Bean an Fhir Rua (Slow Airs) song with lyrics

This is an air that is used in many songs where the melody is slightly adapted. It is used in both "Cailín Bhig na Luachra" and "The Bonny Bunch of Roses" but is adapted slightly differently to the lyrics of each, as well as to regional singing styles. Regional singing styles also includes a linguistic angle as the Gaeltachts have their own singing traditional styles. This version of the melody has a distinctive Conemara sean nós approach. I was hugely attracted to Seosamh Mac an Iomaire's singing of this. It's straight singing but paradoxically is hugely ornamented, so that within a tight range, the notes bounce round dynamically. Listen to this for ornamentation. A real challenge for instrumentalists to incorporate lyrically into their playing.
