This song means so much to me. I was on the verge of suicide about 3 years ago. I never once in my life ever tought I could even think about suicide. I always was a hardworking person looking for new things to learn. After multiple failures in my professionnal career, financial and investment mistakes that cost me greatly, a chronic porn addiction that came back after 5 years without watching any. The cycle of shame and loneliness was so overwhelming. I couldn't see the end of it. A close friend of mine knew I was in great pain and went out is way to shake me up. I started back to the basics. Workout, train martial arts, go to work but on a lighter schedule, spend time with my family and friends. I kept busy and my social life got better, my mental health also did. Then I met my girlfriend. An angel that gave me back a part of my soul. The joy to live and spend time with people. Everything was so blend for such a long time but she made things fun again. She gave me a purpose. I was living for myself only for so long... forgot how It's so important amd satisfying to share the reward of hardwork. 2 years together now and we're trying for our first baby. The first time I heard this song, I melted in tears in my girlfriends arm. Never felt this grateful in my life. Such a cathartic experience. Everytime I listen to it I tear up.

I love this band so much and OTM has a lot of their best material ever - Superstar in particular. This song really highlights all of their strengths in one, refined to perfection. The instrumental - it starts so simple yet effective, like many of their instrumentals are, but they take it to new heights across the song - with its mournful echoing vocals, gently throbbing beat and walls of cascading electronics, it builds and builds across the song into that incredible finish, and whilst its development is subtle the way the instrumental moves even as it's not developing so much gives the song an incredible sense of motion - it reminds me of Levitation in that regard. It's truly one of their best-written, most magical songs to date. Of course though, the star of the show here is Victoria's singing and writing. They've done heartbroken songs like this before but one thing that really makes it stand out is her delivery. If you consider something like Other People's vocals to be a wail of grief, as she bellows in her upper register about lost love, this by comparison is one of her most dejected and resigned vocal performances, with a real sense of finality to it. I can't think of a time her vocals have gone this low on a song and it really works on selling the song here. There's also the matter of her lyrics - Beach House have this incredible knack for writing lyrics that are poetic without being pretentious or overbearing, universal without feeling generic or empty, and I think that really shows here. This song to me was clearly written about a breakup (fitting given their past and present thematic content, of course) but it's written such that it can refer to basically any sort of cessation of a close interpersonal relationship. Not just a breakup, but two friends falling away from one another for good, a loved one passing, etc. - and despite being rather general like that, no matter how you read it, it hits so incredibly hard. This song has hit close to home for me in particular right now as I wrestle with my feelings over a friend, and I've cried to it a lot. I love this song. I love this album. I love Beach House. Thank you for the amazing music over the years as well as all the feelings, memories and experiences your music has soundtracked.

My good friend died in September and his parents never had a funeral or even an obituary for him because they were ashamed of his cause of death. I was texting him the night before he died. Probably minutes before he passed. I never got to see him one last time at a service and it made me so sad. I found this song literally a day after he passed and it brought out so many emotions. I still listen to it weekly just to feel closer to him. I love you Ian. Rest in peace buddy ❤️
