Great pattern and I finally got it after a couple goes...didn't notice the note about stitch count being 29 on the first row. I also wanted to point out that while it's not specifically mentioned with Wave 2, (since the CH 3 at the beginning of the row counts as the first TC) you skip the first stitch after the CH3. I was listening to the video instead of watching, so I didn't skip the first stitch. This, of course, left me with an extra stitch at the end of the row. You'll also want to remember that the CH3 counted as the first TC, so on your return SC row, ensure you remember the 29th SC in the top of that CH3. Such a beautiful pattern! Thank you!

I just finished this. It came out wonderful! I have to make the seagulls and the starfish and stitch them on. I intend to make a plain single crochet backing with the yarn I used for the sky, sew it together, drop a lining and zipper in it and use it for a zipper pouch to store my notions. Its the oerfect size for my project bag. Thank you so much for this absolutely lovely tutorial. PS- rather than rip it out on that foundation chain count oopsy, I simply decreased that last stitch on that first half double row to bring the stitch count from 30 to 29. It is totally unnoticeable and came out just fine! You are a great teacher and I enjoyed ths CAL project a lot! ❤

@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 5 ай бұрын
This sounds counterintuitive but I’d recommend going with thicker yarn AND using a smaller hook than recommended for the yarn. Using a smaller hook will make the stitches tighter but will also reduce the finished size so using a thicker yarn weight will help with the size shrinkage. But the quick answer is, use a smaller hook will help fill in the gaps. 1 to 2 mmm less depending on your tension

I love this stitch and I’m curious do you still use a 3.5 hook when your making it bigger??
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 8 ай бұрын
It depends on how big you’re wanting it and how you’re approaching it. If you are wanting it just slightly bigger , then a bigger hook and yarn in the way to go. If you are doing something like turning this into a wall hanging , pillow or a blanket then it would be a case of adding more stitches . So you’d start by making a longer row of multiples. But you could combine both and use thicker yarn and hook to help it grow with the bigger stitch count 👍🏻

This is a charming motif, and your instructions are very clear. I’d love to make a sofa throw (and/or a pillow cover), but have no idea how many 323 yd. skeins I would need. Could you share approximately how much yarn you used in making this small sample so I can figure it out?
@PlayHookywithMe

Sure! The square was 7X7 inches. The skeins I used have 322 yards and weigh 100 grams (stylecraft special dk) . In this small sample I used about 19 grams in total which is 57.96 yards. The color changes were pretty even so I would say I used about 20 yards of each color give or take. Here is how I calculated it : kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKTKaWiGYpeDe80

Yes, if you don’t want to start with the hdc and you want to create the wave immediately, then create your chain + 2 for the turning chain and then place your first stitch into the 2nd chain from the hook that I say to make in row 2. You might like keeping the hdc foundation row even if you’re making a blanket , though.

Hello😊 I would like to make a “sofa snuggler” for my daughter- or a blanket to cuddle up with on cold nights (yes, we get them in San Diego, CA!) - about 52” x 60”. I hope these questions aren’t untoward. I am an intermediate crochet -er. I’ve watched your video, especially the beginning of it several times. And unfortunately I am not good enough at the math to figure out what my starting chain should measure. As well, I was hoping you could tell me how much of each color of yarn to order from your tiny URL… your work is beautiful- and since I’m newly retired, after 35 years of teaching (no judgments on the math issue please 🙁) I have lots of time to work on my crochet and get better. Thanks so much for your video and perhaps even answers to my questions!
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 3 жыл бұрын
If you are going to be using the same yarn and hooks size (I think I saw that you are) then based off of my measurements (30 chains made a 7"x7" inch square) here is what I got for your sofa snuggler : I rounded up and rounded down to make the math easier. A 49"x 56" blanket would be 198 chains (this includes the 2 chains you need for turning) If you want to round up and do a 56" x 63 " blanket then you will start with 226 chains (this includes the 2 chains needed for turning) To get these measurements I just kept going up 7 inches (30 chains) until I reached how big you want your blanket to be. I don't know how much yarn you will need for this blanket. The skeins of stylecraft special dk have 323 yards each. Once you decide on your blanket size you can convert it into yards and get a rough idea of how much you need. Hope that helps.

Are you sure the „corrected advice“ you’re giving to people about there being 28 stitches in a row instead of 30 is really correct? According to your own graphs that pop up for wave 1 & 2, I count 29 stitches on each : 2 multiples of 14 and one extra stitch at the end in keeping with your 2&2 plan.

For me the advice is correct. I get 28 when I complete the row. Have you tried the pattern and gotten something else?

Please count the stitches in your wave graphs…there are really 29 across in each graph. Plus at timestamp 10:34 where you lay your first completed wave down flat, I can even count your single crochets across very clearly…there are really 29. I‘m not trying to give you a hard time, I just want to get it right before starting my project 😊

@spacebizkit1966 I understand and I appreciate it. The multiple is correct whether you end up with 28 or 29 stitches. Please work up a small sample with 3 waves for yourself to see what I mean. I’ll work a practice swatch too and add an addendum in the description ❤️

I'm starting my 4th color and it's not laying flat! Grr am I doing something wrong? Will I have to size it when I'm done? Thank you so much for your tutorials!❤

Could you please try not to put text over your work areas as it can be very difficult trying to work out what you are doing and following. It would really help us beginners. Thank you.

Are you meaning subtitles? That is controlled by you and can be shut off. If you are on a computer , click the gear on the bottom right of the video and choose “subtitles -off”. If you are on your phone tap on the video and you’ll see 3 dots at the top right corner. Choose “captions off”. Hope that helps 💕

No, its the ones you have put up there I white, wave 1, wave 2 etc. It would help if they were lower and OT covering your actions in the project. :)

@@CMP1307 hm - I’m not seeing where it is blocking your view of the active stitches being made. It's only up there for a few seconds. Sorry that you did not find this helpful. All the best
