor Rigby. I loved acid. But the moment I heard music on it. Gah. Pleasure. If I couldn't have music on acid I wouldn't want it. It wasn't the drug. It was the music. I'll never forget the first time I heard a beach house song on acid. I found them before I heard it on acid obviously. Because I meticulously dug through mountains of minutes of music, a very time consuming thing, to find the very best psychedelic treasures. Beach House is one. The playlist was called SirReal Space's Sexy Summertime Songs. I dosed higher than I thought and spent the first hour crying in the shower because I couldn't see anything and wish I hadn't dosed. But my trip partner got me out and was like "you spent two weeks making a playlist and you're not listening to it the timing is gonna be off" and I instantly snapped out of it and made it to the space we arranged with a sheet hanging loose over the speaker so we could see the shapes of the music better. The first was definitely black car. I want to say it was Space Song because I heard it first but I put it after Black Car. I was peaking for Black Car. It was one of the special moments you have with maybe a couple songs in your life. For a moment, for the minutes when I got to hear that song in that state, it was as close to heaven as I could ever get. It was the most beautiful, melancholic, perfect thing that had ever vibrated my being. A hauntingly majestic masterpiece. It's one of those songs I don't play all the time. Hardly ever actually. Only when I know no one is around to interrupt. When it's just me. Like it is right now. And I was crying and rolling over trying to go to sleep when I saw this and kinda went, ooh new beach house. And it reminded me again how grateful I am to still be here and still get to experience listening to beautiful music like this. And it brought me right back out of a dark moment I was having with myself. So I know that was a lot. But I just wanted to say. Thank you for making music. It has many times brought me great joy and nostalgia. I love to cry to Myth for the cathartic relief of doing it. Feels effing fantastic to cry to Myth. This is some of the finest artistic musical treasures ever bestowed to the world. I cherish it. Your work is appreciated. Deeply. Peace and love ✌️

I’m glad you made it through, your story really resonated with me. I’ve yet to experience Beach House on acid, but I’d honestly be fine if I never did. Their music is so deeply emotional and psychedelic on its own… it’s like you said, the music is the real drug. Although I did listen to Wishes on shrooms once, that was cool. Not as profound as I would’ve thought it to be. Drunk In LA is to me what Black Car is to you, minus the acid. That song marked a huge turning point in my life, a goodbye to a previous chapter and a hello to a new one. It was painful but the pain was beautiful, that’s what the song evokes in me. A beautiful pain and a lot of nostalgia. I can’t listen to it too often, or I’ll end up breaking down. I get completely overcome with pure emotion every time, it’s almost too much to handle. Almost. New Year kind of goes hand in hand with that song, gives me the same feelings. Those aren’t the only songs that have significance to me, however. Myth is my favorite song of all time, Bloom is my favorite album of all time. Wishes means a lot to me too, the shrooms incident was just happenstance. Take Care was the first song of theirs I ever heard, in a movie called Chemical hearts, which I watched around 2 years ago. Levitation got me through some pretty serious mental health issues. Days Of Candy was the first song of theirs that ever made me cry. 10 Mile Stereo blew my mind. Rough Song broke my heart, in the best possible way. So did Bluebird. I could go on and on and on and on, forever, about how incredible this bad is, and how much their songs mean to me in my life. It’s weird because I don’t really share this aspect of myself, not even to the people I’m Really close to. Not fully. My friends and my family know I like Beach House, but they have no idea the immense, overwhelming, undying love and adoration I have for this band. One of the most beautiful things I’ve learned in this life is to let yourself feel. Whatever it is; pain, sorrow envy, disgust, pettiness, shame, and also love, and joy, and laughter. All of it. Not trying to replace it those feelings with other superficial emotions like anger, nor trying to bury them deep down inside and try to forget them. To feel your feelings deeply, and to be able to understand them… It’s the responsible way to deal with reality, the only real way to make some kind of sense out of this world. Beach House has helped me more than any other band, to truly learn to feel. No other music has impacted me the way theirs has, not by a long shot. Im very grateful for their art and for who the are as people. Victoria and Alex are genuinely beautiful people. What a beautiful gift they are to the whole world ❤️
