Great looking car in very nice shape. I honestly don't see why people want to take these cars to 400-500 hp, 350 is more than enough imo and it'll still give you plenty of driving pleasure. It's not worth it all the work you'd have to endure if the motor blows later on. Good luck!

Agreed, sounds great and 300hp is more than enough considering the reliability issues you run into when pushing up the power

Just bought an 08 WRX sedan. 100% bone stock, original motor, original clutch, 153,000 miles. Very helpful video, wish me luck guys lmao
@Doriangrey983 жыл бұрын
Actually getting an 08 wrx sedan all stock by the end of the week 124k miles the previous owner had got a turbo that didn't work on it and he couldn't shell out any more money so he sold it to a used dealership up the road. Anything I should look out for besides compression?
@Pilikestortoises3 жыл бұрын
@@Doriangrey98 its stereotypical but check for overheating issues and head gasket leaks. Check the head gasket by looking in the coolant reservoirs/oil cap and dipstick to see if there is any frothy stuff on the inside. If its still overheating you can bet the previous person to change the coolant didnt bleed out all the air. As far as other things go, check for rust obviously, and make sure the transmission feels strong.
@Doriangrey983 жыл бұрын
@Lil Car Crash okay have you had any issues out of yours yet? Cause like yours everything's stock/OEM as far as I can tell. Not lowered, stock intake, exhaust system, turbo etc. And transmission feels pretty good when I test drove it. What would I need to get a feel for? And sorry for all the questions lol this is my first wrx.
@Pilikestortoises3 жыл бұрын
@@Doriangrey98 my first WRX as well. But I made sure to do more than enough research because Im always paranoid when buying used lol. The issue i am having right now is overheating. Tomorrow I am changing out the upper radiator hose, coolant flush, and thermostat. Hopefully that solves my problem. If you have been able to drive yours around without it overheating and the trans feels good then I dont think you have anything to worry about. And yes, check that compression. Did the dealer put a new turbo on?

Nice Ride I just bought a base 2019 Impreza used with low miles (commuter)... first things I did were: Custom stereo build Sound deadening Alarm system Window tint Paint correction and detailing Ceramic coating. Wheels and Tires. Headlight upgrade Better sounding muffler Splash guards I had a 2009 Sport Impreza that was getting old and high miles, so I sold that to a friend super cheap, and bought this...Love my Subarus...best cars I've ever owned.
@Holtenstein4 жыл бұрын
Nice car and a good color too. Really, you should have done a compression test before buying. If it has an issue after you've bought it... Well, that's gonna cost you. The cylinder you have marked as #1 is number 4.
@beakhan4 жыл бұрын
if it was a normal car I definitely would’ve done it before I bought it but it being a Subaru and having to take things apart I don’t think the old owner would’ve wanted me to do that😂 but thank you for correcting me i was confused on which way the numbers go haha
@Holtenstein4 жыл бұрын
@@beakhan Haha true, But you could ask a shop to do it. It's pretty common to have mechanics check out the car before you buy it. These STi's are holding their value really well. IMO, the biggest problem is rust. Depending on where you live it can be really bad. With the EJ257s, That's about $2500 JDM replacement engine + the timing belt kit. So roughly $3k in negotiation power. And that's if you swap the engine yourself.
@harrison00xXx Жыл бұрын
Boxer Diesel owner here. I personally found the "easiest" way to do stuff at the cylinder heads and engine in general by simply removing the tires and the wheel arch. It was also my way to go as i had to replace the bulbs of the front light. Subarus are some nasty, annoying things to work on. But also interesting somehow, they are "different" in so many ways beginning already with the whole engine+ drivetrain

I have a built 2011 STI I bought from NJ, with 67k miles, no rust, needs a trans service and I'll be changing every fluid in the car and doing a Dyno run to check the health of the motor after I do a compression test and everything. I do have a fully built 550+ whp motor waiting for heads to get done and the turbo, for it to be ready to go in if my current motor goes
@caldwell125904 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the clean STI. A fuel system, fmic, and a blouch DOM 2.5 xtr should put you in the 400-450 hp range. EWG is a must. These motors make great power for what they are. I really do dislike intros like this though. Thats what has given the EJ motors a bad rap. Its not the motors that are "unreliable", its the owners not taking care of them, cheap poorly designed aftermarket parts, and even worse tuning that kills an EJ. Its all about the tune, spend the money and get a good tune, not a one size fits all tuner flash. Cobb AP tuned on the dyno will turn it into a whole different car, with reliable power. Ring lands when the boost is brought in too hard. can be fixed with a good tune. After owning a GTR you should know, you have to pay to play. Hope the STI treats you well!!!! Thats one of my favorite bodies.
