As for crimp beads, I would recommend crimp tubes over crimp beads. These crimp tubes should work with the beading wire: Beadalon Silver Plated Crimp Tubes 1.3mm (75 Beads) - SKU: FCR-1215
@beadaholique11 жыл бұрын
I can not say for certain but a couple possibilities come to mind: there are various sizes of crimp beads/tubes, crimping pliers, and beading wire. Are you using the right size crimp with the right size wire with the right size pair of crimping pliers? Unfortunately there are also just some poorly manufactured crimp beads on the market which break easier then others, this is always a possibility depending upon where you purchased them.

When I first bought my jewelry supplies, I was advised to get a flat plier, round nose plier and wire cutter. Why did they not suggest a specialty crimp bead plier? I have been using a flat plier to flatten my crimp beads this entire time, which means they only do the first step that I saw you do. Is this bad? Will my jewelry fall apart without doing the step 2 that you showed with the crimp bead pliers? Thanks!

Most crimp beads will hold their shape just fine but they are not as strong as seed beads. Also, their holes are much larger then most seed beads in relation to their overall size, so there will be some difference in how they "sit" in your crochet/beading. I have personally used crimp beads in place of seed beads before without issue, but I would recommend that you do a test section first and make sure you are happy with the results.
@beadaholique12 жыл бұрын
I would suggest purchasing a pair of crimping pliers. I am not sure why they were not recommended to you but they are an essential tool. I can not say if your jewelry will fall apart or not based upon how you are flattening the crimp beads. It is possible that they are fine but crimping pliers will most likely give you a much stronger connection.
@beadaholique14 жыл бұрын
@d2008new For your purposes I'd say best to go with a 2x2 tube. The longer length of the bead provides more surface area to hold onto the wire when it's crimped. The 1x1 is fine for finer stringing wire or to more easily hide the crimp. Thanks~!
@beadaholique11 жыл бұрын
Hi! It's really hard to tell exactly what size beading wire and crimp beads you will need because it is not the type of bead that determines that but the hole size and how many you plan to place on a strand (the weight). A good all-purpose beading wire that works well for most applications is a 19 strand .014 or .015 wire. Here is one that I like: Beadalon Wire Standard Bright 19 Strand .015 Inch / 30Ft - SKU: XCR-69513

Without seeing your actual piece, it is a little hard to recommend a method. We have a number of videos showing various finishing techniques, I would suggest checking out our basic beading techniques section or, because you are using string, check out our bead weaving section. The first idea that comes to mind is to fast the threads to a closed jump ring. Hope this helps!

Crimping can be so frustrating. In our experience it's half practice and half finding the right tools so let me tell you what's worked for us. For crimps we recommend crimp tubes over crimp beads, and we like brass crimps. Plating is fine, but a brass core is a must. Here's a model we like: beadaholique.com/products/beadsmith-crimp-tubes-2x2mm-100-pieces-silver-plated Pliers are at least as important as crimp quality, and our favorite are these Xuron 4-in-1 crimp pliers. They have a V shape instead of the U shape you often see, over the years we've noticed that tends to make a better fit for the wire and doesn't crunch the tube so much: beadaholique.com/products/xuron-4-in-1-crimping-pliers-works-on-1-2-and-3mm-crimps

[Seed Beads being the altern.- though I'd prefer steel/bronze tube beads]. I'd be very disappointed if I ordered 1000 of these beads only to find them unusable for my project. I suppose what I'm trying to ask is ... If I use these - will they just end up bent & misshapen? [Do they hold shape if not clamped?]

qattah Beading wire is very soft and flexible. If your beads are pulled together snug enough (but not tight), then the wire really should not poke out. Why does my crimp not always hold? After I have worked so hard on a bracelet the end crimp may slowly release the wire.
@beadaholique11 жыл бұрын
There are several reasons why your crimp bead might not be holding. It could be that the crimping pliers are not the appropriate size for the crimp bead size you have, or that the crimp bead is not the right size for the beading wire. It could also be that the crimp bead is not being squeezed hard enough or that it is not aligned properly in the pliers. If you are using crimp beads, I would suggest trying crimp tubes instead. I personally find crimp tubes way easier to use.

Sorry we should have explained that a bit better in this older video. The same technique will work for both crimp tubes and crimp beads. Personally we prefer crimp tubes because we find them more reliable, and while crimp beads can look more like beads when they're finished it's often best to cover any kind of crimp with a crimp bead cover like this to fully blend it into your piece: beadaholique.com/products/crimp-bead-covers-clamshell-4mm-50-pieces-gold-plated
